So, if
>I tested it a few times just in case the sun was secretly helping but it was completely pitch black dark and the solar panels had 100% red on them. I turned on my flashlight, and stared at my solar panels just in case the flashlight alone worked like the sun and that didn't work. I sat down, they powered on, and started charging my batteries. At ~200kW with 8 solar panels it's no way to power a station forever but it did charge my batteries through the night.
Should we build an array of spotlights pointed at solarpanels in a really brightroom in our ships to have an unending power source?

So this ugly piece of shit made orbit with 87% of the tank remaining. I only topped it off to 95% and wasted a bit because I was flying while tabbed out and went off course.

Besides the pieces it's composed of, it's carrying all the components for an assembler and refinery onboard. Current mass is 69,150 kg so it can probably take a fuck load more cargo up in one launch.

This is probably as cheap as you can possibly go for a large ship heavy lifter. I need to be some experimenting to see what a small ship is capable of getting up. I'm not even concerned with landing this thing at the moment. I just want to figure out the fastest possible route for pushing into space.

Someone on r/spaceengineers made a chart of gravity vs. altitude for the earth planet: https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceengineers/comments/3szwxa/atmosphere_and_gravity_data_for_earth_very_basic/

I got Wolfram Alpha to fit various types of curves to those numbers and got a decent looking inverse square fit:
g = -0.085859 + 376.826 / (x + 12.3596)^2
g is gravity in Gs (between 0 and 1); x is altitude in km

Then I put the new formula into my simulation program to get a new curve of required acceleration/initial velocity to escape the planet's gravity.

V = 0 -> A = 9.81
V = 100 -> A = 9.05
V = 250 -> A = 6.04
V = 350 -> A = 3.76
V = 500 -> A = 0.94
V = 572.79 -> A = 0 (escape velocity)

>payload on top of a fuel tank on top of a thruster
That's the classic rocket. Kind of makes me wish there was some excuse to make it multistage.
Maybe if you carried less fuel? A detachable first stage containing hydrogen tanks and thrusters, that you detach near the upper edge of the gravity bubble and continue on with ions.
Maybe you could use those wings from that mod to make a controlled landing without the thruster.
>>
>>122484092
Detaching the hydrogen stuff would shed a load of weight so atmospheric re-entry should be safer.
>>
>>122483307
Less than I expected. I guess the weak but infinite-range gravity we have counts for a lot.

Yeah, but you'll have to do it without the hydrogen stuff. And if you can safely land with the ion thrusters, you could have taken off with them.
What we need is atmospheric drag.

Anon with the rocket in question here.
At the moment I'm designing based on the assumption this will be the first lifter built on a planet start which means no platinum so no thruster components so no ion thrusters.

I want to try and get all the materials I need to boot strap mining, refining, and assembly in space in the cheapest, most efficiency, and fastest way possible.

The fact that this thing can land is useful. That means it's reusable. Otherwise I was considering it could be canabalized to build other things. I'd like to avoid staging since it looks like the with space engineers mechanics staging is incredibly wasteful.

>>122485429
Adding on:
The entire hydrogen thruster assembly (4x small, 1x large, 1x tank) only weighs 6501.6 kg or about 9.4% of the total mass of the rocket on liftoff. Ion thrusters are heavy as fuck in comparison. A large ship large thurster is 39400 kg. One thruster is more than the entire assembly! Need to get some numbers on atmos thrusters.

Young trees grow fast
Trees trap carbon in their trunks

Cutting down trees and planting new ones is GOOD for environment as long as there's always both old and young forest to create biological diversity.
>>
Blanets is hard. I've wrekt all three of my small craft (a rover, a scout ship and a miner) but on the upside my mate discovered a source of uranium nearby. Currently I'm contemplating building a heavy lifter and doing manual mining until I have the resources to launch a rocket into spess with a refinery/assembler in cargo.

Once I've got a mining operation in spess going I'll make a platform in orbit and airdrop cargo containers (with antennae) to the ground base.

So I finally got the prototype of my large lander/mothership working.

I was going to use a mix of all three thrusters type and have VTOL but that prototype pancaked so hard most of it disintegrated.

If you use atmosphere thrusters on a large ship, make sure that its an airship meant for on planet use only.
Otherwise that shit is dead weight.

Anyway, my main concern right now is I haven't finished the aesthetics, interior and other key systems, so I'm wondering how fucking heavy its going to get.

It's sitting at around 4.8 mil mass right now.

It's got 16 large hydrogen thrusters, 8 facing down and four facing forward and back.

And then 48 small direction hydrogen thrusters with 12 pointing on both side, and 12 also pointing downward as well as up.

It has right now 8 hydrogen tanks in total, I'm worried if it has enough fuel to last more then one reentry and escape because from what my friend told me filling up even a single tank is really god damn time consuming.

Me and a buddy are probably going to fork the design at this point into two sister ships, one that is a mobile fuel hauler/mothership and one that can carry a ton of landing HABS to throw a ground base together really fast.

Think several pods that we remote control to the ground and then assemble into a surface base.

Do you guys think with the added mass of finished platting, rooms, systems and the full cargo containers it cans till fly?

And will it it have enough fuel?

Rainforest is good.
However, it's true you can't just yell at the people in poor countries to stop cutting it down. Selling the wood and using the land for farming is necessary with human expansion.

So, you see, the hippies are looking at it the wrong way.
We need to design a machine designs for chopping humans down instead of trees to quell the human population.

I haven't yet worked with hydrogen in survival, how long does it take to fill up a single tank? (let alone 8)

Make a new game in creative with a single blaned.
Fill a cargo container with your ships weight in uranium.

No need to feel bad about testing stuff in creative, that's part of the whole reason it exists.

>>122496145
Two ways:
1. In Creative strap on a ton of oxygen generators, they'll produce free hydrogen and fill all your tanks. Remove them then swap to Survival.

2. In Survival turn on Space Master and strap on a bunch of oxygen generators, spawn in ice with F10, micromanage the ice piles because space master is a shitty creative experience, remove them, then take off.

>>
>>122497886
BYOND is great for small 2D multiplayer games. SS13 runs like complete and utter horseshit because it's decompiled code, that was never very good in the first place, and managed by a bunch of super ammeters.

I worked on cleaning up SS13 when it was decompiled. It was a fucking nightmare of just awful awful awful code. It still is. I know someone who contributes to try and learn how to code and the snippets he always asks me for help with are so bad I usually suggest tossing the entire piece and starting from scratch.

I haven't played it in years because I really dislike the direction it took when goonstation became the most popular branch. Except for Hobnob and a few others who played before it became popular on SA the goons are a bunch of fucking annoying dipshits.

beltloaders, you autistic retard. They have significantly higher fire rate. If you have enough ammo intakes, the reload will give you a much much higher DPS. If you're using 1m shells then using autoloaders is fucking stupid.

There's actually been a lot of progress when it comes to performance in the last year. Not only did the /tg/station guys put up newer and beefier servers, but there also was a breakthrough in BYOND coding when it comes to deletion/garbage collection.
Played a lot last week and the server held up just fine, as long as lord singuloth didn't eat the station.

If we don't truly need the planet, what possible significance could those mineral resources have?

>>122496564
The thing to remember about the mass distribution of the universe is that all the matter is planets, and asteroids are insignificant motes of dust next to them.
Well, actually all the matter is stars, and planets are insignificant motes of dust next to them, but we won't be able to mine stars for some time yet. And let's not go into dark matter.
Point is, if you can't find a natural resource on a planet, you sure as hell won't find it in deep space. At least not in high enough quantities to justify the cost of getting it. Space travel is seriously fucking expensive.

We're stuck on this planet for the foreseeable future. We'll obviously be needing materials and energy for that whole future, so leaving those trees alone indefinitely isn't much of an option, but we'll still need to learn to manage the biosphere or it's going to break. Right now, humans aren't managing the biosphere very well at all. Cutting down the rainforests isn't some kind of calculated move. They're getting cut down by whoever has the money to cut them, to make some more money. Lumber isn't necessarily more valuable than the intact rainforest could be, it's just easier to sell.

It's a question of value now versus value later.
99% of the time, investors bitch about not getting value now regardless of what waiting could provide. It's also fairly common for the time value of money to make cashing in now more profitable in the intermediate run.

And of course, few companies are concerned with the real long term, since the people there expect to be gone by then.

After playing with planets for a while, I think they're actually okay.
Finicky as hell, and definitely not worth the wait, but they still add something to the game. Those big gravitational fields are a new environment to build ships in, and that's important in a game like this. To have different kinds of engineering challenges.

Notice how in my original post I said that the extra loaders make it impractical. I did the math on this and did find out that although there is no benefit to one to four to one (one feeder, 4 clips, one autoloader) there is no immediate loss either, initially capable of the same rate as one to one to one.

HOWEVER, if we take into account ammo loss over sustained firing, once the clip is empty one to four to four outperforms one to one to one by having an extra third of the fire rate.

>>122504317
Yes. Infact, to prove it, I've just done the numbers. Here a 0.50 HE round is used, std reload 22 seconds, restock every 44.

using your one to one to one loader, fire rate per block is initially 0.015042 per block. This declines to 0.007 per block at 16 autoloaders.

Your clip will eventually run dry and your one single feeder per loader will be all thats left feeding ammo at a pathetic one shell per 44 seconds, giving a fire rate of 0.007524 per second per block. Given you're using a single clip this will be your fire rate very quickly.

The best 0.50 HE beltloader configuration is to have 3 feeders on 1 clip, meaning every restock cycle, the clip is completely reloaded.

Looking up the beltloader bonus I found an advanced cannon calculator where it was taken that the belt bonus is 0.2. Testing this it seems correct, if not maybe slightly faster.

for up to 123 beltloaders the time to empty is less than time to restock.

Interestingly, the restock time is a persistent, independant clock in FTD. So if firing is started immediately after a restock, the clock on the next restock is ALREADY TICKING WHILE FIRING. so the sustained fire rate is limited by the restock rate only. Up until a retarded amount of beltloaders, the sustained fire rate INCLUDING restock per block, is always 0.013544.

So by this test, if you are going to use a 1m configuration, always use beltloaders.

Source for the 0.20 factor used in beltloaders
www red dit com /r/FromTheDepths/comments/3sig0e/protip_request_beltfed_autoloaders/

which I tested some of my cannons using my own table and this factor, which gave the correct amount of time per loader to empty the clip from restock.

Here's my table for fiddling with which also includes the one to one to one, one to four to four and one to four to one comparisons.
http://www.mediafire.com/view/m2ll318j9pi60m5/ftd_why_autoloaders_suck.xls

which if it were not for configuration issues (which I previously stated) it could be argued that the one to four to one is slightly better than one to one to one, as the fire rate is initially equal to one to one to one, and the capacity is higher so although rate will decline once one clip empties, by comparison the one to one to one will be stuck with the rate of restock once the single clip is empty. However, as stated, making a decent configuration for a stack of crosses is pretty crappy. And as shown previously, a waste of time for 1m shells, use a beltloader.

>>122513827
From Wikipedia:
>Cyanobacteria, also known as Cyanophyta, is a phylum of bacteria that obtain their energy through photosynthesis. The name "cyanobacteria" comes from the color of the bacteria (Greek: kυανός (kyanós) = blue). They are often called blue-green algae (but some consider that name a misnomer, as cyanobacteria are prokaryotic and algae should be eukaryotic, although other definitions of algae encompass prokaryotic organisms)

Basically, when they were originally defined the naming species and known related species were blue, but they come in many colors and some don't even photosynthesize.

Warbros Server here, copying from least ded.

Current server status: Up, but occasionally shaky.

To join up with us when planets, there's some prep work to be done. First of all, you need to get into the group. To do so, message Ced23Ric on Steam. This guy: http://steamcommunity.com/id/ced23ric

Also, to save yourself some loadtime, preload our mods.
You can subscribe the to collection here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=375603526
There is a preload world (offline, creative) which you should start once to prod all mods to download: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=529237944
You can also use that for offline building, blueprinting and then building on the serbian later. I don't care if you want this server to be vanila, it won't be. It's a shitload of mods, but they have been weighted and tested and they work. Half of them are tweaks and visual shit (no beacon glare, for example) anyway.

You will be invited to a group called "Warbros Space Engineers". That group works as a whitelist. Only people in that group will be able to join the server. That is so I can control better who has access and we don't get unwashed pubbies.

Quick rule overview:
- Don't be a dick.
- No megalomanic superbuilds, use offine creative for that.
- No grid spam, every ship/thing you build is a calculated physics object that eats performance. So, no drone swarms, eh?
- PvP is opt-in between two (or more) consenting parties. No ifs, no butts.
- Only one drill per player. Take the Large Ship Earthbreaker, it's a good drill. Why? Drilling kills the game for everyone. Simu speed drops like a white city girl taking a moonshine shot down South.
- Talk to me if you have issues. Don't just shitpost on /egg/, talk to me. I'll see what I can do.

1/2

>>122530094
It's not because of circlejerking, but because of pubbies. I don't want pubshitters on my server.

Some general stuff:
- You are encouraged to make your own faction. Warbros will have one, auto-accepting peace treaties. You can apply to join us, but if you're not into building shit together and sperging out on TS3, this might not be for you. Buddy up with someone, make things happen.
- Warbros faction will not hold your hand. We'll hep if you are conveniently close and can spare the time/resources, though.
- The server will have some QoL addons, such as the helmet mod. Read the description and understand it. Protip: Turn of the glass reflection, set the shadow scale so there is no shadow and deactivate delayed movement.
- Another is Chat History. Type /ch to see the last 50 messages typed in /global. Might help with catching up.
- Also, Build Info, which gives you information about blocks you're placng. Turn it on/off with /buildinfo in /global chat.
- There's only one respawn ship, the Sparky. It has all you need to survive, some mats, beacon, solars, nuke reactor, refinery/assembler. Spawn in one of those and set out to meet the cold void. Keep in mind that Sparkies cannot land on planets because lol thrust.
- There will not be a Starter Zone for new players, unless you make and maintain one. We won't.
- Every time I log off, I will make a copy of the server save. The server is set to autosave every 30 minutes. Recovery of items might be tricky. Make blueprints of your shit - Ctrl+B.

You might want to grab the Warbros UI, too. See through menus and generally improved visibility and an increased G Menu size.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=375575227
I run it with the yellow font pack.

Wish you were here.

Last word: Offline raidfags, pls go. You are butts.

You are welcome to come and autism in isolation on our server.

>>122529248

In creative mode you can build a ship and then save the design as a blueprint. Then in survival you can build a projector that will let you easily build a ship with that same design.

If we are talking multiplayer there might be little need to adjust spawn rate of ores, just have the users set their own values, have trade/transaction be mediated by a trading block or as an option for ships/stations similar to how you assign ownership.

Have a separate tab for trade were you can assign what is received and what is sent press confirm, trade rejected if insufficient space is available or criteria not met (banned goods, banned player or faction etc...).

Trade block options:
>User confirmation yes/no (do you agree to this trade offer yes/no dialog box)
>Allow trade yes/no (to lock trade completely)
>List of allowed/banned goods
>List of allowed/banned users/factions

Additional options for cargo containers and what have you
>Allow trade yes/no

That wont stop people from smashing your shit and stealing it however.

That said, it would be fun playing with programmable blocks, timers, and other logic to automate and manage trading facilities and automatically update their values based on supply and demand. That's half the fun right there especially if you can make a mesh network and get them to communicate with one another.

Rough estimated translation by a slav:
>Neutral set to 0 now applied to speed of the joint instead of resetting it's position to 0° (NeutralAngle is used now to reset joints to a specified angle and NeutralLength is used to reset the pistons to the specified length.)
>Double NeutralAngle/NeutralLength now makes joint act as like a step motor, snapping to the specified angles/lengths.
Note: it doesn't turn the joint into a step motor but merely snaps to the grid-like angles/lengths.

Rails in spengies when?
Geothermal power plants when?
Heat mechanic when?
That would actually give a reason to bases and shit:
>crash/land on a planet
>scout for resources and potential spots for geothermal power plants
>drill 'em ores
>drill deep into the crust
>!!FUN!! with lava or just things getting HOT
>build the power plant
>get shitload of energy without using uranium
Now to get things and energy to the orbit...
>build rails
>build rails above them
>turn the whole thing into a goddamn railgun
>shoot things into the orbit
Alternatively:
>just build rails to the orbit and get stuff there with a spesstrain
Also, with heat mechanic we could get lasers, meltdowns, people getting boiled or frozen in their suits and all sorts of fun, along with the need to get rid of the excess heat from reactors. Which would make batteries necessary and force us to put an actual effort in designing power systems for ships and bases as opposed to current "just put more reactors on it and shut the fuck up".

>initially capable of the same rate as one to one to one
Did you fail to notice how 1:4:4 is only good for a single autoloader? Even then, it's the middle choice between two alternatives:
For a single autoloader, 1:2:3 will provide higher fire rate/block, whereas 1:5:5 will provide higher fire rate.

>using your one to one to one loader, fire rate per block is initially 0.015042 per block. This declines to 0.007 per block at 16 autoloaders.
The fire rate for one 1:1:1 loader would be 0.0075 rounds/(s*block), as it is limited by ammo input. This remains constant for <16 autoloaders.
You even calculated this, so why state something else?

>beltloaders are good for 500mm rounds
What about every other gauge, where you can't abuse the instant reload of clips?
For example, what about a max-length 18mm shell?

>>122511305
Your source explicitly states that regular autoloaders are superior for sustained fire.

I'm testing some rover idea and seeing a few glaring problems.

Firstly, is it in any way logical to land a rover from orbit? I had engines on my test rover incase I drove outside gravity, and the suspension wheels made it difficult to maneuver it around in zero gravity. I'm pretty certain that will clang any drop ships apart unless you take your decent painfully slow.

Secondly, what options do we have to prevent and fix flipped vehicles? I would rather not build my vehicle wide or use downward thrusters to keep it upside-up, and would rather not use rotors and pistons.

Finally, I'm not a hardware guy, so how does this look? I just want it to run all games on low settings, I took a build and tweaked it with a graphics card I already have. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sF8CTW
>>
>>122554707
Landing a rover is entirely possible. Just have enough thrust.
For dealing with vehicle flipover, I'd suggest a few extra gyros. They'll also help you make sharp turns.

>Ced, why is everything delayed?
This is some sort of curse that makes the rounds. It does not matter where you are, as even I get it, and I basically sit on the server. You will see chat, ingame actions, inventory moves, etc. at a terribly delayed reaction time.
Workaround: Relog, use TS3/Steam for chat in emergencies.

>Ced why does the server run like shit?
Because floating item limits do not apply, trash removal does not work and physics on planets/moons cause the server to throw a fit. Nothing I can do.
Work around: Use the Earthbreaker drill. Use blastmode to remove as much stone as possible. Use minemode to get only as much as you need. Build a grav gen/collector array.

>Ced my drill exploded/I died walking/my face is smeared across my ship's hull/my ship's hull is smeared across the asteroid's face.
If your simu speed is 1.0 and the server runs at0.33, you effectively move three times as fast. You jump at 9.82m/s2 on Earth, but with sim speed loss, it is closer to 30m/s2. And that kills you. And that kills your drill. And that kills your ship.
Work around: Don't touch the rock. Move like a ballerina on raw eggs.

>Ced my beloved ship is RIP.
Make a blueprint, Ctrl+B.

>Ced connectors rip my angus.
Set the Strength of the maglock fields to "Disabled".

>Ced, I ...
No, please, stop. I know it's shitty. I am trying. I deleted over 5000 floating objects yesterday alone.

>How long are days Ced?
8 hours. That's roughly 4h of night time.
>>
>>122570610
Don't take everyone bitching about the server as a personal slight that you need to fix, we just like bitching, also keencode.
>>
>>122570610
Disable drills, disable respawn ship timer, the input lag is unreal. I would much rather a few extra grids and overall slightly slower than having to wait 5 days for my block to have been placed.
>>
>>122570610
>Ced, why is the server down/crashing?
I don't know why it is crashing when it happens. Everytime the server crashes, it reboots, and when it reboots, it deletes the old logfile and starts a new one. I gotta do full maintenance to get a log I can read. I also do regular reboots, to compete with the gradual bogging down of the server. It will be unavailable at times. I am sorry about that, but the alternative is ...

>Ced, this world download takes 5000 years.
I know. This is the server being slow on the response. Every query sent towards the server comes onto a list, and that list is worked up. When the serbian cannot keep up, it throttles the simulation speed - and the response to download query speeds. These downloads are a mix of fixed data (game time, voxels, your mom, factions) and floating data (ships, blocks, speeds, locations of players). The latter is the hard part that is delayed to reduce load.

>Ced, what do you even do during maintenance?
First I wait for the next 15 minute autosave, then I download the entire game save (25MB atm) including asteroids, because I cannot make a manual save anymore. here I stop the server. I load that shebang into SEToolbox, remove dead spiders and floating objects (hiscore 2056), check every small and large ship for a) speed and b) dampeners, stop any moving ship and turn damps on as needed and save the file. Sometimes I also load the modlist into SE to make adjustments, such as adding the "nosensors" mod. Then I upload it and start the server again. After that I check the log as it loads for issues.

>>122571126
See "Ced, why is everything delayed?". This is not an issue of drills. You have been chosen to be the cursed one and you get 36k ping and fuck you. Everyone else can play fine. I am sorry, it makes the rounds, everyone gets it. Relog.

And fuck disabling the timer. That is probably the worst I could do. Gris are No.1 cause of performance issues. Stop grid spam. Remove your wrecks. Help me out here.

The firing rate per block of an autoloader can be greatly increased by only using the amount of feeders necessary, which is far less than used in previous image.
For example, a 5:20 autoloader:clip setup would only require 14 feeders (down from 20). Naturally, the amount of autoloaders cannot be greater than the amount of feeders.
Using these modified values, the picture is drastically changed, as 1:2 instead becomes the clear favorite.

The bright mind has probably figured out that for increasingly large cannons, you'll need an increasing ratio of clips per autoloader in order to effectively support the growing number of feeders.
While it is the case, 1:2 remains effective until it becomes 80:160:80, where 1:3 starts to become the preferred choice and stays so up to 1000 blocks.

and then like two weeks in
suddenly fucking monsters everywhere
And combat level is still minimum due to constant dying to mountain lions and just about everything unholy while I trek back to my camp all the time

Everyone always feared PvP raids, ogres, trolls. I feared fucking lions. They were fucking everywhere.

No, some posters in the source state why they think otherwise.

>did you fail to notice 1:4:4 is only good for a single autoloader?

No, I didn't. What you did is fail to read. Also it would be 1:4:1 in that case.

> >using your one to one to one loader, fire rate per block is initially 0.015042 per block. This declines to 0.007 per block at 16 autoloaders.
>The fire rate for one 1:1:1 loader would be 0.0075 rounds/(s*block), as it is limited by ammo input. This remains constant for <16 autoloaders.

changing my quote then stating I said something else? You really do have reading problems. The part you've quoted is stating values for two entirely different configurations, 1, or 16 autoloaders, as an example. However if you reread you might notice yes I did state two fire rates per block, one for when firing with a full clip, one for when the clip runs dry.

I haven't worked out other size rounds, as so far I've had no interest in doing it. 0.50's on beltloaders do massive DPS. My spreadsheet is uploaded though so go ahead and rejig the numbers if you want to try a different size shell.

So, I've discovered Factorio recently and I've been having a lot of fun.

I'm realizing that for the early game slow and steady is the way to go, only pollute when needed/the area is clear so as to keep the biters and shit away.

Just figured out how to use smart inserters/chests to my advantage pretty early on... I just need to get the guys I play with to not be goddamn retards when it comes to production. "I NEED TO MAKE A WALL OF TURRETS AND A GIANT SUPPLY CHAIN TO KEEP THEM ALL FED BULLETS" as the rest of the production line for science kits is bogged down with overflow and he does nothing about it. Mind you, I've been off on my own experimenting with pollution so his base is his...

there's only 1 ammo customizer in use, but 400 ammo outputs on it, and 800 shellpart boxes.

as long as you have enough shellparts, you can draw as many shells as you like from it.

the limiter for burst fire is only the number of loaders (auto or belt) and your cooldown time. tbf if you can practically guarantee the enemy is dead after the first burst then there's not going to be a lot of need to keep the reload high anyway.

Yeah, and some posters disagree with that.

>Also it would be 1:4:1 in that case.
Which is like 1:4:4, but a whole lot worse.
For one autoloader a 1:4:1 setup would achieve the sustained rate of fire will be that of a 1:1:1.
It's still a middle ground between several other options that can achieve higher rate of fire (cyclic or sustained) whether absolute or with regards to block count.

>changing my quote then stating I said something else?
The quote was not changed. It states that the fire rate of a 1:1:1 setup would be 0.015 per block, and this decreases to 0.07 for 16:16:16.
However, the sustained rate of fire per block is the same for both of those setups. Don't know why you even care about cyclic fire rate.
I hinted at your calculations specifically because I noticed that you've calculated both.

The changing value per autoloader is short term, beyond that it shouldn't be possible to exceed the restock rate. Ultimately, both autoloaders and beltloaders become dependant upon the restock rate, only beltloaders have a much better chance of dumping more shells out than are filling in per restock, when sufficient ammo inputs are available.

This has brought about an interesting realisation though. If autoloaders are used with 3 input feeders, it's not possible for the autoloader to fire faster than the shell restock. With that in mind, there would never be any point in the case of an AUTOLOADER, there is never a reason to exceed 3 feeders. (argueably, two can be used) as it can never fire more than twice the feed rate per autoloader.

Belt loaders on the other hand can load a shitload more shells in that time, so need more feeders to be effective.

the important thing to be aware of is that shell parts blocks have a finite fill rate. although it's possible to put a lot of feeders on per shell parts block, DONT. Ideally, have 2 shell parts blocks per feeder.

If you restock rate is shit, check that your shell parts blocks actually have parts in them. If they're far below 10 when your clips are trying to restock, then you need more shell parts blocks.

>Ultimately, both autoloaders and beltloaders become dependant upon the restock rate
<incomprehensible>

>it's not possible for the autoloader to fire faster than the shell restock
What a revelation. You have discovered an FtD equivalent to conservation of mass.
That "shells out" cannot exceed "shells in" is very fundamental.

>never a reason to exceed 3 feeders
If you have more than three autoloaders, you will also need more than three feeders.
If you're talking about feeder:autoloader ratio, there is still reason to exceed 3, provided you're using a 1:4 or 1:5 autoloader:clip ratio.

>Belt loaders on the other hand can load a shitload more shells in that time, so need more feeders to be effective
While adding more feeders of course increases feed rate, the down time increases slightly (approaching a limit) as you add more feeders.
This is is because you need to add more clips in order to fit the feeders, meaning the ammo capacity also increases.

The entire inventory system is a clusterfuck of awful design choices that has a shitload of wasted space, and that REALLY damages it.
Different parts have their functional keypresses set manually and aren't attached to any one control unit.

You can't just plot down a seat/pod and the proper propulsion and power and drive around.

Camera controls don't strike me as being particularly terrible. They're just standard wasd-type controls.

>>122614150
Having to switch between PoVs is kinda annoying.

The inventory system is kinda annoying as well, I feel like adding a simple search function would make life a lot easier.

I assume that you're talking about the "cryptic as fuck" vehicle controls. Boat controls take all of 20 seconds to comprehend, flying controls take maybe 5 minutes to understand and get used to.

Overall I see a lot of little things that are annoying, and a lot of them are easy to get around or get used to.

>>

>>
>>122616797
Terribly sorry. I've not bought the game yet, and can't for a few days as I'm moving and won't have things situated for a bit, otherwise I'd have the current experimental version.
>>
>>122615304
But you always have to "get used to" controls. You have to get used to how to move when going from NWN to kotor. Re-learning that wasd didn't move the camera when I was going back to Civ IV after playing Endless Legend took me an embarrassingly long time. Heck, even going from borderlands to borderlands 2 you have to get used to controls (going back to the original was horrible though. e reloads unless you're looking at something interactable, I kept reloading in the middle of a firefight when I meant to just pick up more ammo)

Unless FtD is the first video game you have ever played, you have old habits from other games that influence how you think the game should "intuitively" play. Because FtD isn't those other games, it seems "unintuitive." Yes, the UI could use some work, but do you really think that there's some platonic control scheme that would work instantly for everyone?

On a slightly more productive note, let's come up with some suggestions to give Nick to make the UX a little better. Nothing huge or game-changing, just little things that would make life easier.
For example:
>search bar in the block selection screen
>ability to make custom pages in the block selection screen (I would really like to make one page with all the stuff I use for building hulls arranged neatly, one page with the important bits of nucannons since I don't use half the blocks there, etc.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: This all may change. Game dev is difficult and Robocraft is a live development and we want to be able to react to things and what you want, so this is more of spelling out what is ‘in our head’.

We’ve split the work into manageable ‘phases’.

Phase 1 – plan is to launch this before Xmas if we can
- Unity 5, use of multiple CPU cores for better performance along with optimised rendering and optimised physics
- Painting Cubes, with paint, fill, mirror and ‘pick’ tools working
- The first set of extra shapes (loads more to come in later phases)
- All game modes unlocked to all users, with an additional ‘BA Leagues’ button to playing Leagues becomes optional

Phase 1 – ‘stretch goals’
- Free Garage slots for all (any who purchased them with GC or via a Robot will get GC back)
- CRF2.0 where users can buy (as opposed to rent) Robots with RP (unless they have Cosmetics on them)
- Pilot Seat no longer required on your Robots
- Robots match-made by RR and player skill (except in Leagues which will remain based on League and Star ranks)

Phase 2 – launching ASAP in new year, may be split into chunks, but all being worked on atm
- Weapon Select, put multiple weapons on your Robot
- CPU costs of functional cubes increased, for more strategic depth and difficult decision making on which functionals to put on
- Increased max CPU at all Player Levels. Mega’s also finally getting a CPU boost
- SMG reworked, with projectiles that must be ‘lead’, no more hitscan, no 6 gun limit, and real strategic and play style differences between smallest and largest SMG’s (think Uzi vs. Bren gun)
- Plasma reworked, round robin firing, small Plasma’s firing at quite a fast fire-rate, large ones slow fire-rate but very impactful, really different play styles coming from the different types
>>
>Relog to fix ghosting issues
>World download rate has dropped approximately a hundredfold
My instincts tell me that life shouldn't be so horrible
>>
>>122629210

File: robocraft pubbies.jpg (33KB, 1297x259px) Image search: [Google]
robocraft pubbies.jpg
33KB, 1297x259px
- Rail reworked, projectile that must be ‘lead’, no hitscan, projectiles causing fat capsule shaped ‘holes’ in Robots
- Tesla reworked, so only ‘active’ when selected via Weapon Select, so becomes the defacto FPS ‘melee’ style weapon
- Nano reworked, a ‘power bar’ added, Nano’s will discharge power and will have to wait to recharge when it’s empty, large Nano’s powerful heal-rate but very fast power discharge and slow recharge, small Nano’s vice versa
- Removal of 6 gun limit for all weapons, so you can get increased benefits the more you add, but with higher CPU costs you need to be careful with your choices
A new weapon, specific TBD
- Robot Ranking removed (no more Mk’s or Tier) and many many more functional parts to come (NB: all players match-made by CPU – since Small SMG and large SMG’s are both viable in battle, but support completely different play styles, both with pro’s and con’s) – this change allows us to begin to add more game modes and functional parts at a faster rate in later phases

Phase 3+
Our priority for future phases is to split into chunks so we can launch frequently, and to make sure we deliver things for new users and for existing users equally (as much as possible). The priority order of these is very much undefined at present and we’re still thinking about which ones to do first. Main priorities are as follows:

- Tutorials and New user progression system, to control the new user experience and ensure they have fun in the first hour
- Clans
- Big Social, Chat and Friends improvements
- Many more shapes, larger shapes to provide much more styling of Robots
- Decals
>>
- More weapons and functional parts
- TDM 2.0 (note, we’ve noted your concerns about this and we’re still discussing this one, we think we need an easy to understand, less punishing team PVP game mode for new users, but want to make sure it also has depth and strategy, so we’d love to hear your ideas)
- Non-Combat game modes, this are significant chunks of work each, but the changes above allow us to get cracking on with these next year, we need to decide which one to do first, which would you like first?
- Improve setting up and playing in Platoons
- Party Mode
- And more things for Megabots, we really want to improve the experience for those playing Megabots
- Upgrading physics to allow for realistic collisions between Robots and ‘pushing’ etc., which will in turn allow us to do more game modes that exploit this new functionality
- Localisation, so Robocraft can support all languages
- Server improvements, to increase the stability of the servers in general

It’s going to be an incredible ride between now and the end of phase 3. We really hope that many of you will come on the journey with us.

>>122630527
Essentially no new blocks have been added except two types of thrusters and the hydrogen tanks. Everything else is mods but you really lose nothing from using them anyway, there ARE no servers worth going on so crossplatform use of blueprints is a moot point. If you want online go with warbros. Just bear with the requirements, it's what it takes to keep a server running. Spengies is still shit at its core.

Mech Legs have a huge hitbox, actually.
If it weren't for their massive HP, they'd be insanely easy to shoot off.

They allow you to poptart, but jumping puts you on a predictable path, allowing anyone to easily hit you.

They force you to become tall as fuck, making most cover useless.

They are tied for slowest with treads.
They are nowhere near OP, m8.

Crawl along the side of a mountain and shoot over the peaks with the long tower of railguns. I had to put the pilot at the top so I could actually aim with the scopes over a mountain. It's really ugly and dies in one hit from anything but its "fun" to use.

This is where our base was at when we finished up.
Let me know if you want to pick it back up, I can try any host next time.

There are two power grids, solars+accumulators connecting to the science labs and the defences. The steam engine grid connects to all the industry and pollutants. Currently the two grids are disconnected and the steam engines are deactivated, so the entire place is producing a single tile of 15 pollution (due to the backup solar+battery that powers the boilers constantly). At full power the pollution reaches some 15 tiles away with 6000 pollution at the centre.

That game was too innovative for its time. Imagine an egg game with huge solar system maps where you can morph your stuff as you see fit, within your design presets. And then meeting others and combining your designs for something greater.

Why does spengies have a maximum speed? Removing it would open up possibilities for all kinds of neat shit, like orbits around planets and RKVs.
>>
>>122666351
Physics engine can't handle it. Flying too fast would let you clip through small objects. ("Bullet through paper" problem)

Because physics. When things go fast, collisions start getting weird.
Already at 200 m/s you'll see objects phasing through each other
>>
>>122666483
I find with a speed mod that allows up to 400m/s that I end up drifting like crazy and the inertia dampeners can barely keep up.

You can pitch in all you want - the problem is not the provider, the connection, or anything else. It is literally Keen's spaghetti code ripping itself apart.

The only thing you CAN do to help prevent this in the future, is giving me a detailed account of your actions in the last moment.

e.g.:
>Started to grind a 1x5 ramp block
>Crashed my new fighter into my main cargo hold

I would post a pic of my crash on warbros, but there wasn't much left. It was my first planetfall ever since I didn't mess with blanids until I got on the serb, thankfully I was only using a small shuttlecraft since I figured I'd probably wreck it.

It was actually going really well until I ran out of hydrogen about 3/4 of the way through the atmosphere.
>>
>>122675816
Last time I went splat on a planet my whole ship basically vanished.

Speaking of which, when will they turn into burning piles of crap in the atmosphere.
