No. I think all characters pose a unique and fun challenge. It makes playing against every character a unique experience. Sure some characters play more defensively or have ridiculous combos, but that's just a part of the game. If you can't beat a Sonic spamming spindash or a campy Rosalina, that's you own fault, get better at the game and find and to work around it.

By the way, do you know the correct way to DI? I understand if you are launched straight up, you want to DI left/right, and if you are launched horizontally or close to horizontally, you want to DI towards the stage. But what about those angles between them? Like, say between 30 - 80 degrees? I always just move the directional stage towards the stage, but I dunno now.

And yes, DI is incredibly important at all stages of the game, not just when you want to avoid dying to kill moves at higher %s.

Basically, you either want to move as far away as possible, or as far vertically as possible depending on what you are getting hit by and who is doing the hitting. Dont worry about the in between angles. Theres never a situation in which youll want to move only 3/4ths of the way left or right than you are able to do.

DI works in relation to the direction you are getting launched, so hypothetically if you get launched 90 degrees vertically by lets say Marth's upthrow, you can DI 90 degrees to the left or right, and anything in between. Obviously you dont want to get as close to 'perfect DI' as possible, so you want to aim for as far left or right as you can.

Now lets take for instance maybe Zelda's down smash, it practically sends you perfectly 90 degrees to the left or the right. Not really but lets pretend it does. You cant DI to the left or right, because youre already moving in that direction, you CAN DI up or down at that point, and ideally you want to aim as far up as possible. Any DI past the 90 degree mark in relation to your traejectory just loops back around. So no, you dont want to DI toward the stage if you are launched horizontally, you want to aim Upwards.

Basically, you are trying to avoid the blastzones, and the furthest distance from the blastzones is always diagonally, which is what you want to aim for. Blastzones are bozes, not circles, so the corners of the box are safer than the sides, if that makes any sense.

When we are talking about lower %s where you arent DIing to stay alive, but to avoid combos, again you either want to DI as far away as possible 90% of the time its this, or as far close as you can to avoid something else. In between those angles really doesnt matter, because you can just not DI at all and be fine.

Also let me give you a really specific character that DI has a drastic effect on: Palutena's down throw.

Palutena has a good down throw, if you choose to not DI or DI in the opposite direction (above her head) you can get upaired and die. But if you DI all the way away from her, she will fair you instead, and send you flying further away.

Theres no winning move here, youre going to get hit no matter what you do, so its important to go for the one that wont kill you as effectively, aka the furthest DI.But from there, you are going to get hit again, and its really important that dont keep DIing away because you could easily DI yourself to death if you are closer to the blast zones, so you have to change your DI the moment you get hit again to maximize your survival.

I meant the video gets confusing for me when they talk about DI for launch angles greater than 45 degrees. Like, in the video they have an example of Luigi's reverse upsmash and they say you want to DI down and to the right. I don't know if they are implying you should always DI down and toward the nearest blast zone corner if you are launched at a high angle less than 90 degrees.

Well its just, Luigi's upsmash sends you at a weird angle, and if you were to DI the opposite direction of what you were supposed to be doing, youd be aiming your trajectory towards vertically which means faster death. Youre trying to avoid the blast zones by aiming away from them. By DIing down and to the right, you are doing just that. It depends on the trajectory of the attack you just got hit by, its not always the same.

For both the two lines, you are trying to aim for the upper right corner of the blast zone, but for the blue you should hold more toward the bottom right .

For the red, you probably want to hold back toward the stage and up.

The thing is, there is both vectoring and DI in play in the mechanics of smash 4, but vectoring has been found out to only apply to horizontal knockback. So I honestly don't know if the DI directions you gave are correct. In particular, I'm not sure you ever want to DI up.
