Damn, I kinda expected the orc caves to be a cakewalk as a worshiper of Beogh, but I didn't expect it to so effortless. I mean, I probably killed only a handful of orcs and ogres in the entire caves, the rest were either converted or killed by my army of orcs.

How do you even play archers without any movement speed advantage? I roll a HEHu and it all goes fine until ogres and orc warriors. Each encounter is 50/50 and there's like 5 of them running around on each level. There's also an ice beast I didn't dare to wake up. If I descend lower, it will get even harder. The only decent weapon I found was a war axe but how do you even use it on an elf with -2 aptitude.

Use any other middling weapon. m&f or long blades recommended though polearms is fine too. Axes I guess if you're a HO.
Pick Oka or Trog. They help much, much, much more than Ely/
Get much, much , much more launcher skill. Walk a fine line between having one of the better one-handed weapons at like 1.0-0.8 delay. You poorly melee popcorn to conserve ammo. Shoot hard stuff. If it looks like it ain't gonna work, NOPE up the stairs and come down another or a hatch before it gets within 2 tiles of you.
You can throw stones and badpeddle to get enemies into explored space to reduce the amount of additional monsters getting aggro'd first from the monster shouts then noise of combat.

Post-lairish your launcher is sufficiently swole and your ammo gifts start to kick in. You'll fix up your defenses just in time then faceroll the game

Stronger weapons have lower proc chances. And all of them are reduced by monsters increasing ability to dodge you. Another factor is that you'll get badly fucked up when you miss or it doesn't proc. And enchanting your armor instead increases those chances

Curing, fog, scrolls of blink, regen spell, food etc. think of it as pan but every x turns ou have to rush to a fiend 3,4 tiles away and kill him. You dive to the end floor then clear out the rest of the level so you have "safe" placed to land when you tele if you're lucky.

Congrats. Just move on to a harder combo. Something like a SpEn if you want something completely different, or try out one of the easier melee dude combos that aren't minotaur/gargoyle of trog/okawaru. Unarmed VsFi is quite strong, but you lose a lot of the crutches you come to depend on as a MiBe so you still have some really neat considerations to keep in mind.

This is the same argument that DF players bring up every time I point out it's not very good. I have played DF in the past, I am capable of doing so. I played from 40d through to 0.34.11, before quitting around the release with bigger trees and movement/combat split, I forget which number it was. So I played DF on and off for about 3 years, and it really isn't very fun once you've learnt how to play it. It's fun while you're learning because your fortress is capable of failing, but once you understand the controls it's almost impossible to lose. It's why I play roguelikes these days instead, because they are actually challenging. Keep using your strawman though instead of a real argument.

I just roll in hasted and shatter/ disc of storms. Some of the floors, mainly the demonic, have a lot of fiends that are resistant to shatter and are nasty while they're out of range, so I use some combo of rod of clouds, scrolls of fog, my axe, and lamp of fire. The Makhleb healing is enough to keep pace with just about all other damage types, even 10+ smiters. Keeps up with everything but those damned tormentors. So, I'm working on singularity, then tornado, then firestorm, then glaciate to cover those last enemy types.

My big fear right now is getting paralyzed/berserked by killer klowns and moths of wrath. That'll kill me fast

If you start with a fighter, and crossover to casting late game, then yeah, because high STR low INT characters can wear heavy armour, kill with melee, and cast medium-power firestorm

if you start caster and try to cross over to melee late game, you'll never really be able to tab down dangerous monsters because you don't have the STR for heavy armour or to kill with a heavily strength-weighted weapon. Although a hasted staff of earth with high earth magic and evocations does a lot of damage, but nobody ever seems to go elemental staves
