Well, if you even go elemental , then you want to use those weapons on elemental-weak and raw-resistance enemies in the first place. So elemental phial wouldn't be bad in that case.
If by "elemental" SA you mean just a raw SA with some extra element on the side, then yeah, power phial would obviously be better. But it's can hardly be called an elemental SA then, since elemental damage is gonna be minuscule.

In any case, I've said it before: CB and IG shouldn't be nerfed. Rather, all of the other weapons ought to be raised to a similar level of functionality. Make them more fluid. More transforming options for SA, for example. More mobility for HBG. Cross is adding a whole bunch of these things, but it's too early to tell how they'll affect everything. Nerfing things is just going to make people upset. Give us MORE toys, don't take them away.

SA desperately needs some sort of synergy between its two modes, which are basically gimped GS and gimped LS tied together. And the GS mode is a clear winner, as expected.
Having the Axe mode turned into primary attack mode and the Sword mode turned into the "it's time to unleash the super attack" mode is exactly what this weapon needs.

I don't think many people here have harked about SnS being bad. Personally, I find it to be the best its ever been.
As for the best SnS's, I've been told (cause I've also asked this question);

And even then, Status ones are generally better in group hunts, high element and/or raw are good for solo.

I always do some research with the kiranico app on my phone before a SnS hunt, since it sometimes can be worth bringing a high-status weapon for solo i.e. para for Monoblos, sleep for Chameleos.

I wouldn't stay it isn't fun but it sure as fuck makes monster less fun since MH3G. They ruined Deviljho with terrible attacks, especially now with MH4U. G Rank also renders High Rank filler, it makes absolutely no sense to not just rush through High Rank when there is G Rank. I also appreciate Alatreon anyway because it's one of the few monsters that are fun and reasonable with hammer, even in a group with hammer never hitting teammates because it isn't a small fuck.

And the hardest body part breakever in the series considering the droprate and how long toe fight lasts (at least back then in Tri). Makes you really feel happy when you finally have it.

It's so fast, has so many attacks, even switches between elements and air and ground mode, has ballistas and punishing the few moments and hitting the head when it's flying with a fully charged Great Sword hit is just fucking satisfying.

Shagaru Magala is the only elder dragon that has better and more dynamic gameplay than Alatreon but he gets ruined by randmo mines.

This. Most EDs are fucking terrible. Either bigger than a house with scripted moves which you just have to memorize or retarded monsters that are just damage sponges. The worst ED is probably Chameleon. Literally no fun or depth, doesn't matter which weapon, just a dumb damage sponge with 1-2 attacks that can catch you off-guard if you're bored enough. Then there is Kirin which is just charging at you the whole time like an autist, way too small to fight it properply in a group. Or Teostra which is literally just all about attacking the hindlegs with a fast weapon for 3 seconds, then moving so it doesn't hit you, then attack hindlegs again for 3 seconds, then move so it doesn't hit you, then attack hindlegs for 3 seconds. Also this annoying 100 seconds bullshit attack. Kushala is basically Alatreon but worse and smaller. Fatalis is another damage sponge and doesn't do anything, again no fun with any weapon, no goal like aiming for his head which is impossible anyway or dodging attacks like a ninja. Just pure boredom.

Alatreon is at least a good ED.

The problem with hammer is more the game's verticality and how often monsters move in general. Apex can make it a bit harder, but on a lot of those monsters you generally don't want to be hitting the head anyway.

Unfortunately MH4U messed up Element and element boosters in general, but High-Element weapons can still be used. I've had more success against Chammy with a Dragon and Fire SnS than a raw or status one.

LS actually can only barely skate by in viability by abusing Fatalis weapons' high element. If you don't consider relics.
50% boost or not, LS's motion values are so bad that it doesn't really matter.
Against anything weak to fire, dragon or thunder, you can have a lot fo fun with Fatalis longswords. Outside of those, LS kinda suffers.

I can't remember if hitzones changed significantly to favor raw because I never really cared about them until this game. Still, if anything, element is even more effective for SnS and DBs at least, since they don't have that .7 multiplier anymore.

But still, the thing I originally had an issue with was that someone said the Worn/Rusted Dragon elemental SnSs were good when someone asked for a list of top tier SnSs.
