Instead of the usual "what to do now", I have a better question - how the fuck am I not dead yet? This must the most shitty character I ever took to D:10. 4 AC, 16 EV, no offensive spells and one wand of flame. To make matters even more ridiculous, I just found a wand of heal wounds. It's also a Skald with 8 points blown into Charms.

On a slightly unrelated note, it made feel a bit bad about Harold.

It is with a leather armor. I haven't found any helmets etc. except for one +0 cloak. I didn't want a ring mail because it rises Shroud's failure rate a bit too high and now I have a +3 randart robe, so it looks a bit better.

In the most technical sense of the word, it increases his HD by one, makes him easier to hit, adds 20 mr, gives it a second attack for about 60% of the first and may or may not slightly increase his health depending on if it's recalculated against the new overall health or not.

No, and it's absolutely terrible. I've lost two pretty great psionics due to my beguiled creature charging a slumberling - then getting charged by it. You can forcewall it in even if it's next to you but it can do a bit over fifty damage per turn - so you need to be like level 20 to survive two rounds in melee with it, or have great physical defences. There's no fix as far as I'm aware, and it's incredibly frustrating. If you find yourself falling to it, stop using beguile.

The stuff in the vaults proper shouldn't be too bad. Silent watchers are monsters that get plopped down in cross vaults regardless of their native depth since they act as an obstacle instead of a monster.

All into launcher skill . hit popcorn with the best weapon you can find to conserve ammo. Notice that at x skill and depth y you can't kill z so you just NOPE. Around late lair it finally starts to level out and you're getting launcher and ammo gifts to beef up. Keep trucking on launcher with little defense and you'll hit 27. Then go win.

Pick up a dagger, whip or shortsword of venom or elec. When you reach lair you can do whatever you'd like, though I like some melee to reduce tedium. You don't always get one of those of course - a mundane weapon combined with spells will work, albeit less powerful.

Playing around with discord in pan in wizmode for a minute. I dunno if it's really all that viable at all. You can frenzy the lower tier demons but they can't do anything to anyone and at best are a momentary distraction. If you're lucky, you'll be able to discord some demonspawn into killing each other then some demons but at that point you really have to ask yourself what it costs to do what which is a lot, 27 spc, hexes, and all the int/wild magic mutation you can get cause no hex enhancers. All so that occasionally you can berserk some weak living monsters to do a little damage before dying or to simply irritate the field into killing it. While rare, you can discord the weaker pan lordsi nto fighting their fiends. It's pretty cool but I mean really, as a one-school "AoE" it's outclassed by tornado. You still need all the spellpower cause since the dev's are allergic to hexes but not obscenescreen-wide damage you need every % of success you can scrape cause Mr ++ monsters are like a 30% affect rate.

Holy pan, pretty much all the MR +++ which is most of them, you'll maybe only get 1 or 2 with a whole bar of mp.
In the abyss it's like 50-50. You can turn a lot of the popcorn against each other to escape but even agaisnt a common middling threat like a balrog, you can try a whole bar of mana and not turn it.

There's the potential for a little utility by using discord in conjunction with a mercenary from the mercenary card of living summons with middling or poor MR. You can say, monstrous menagerie a pack of harpies or two or one use of summon hydra then once they close to engage you can discord to haste+might them. But then they also will tear up each other. You can turn an enemy summoner's haunt summons neutral but once again, just a poor man's ghetto not-tornado. Whatever you use it for, you're better off with actual damage or better channeling. A note for use with mercenary, it will attack you while neutral but after frenzy wears off it returns to being allied

You'll train spell skills early while carrying around any shitty weapon, mostly as a way to plink people down. Later on you'll level a weapon skill to a decent degree.
Skills in DCSS take far more experience per level as they go up, without any more power per level, so usually later characters generalize into a large number of skills without depending on a single character archetype.

You could after you min delay and setup defenses? Crossbows can be an alright supplement instead of evo. I dunno how much I'd use that specific one though since it can confuse you. Be wary since you'll be sacrificng your defenses to soften monsters before they reach you though so adjust your mindset accordingly.

Watching elliptic win made me realize that the orb is hilariously easy to ninja now. Controlled blinking means that almost any teleport into a lung lets you pick up the orb in five aut.

For the benefit of people who might not know better, I'm going to point out some of the reasons why this is badvice.

1) The guaranteed shops in orc are all on the last floor, which is where Warlords and High Priests spawn, which is not somewhere you should be on a character that feels threatened by Lair.

2) The floor layout of Orc means that when you take stairs, there are often packs in immediate sight of the staircase and you have little space in which to act. Stairdancing to split the packs is viable, but for many low XL characters doing so means exposing yourself to unnecessary risk.

Yes, there are monsters in Lair that can be dangerous for a character an appropriately low XL character, but here's the important part: There's more space in Lair to kite, find stairs, and choose your fights.

I may be a badplayer, but I get to Orc/Lair often enough to have some experience with them and my viewpoint is that where you say that you can get nasty pack spawns right next to the stairs in Orc, I can say that there's not really any kiting you can do against spiny frogs, black mambas or wolf packs in Lair (or wolf spiders/redbacks if you happen to get this variant of Spider entrance). Teleporting in an unexplored Lair is a death gamble, so you can only haste/blink away IF you have the resources available. At least nothing can straight up catch up to you in Orc except rare wargs or maybe hasted orc wizards who are pretty harmless on their own anyway.

There is one point for going to Lair instead of Orc though - Orc, without breaking sorcerer/high priest vault(s), gives less experience for the equal amount of levels traversed.

Daikara kinda sucked and I died twice to some bullshit giant horde + rares combo. I had phase door instead of teleport, and that's what killed me I think. So here's my question.
I have both movement and heroism infusion, and I'm thinking of going absolute madman with using both of them, maybe wait until level 20 to get additional slot for the 2nd one instead of replacing something.
Bossfight was pretty bullshit too thanks to a rare hanging around, but again, teleport saved me, so I'm reluctant to get rid of it.
Should I do any quests/dungeons before Dreadfell?

If you're replacing TP, you really ought to start with movement. That way you have some method of escape.

Tomb can have some pretty sweet loot, and as you said it's not too tough. The only place you should really be scared of is the dark crypt. It's pretty much never worth the risk but I always do it anyway

I rather like the abyss. It punishes melee dudes for having shit MR and no stealth. A caster or stealthy character will have a much easier time avoiding things that can abyss depending on what spells they have available, and usually they're avoiding melee range so disto brands won't ever be an issue. Sometimes the abyss is even easier than a second lair branch or vaults if your character is sufficiently stealthy.

I always find it really interesting that people rate the endgame monsters in crawl as easy/absurdly strong. I never have a bad time with liches, but juggernauts seem to consistently give me a lot of trouble because its so hard to work around them for my characters. I tend to build a decent offense with a solid defense, but sometimes I just can't burst a juggernaut down before i get hit for 100. Maybe they aren't bad for gargoyles.
