I have a good sense of awareness, so if I know my teammates are getting their shit pushed in somewhere, that means i'll probably only have to deal with 1-3 people where i'm at. Usually it works, and I get behind the enemy team for sick lightning grenade multikills.
Plus when you play enough pvp, you tend to know where all the action is.

Let's use Pantheon since fagtron in the other thread mentioned it earlier. Snipers tend to cover waterfall lane and right lane, but not bridge. Rush past bridge, toss a grenade at the wall behind them, clean 'em up. If I see like 4 people there, i'm not risking it unless i've got Fist of Havoc, which I can Shoulder Charge, then use the momentum to send myself flying when using FoH. SC also works for running across those sniper lanes, because it's hella more difficult hitting someone in SC animation then running/sliding.
It also helps having communication with your team, (If you're pushing up, then they shouldn't be too far behind.)
If you want to be retarded, you can push up by yourself, but don't be surprised if you get teamshot, then bagged. Learn the flow of the match, outflank when you can, otherwise force them into a 1v1 scenario. If you aren't shit, you'll make out of it with a sliver or more of health, from which you pull back and wait for your shields to go back up. Do this enough times, and suddenly your team won with you getting a mote of light while .19 at the bottom gets a Truth.

Tl;dr, don't be retarded, use common sense.

I stopped playing shortly after HoW came out and I'm looking to come back. What should I know?

Last I played Last Word and Thorn were the only used PvP weapons and Gjallarhorn was the only PvE weapon. Has this changed? What's meta now?

I heard shotguns lost shot package; did snipers lose final round? Are fusion rifles still garbage? Firefly + outlaw still the go-to for PvE non-bossing?

The CB, HLS, and GHFroll this week is godly. Counterbalance corrects the atrocious hakke leftward recoil, the gun has enough range that hand-laid stock is a huge stability buff with little drawback, and glass half full is just a straight DPS buff with no strings attached.

Landfall is devastating and I never pop super without transcendence for the insta heal, and even though it can be interrupted it's kept me alive through more close encounters than not. Anecdotal evidence is all I have but I can't recall ever having been shutdown popping super on my warlock if I wasn't already super weak and not able to proc the heal fast enough

Most people miss at least 2 hammers, and it's pretty easy to run away from a sunbreaker on a lot of maps. All you need to do is break line of sight and they can't catch you in most cases. A slight armor reduction wouldn't mean as much with 7 hammers still flying at you and cauterize, which if anything needs a slight delay before activation or a general slowdown. we also have long range high fire rate high impact shotguns. Party crasher and chaperone on headshots are good examples

Even amongst the variants you've mentioned the range really doesn't make much difference. Party crasher has enough range and impact which makes it stupid with it's rate of fire. Conspiracy theory has awful rate of fire but it's range and impact made it a one shot. There's not enough of a middle ground in my opinion.
