Grimoire of Gaia is alright, maybe a bit too many drops though. Enough health to make them challenging, but not an unfun amount. Tier 1 mob is 40hp, TC guardian is 50hp, tier 2 is 80hp

>>
>>121963212

the thing that bothered me the most about that mod back in 1.6.4 is how their mobs will sometimes get the drop on you and then you die without leaving a death message.

So no death messages led to weird complications like your grave not appearing or any of your items in said grave..50% chance of it being simply dropped on the ground and the other 50% is not dropping any items at all..

I haven't tried GoG for 1.7.x yet, but I do hope they fixed that

Blood magic is good if you don't mind early game tedium, plus it lets you enact your edgy persona and gives you a lot of abilities and giant runes to build around, if you are the sort who needs skeletons for your buildings, so to speak.
By the time you get to endgame blood magic, you will be a superhuman who can pull resources from space in the form of meteors and who can alter the world around you as you see fit, stopping mob spawns, causing mob spawns, weilding spells and so on. Plus, it has a number of addons (of varying quality). The mod doesn't look good, though.

AM is somethin you can shape your playthrough around if you don't encounter any bugs with it. you might need to tweak some of the xp/damage values, because it can be super grindy without doing that, and the early damage spells are right shit without it. The bosses are pretty cool, it has a lot of nice items/base building things, even without the spells. The mods look changes a lot so it might look good?

Blood Magic sounds cool, but I'll pass on AM then. It seems too... major, if that makes any sense. Like I don't need a FOURTH progression path after TC, BM and Botania. What are some good addons for it, then? Maybe to bridge the three aforementioned mods?
>>
>>121967845
when is meat actually going to fix what is causing the crashing instead of just restarting it
>>
>>121968681
There's a ritual that acts like the magnum torch, if I recall. There's also another that acts as though everything is dark, causing whatever mob could normally spawn there to spawn. If you want to be a cheeky kunt, hide it at someone's base. it's kind of huge though.

>>121968786
Last I played (a number of months ago, so I am not sure if the mods are better or have gone to shit, but they are likely still on 1.7 so I can't imagine they'd have changed all that much)

You have Sanguimancy (helps with automation, has multiplayer applications too that I don't know much about. Does other shit too, portals/tanks/whatnot), Blood Arsenal (not balancefocused, but has great items, like a necklace bauble turns kills into LP in the field. Adds sigils, tools, and storage blocks), and Evilcraft (not an addon per se, but a mod that ties in very nicely with blood magic. Has it's own worldgen, but offers some nice utilities, like moving enchants). Also, forbidden magic, which is well known.

>>121973690
Oh, right, yeah, because the vampires were classified as undead and couldn't be Infused.
>>
>>121973867
Unfortunatly, as it turns out, the vat only overwrites the AI to that of a tamed dogs, so if you tame a GoG mob, you get a fancy glorified overpowered dog that will follow you EVERYWHERE because they cannot be forced to sit and stay. You get a bodygaurd that will never rest, their attack and hp values will stay the same as they normally are, which is pretty nice though.

>anything that could or would do anything about forge being the only show left in town.

Forkage, Forgery, LiteLoader, BlazeLoader, M3L, FyPi...

>the big kids talk in peace.

The big kids have all generally agreed it's only worth it to cause a massive dramatic shitstorm and "overthrow Lex" if the benefits outweight the costs. You still haven't proven that they do.

>you keep trying to argue that modding dies without lex, that's such bullshit it makes me want to puke.

It won't die, it will just devolve into everyone doing their own slightly incompatible thing because nobody will be able to agree on who should be the new modding overlords. The only pick I'd give right now is CoFH, who probably have the most community support - and there is a fair amount of opposition to them already. APIs designed by committee don't work. I'd much rather have a shitty but stable Forge than come back to the days of JAR mods where every few mods you ran into one that wasn't compatible.

Do you really think that everyone except Lex is good-willed in the community? Do you really think that nobody will try to abuse the situation to take over the modding community? Look at the MCPE community - their mod loader COSTS MONEY. That is, you have to buy an in-app purchase to have more than 3 mods simultaneously. Why do you only assume it can get better?

As much as vanilla, and even moreso, minigame servers get shit on, they have some amazing structures. If you are a modfag with tons of power who sucks at aesthetics, you owe it to yourself to fuck around on a minigame server to see what kind of cool shit can be made.
>>
>>121974963
CoFH is too in bed with Curse, so I wouldn't want them in charge of an API. Something like half of their team works there.
>>
>>121975970
Who would you pick for the new overlords of Forge, then? Almost nobody else has enough community approval to be able to pull through with it. (And CoFH would make their own and win anyway)
>>
>>121976046
Without Lex I think the gap would just fill itself. There are a lot of contributors already.
>>
>>121976093
There are also a lot of issues with sizable debate, such as immibis's proposal to make Forge have a builtin receive-only power system or the ore dictionary behaviour debate between KingLemming and LexManos. I don't think that would magically make everyone agree on it, and the last thing we want to see is Forge devolve in flamewars.
>>
>>121975468
GENIUS.

Now I just have to actually kill those withers. I don't think I've ever actually killed the wither before.
>>
>>121976231
Still better then having no modding api for an entire version. Literally the most insane and worst possible scenario you can come up with is infinitely better then the nothing we have right now. I truly think you over estimate the imaginable and unknown.
>>
>>121977041
The most insane and worst possible? Okay. Five modding APIs. Your favourite mods are split among four of them.

Also, we have a modding API just fine - the reason it's not adopted is because 1.8 is junk, not Forge 1.8 is junk.
>>
>>121977113
You've got it the wrong way around though. 1.8 included a plethora of map maker improvements, graphical optimizations, its a significant step from 1.7. Forge on the otherhand was completely crippled and undocumented, rendering was outright impossible for most tasks.

I already have to use forge, liteloader and spigot for all of my mods anyways, another api wouldn't be that much of a deal.
>>
>>121978067
>Spigot

FastCraft gives 1.7.10 all the graphical optimizations. Also, the code internally is much worse, it's a bloody unfinished refactor - which is very visible if you look at, let's say, item handling.
>>
>>121978191
So? Either way that wouldn't excuse forge being broken and in the worst state it's ever been in. Which brings me back to my original point removing lex can only have a positive effect on the modding community, we're already at rock bottom, the only place left to go is up. Also has anyone tried talking to lex and asking him to loosen up or resign? We could kill two birds with one stone if lex sat back and let other people get involved in forge while he can still be in a director position to give it a direction.
>>
>>121978554
>Also has anyone tried talking to lex and asking him to loosen up or resign?

Yes. This is the easiest way to get a free ban.

> We could kill two birds with one stone if lex sat back and let other people get involved in forge while he can still be in a director position to give it a direction.

That's where he essentially is right now.

>we're already at rock bottom

Forge is at rock bottom, but things overall could be worse.

I think we can all agree that Minecraft is over.

I mean, it's just not fun anymore. It stopped being fun like a year ago. The only reason it was ever fun was exploring, finding new things. But there's nothing new in Minecraft anymore, because it's made by the most incompetent fucking people who bathe in money now and don't give two shits about their game.

I hope Microsoft does anything with it now and actually tries to make it not boring again. It was a good game until somewhere around 1.6 (which was like a year ago and they released TWO updates since then). I get that it's supposed to be the final version now but Minecraft can't be fun without new things in it. It's just the same boring shit over and over again. You won't play it longer than 2 hours in singleplayer, and in multi you'll just make a new world, fuck around and build stupid stuff, then leave it for a few moths and make a new world again when someone wants to play with you. I mean, does anyone still play this at all without major mods? Mods may be the only thing that can keep the game feel fresh again and not just the same shit over and over again for years.
>>

>>
>>122000621
>I think we can all agree that Minecraft is over.

No.

>But there's nothing new in Minecraft anymore, because it's made by the most incompetent fucking people who bathe in money now and don't give two shits about their game.

First of all, there's a lot of internal refactors going on. In 1.8, probably half the game's code changed. Also, they don't really have to care. Plugins, minigame designs, command block maps, and the entire modding community (on average, 30% of all Minecraft instances running are modded - and I believe it only counts Forge or LiteLoader)

>I hope Microsoft does anything with it now and actually tries to make it not boring again.

That could end pretty poorly. Minecraft should be a sandbox again, not a semi-RPG.

>which was like a year ago

Actually, it was almost 2.5 years ago. 1.7 was 2 years ago, 1.8 was a year ago, 1.9 will be very soon.

>It's just the same boring shit over and over again.

That's what it will be forever. The problem with Minecraft is that extending it in ANY direction will alienate someone.

>Mods may be the only thing that can keep the game feel fresh again and not just the same shit over and over again for years.

Isn't that what happens to many games? Is that a bad thing?
>>
>>122001179
What I meant to say is that Minecraft has nothing new and WAY less people play it, because without mods, minigames, maps etc. it's not fun anymore. Minecraft got so popular in beta because it was updated every few months and it always had something new to explore, it was mysterious in a way.

>(on average, 30% of all Minecraft instances running are modded - and I believe it only counts Forge or LiteLoader)
I would say "I'm not surprised" but actually I thought it would be way more.

>Minecraft should be a sandbox again, not a semi-RPG.
I wouldn't call it a semi-RPG. It's still a sandbox but with more weird mechanics.

>The problem with Minecraft is that extending it in ANY direction will alienate someone.
I meant to just add something new to the game, like new blocks, new mobs, anything. As you said, the last update was a year ago. If it doesn't flip the entire game upside-down then my theory about bathing in money is true.

>Is that a bad thing?
It just makes the game boring.

Sadly true. Remember all the angst over something as inconsequential as adding the weapon cooldown in 1.9?

There's literally no chance of any significant changes ever being made outside of mods.

It's a single player game so what does it matter if less people play? As far as new content is concerned, modders will make sure this game never dies. Look at Morrowind, it's older than the majority of people who play this game and people are still making new mods for it.
>>
>>122004913
they should make seperate games then, one survival rpg one sandbox
>>
>>122005646
Yeah, they could call them Minecraft: Survival Edition and Minecraft: Creative Edition.

I wonder why they never did anything like that.
>>
>>122004913
People wanted the sandbox, Notch realized it was easier to make the sandbox, and now he's a richer man for it.

I think the game would have sucked if they went for the RPG. We've seen what Mojang is capable of, or not capable of, and I don't see a quality RPG coming from that.

i don't believe mojangstas are capable of creating a decent voxel based survival rpg game. When the agreement made with notch wears off microsoft will fire their asses off and minecraft will be a bebe game with targeted audience of fetuses to 3 yr olds. Coded in C++, without any modding support, in-game shops for skins and decorative items. There will be some gargantuan faggotry never even heard of that even makers of candy crush will watch in awe.

Some gut feeling tells me ditch everything about minecraft and never turn back. I'd better find some other game that'd sate my autism.

Fucking notch, fucking mojang, fucking microsoft, fucking lexmanos, why are you spoiling something with so huge potential, this is all on you, you fucking bitchgadgets.

Let us reminisce about old minecraft

Anyone remember Runecraft? That shit was like my introduction to what MC could be like with additional content. I got so fucking enraptured in learning all the tricks about that shit. I even watched that one ctri guy do his hyper-autismal shit with it.

It's a shame most servers had to disable pegagus runes due to them slowing the server down, but man, that mod was great, and it did everything.

waaaay back in the day, there was a mod that added some sort of crystals that could give different buffs like health regeneration and such.. I am playing around with bloodmagic and would LOVE if there was some sort of way to easily generate blood/lp.

Or if anyone is playing around with bloodmagic, any tips?
>>
>>122020343
That mod was Reika's Geostrata. He might have moved it to ChromatiCraft in 1.7.10 versions, though.
>>
>>122020571
Hmm I guess I will have to do some internet-detective work. Unless of course someone here uses this chromanticraft and can answer if there is any healing crystals.

Otherwise: Thanks dude
>>
>>122020758
I did a quick google and found out that crystals are a pain in the ass to craft now. I'd recommend using Botania and disabling the config option that removes the Regeneration flower and using that.
>>
>>122020915
>regenerating flowers
oh that sounds pretty cool. I should check out botania.
I am a bit sad about the crystals though. They seem more magic-y than flowers. But I guess that's just a matter of opinion.
Again: Thank you for the help dude, hopefully it will help a lot.

Last question though: Can I use equivalent exchange to make bloodmagic runeblocks?
>>
>>122021279
Yeah, the GeoStrata crystals in 1.6 were great. Now, though, you have to deal with ChromatiCraft to get them and they are apparently 'deep in the progression' of that poorly-documented shit mod. Botania's regen flowers require much less effort and is way better documented if you get stuck (which is unlikely because Botania has a great in-game manual). Why do people hate Botania so much, anyway? I mean yeah, there's shitty memes in the flavor text and Vazkii is a huge faggot, but both of those things are easily ignorable. The mod itself is pretty solid.

>Can I use equivalent exchange to make bloodmagic runeblocks?
That I can't answer. But I know you can probably use EE to make whatever you NEED to make BM Rune Blocks.
>>
>>122021279
Also from botania is the tainted blood amulet, turns mana on your person into regen.

You can also use regen pots of course, or a regen beacon if you can swing that cost.
>>
>>122021658
BM rune blocks are literally just stone and obsidian and blood. You can use BM to make obsidian by using a ritual of the nether to generate lava (500 LP per source)

I think you can alechemy it into producing straight obsidian. not sure what the cost there is.
>>
>>122021782
well I never really played with beacons before. But then again I will need a few of them for my blood altar.

>>122021658
I will see if I can figure out botania. Bloodmagic will get set on hold until I have some cool mana setup.
>>
>>122022069
Beacons are pretty cool. they do have a vertical range, which I was sad to find, but they can give you infinite regen 1 at least. plus the other boosts are nice. For BM, when you make the altar, remember that the beacons don't HAVE to be powered or anything, but you might as well

Also, for your LP production purposes, are you using incense for extra LP? (assuming you are doing self sacrifice) if you stack up incense, you can get a lot more LP per stab, and do huge stabs that are a lot less accident prone

(if you are, I will give you the hint that incense works per stab, not so much time based. I thought you had a time limit, but the later incenses you can make last a very very large amount of pokes, it's worth looking into)
>>
>>122022351
I have just started on blood magic so I have like.. 1 altar and two runes of speed.
My LP production is me standing near the "cup" and bleeding out

>>122022069
Here's a pretty easy mana gen setup I came up with using nothing but Botania and vanilla stuff. You might need to learn the basics of the mod to make sense of it but I'll explain it anyway:

>the hourglass in the middle is a Botania redstone timer; you load sand into it to set how long between each pulse
>load 9 red sand into it to set the timer at 90 seconds (one coal's burn time + cooldown time)
>repeaters power the block in front of them
>the redstone torches are inverted, briefly unlocking the hopper
>hopper feeds one coal into the Open Crate which drops it straight down onto the Endoflame

Endoflames are flowers that generate mana from furnace fuel. This is as close to automated as I could figure it; all you need to do is set the timer once and keep the hoppers loaded with coal and you'll be pumping out mana in no time.

There are more endgamey mana farms which produce mana way faster of course, but this one shouldn't take you too long to figure out and is pretty cheap to build. Hope you can make sense of it.
>>
>>122022706
Def look into making an incense thing, you can start with just the cup and some cheap wood ash (possibly the next tier up too, incense is kind of cheap)

You'll at least get some bonus LP from that. I think the incense you can use is tied to your altar tier, though. So you can't use the purple incense with a tier 0 altar.

Also, don't be afraid to make one of those blood letter's packs (slowly drains up to 1 full unupgraded alter of blood from you, you can right click it into the altar to empty it) as well.
>>
>>122022997
Also I should probably clarify that the red sand specifically is important; different types of sand load different chunks of time into it. Regular sand is one second a piece, Red Sand is 10 seconds each, and Soul Sand is 100 seconds.
>>
>never played botania
>watches Sjins "Rule the world" show
Holy crap, botania looks OP as fuck with all of those crit enchants you can put on the helmet
>>
>>122023512
Almost any mod is going to look OP compared to, say, vanilla.

But ask yourself, how often do you find yourself in an environment where fighting is holding you back? In a PVP or environment where mobs are for some reason very hard, yes, it could be OP, but in a general modded MC scene, 1 shotting mobs isn't a problem so much, since most mods are balanced around production as opposed to combat

it is hypocrital of the mod dev to make powerful weapons then put a cap on how much damage the mods own boss can take, though.

My main issue was noise, since this setup is right next to my base. Open Crates are completely silent, but have no internal buffer, thus the need for hoppers.

I actually still play vanilla with no mods. I have an never-finished city that I've been working on for a year now and am thinking about starting another one.

That being said, I agree with you to a point. I reiterate this in almost every discussion I have about the competency of this game, and the simple fact is that vanilla is unbelievably underdeveloped. Even with 1.9 coming out, this update still feels like stuff that should've been added to the game a long while back. (Off hand slot, shields, slightly better combat.) The only thing in this update that is genuinely cool is the elytra.

For a game that has the extremely nifty advantage of being able to update on the fly and around the clock, everything Mojang produces is underwhelming. They take over a year to produce stuff casual modders can do in 2 months during unpaid free time, and the entire mess is still absolutely glitch ridden. You can, despite 9 major updates, still max out your armor and beat the game in 4 hours if you know what you're doing. I know people scream USE MODS, but that's still not an excuse to have such a shoddy vanilla game.
>>
>>122043982
Have you ever used the elytra?

It's not very cool. And by the time you get it you're probably going to be bored. And good luck finding one on a server with a lot of people.
>>
>>122044163
OpenBlocks/Mods has a Glider that does, functionally, the same thing as the Elytra.

So Mojang STILL hasn't managed to make something new that isn't in a mod already or otherwise improve on it.
>>
>>122044163

See, you bring up a good point. I was just fucking around with one in creative, and forgot about the effort it takes to find one that breaks after 5 minutes of use.
>>
>>122044338
Nah, the Elytra is actual fairly realistic gliding, the Openblocks glider just moves you forward and slows your decent.
>>
>>122044338
Not the one you're answering to.

To be fair with Mojang, mods explored pretty much any direction possible; any addition they do will at least resemble something from at least one popular mod.

That said. I agree a lot with >>122044163 and >>122043982, Minecraft _as a game_ is extremely shallow and underdeveloped. For most games, modding is about customizing your gaming experience; for Minecraft, it's about giving a gaming experience outside 20 hours or so of play.

Honestly the game really needs an entire tier above this diamond armor cap that we've limited ourselves too. Off the top of my head for adding some more depth to the game and making single player (and thus multiplayer) playable for longer than 4 hours.

>brand this massive update at "Minecraft 2" or some shit
>make underground 1 - 128, as opposed to 1 - 64
>move all the original ores 64 blocks up so diamond starts spawning at Y:~75
>have everything below 64 require a new level of metal pickax to break through
>can only obtain this special metal after beating the end dragon or maybe just finding some of the metal itself after breaking it in the end
>new "Tier II" metals, that open up four new metals, can be whatever the fuck you want them to be
>maybe have them be composite metals, requiring two different types of special metals that are slightly rarer than diamond
>forge these two metals into a new crafting block called a smeltery, which runs off diamonds or some shit
>have the strongest of Tier II metals take a legitimately long time to get so the game doesn't feel done after 4 hours of playing

Other shit

>prespawned cities, serving as massive villages
>spawns once every 10,000 blocks, so very rare, but normal villages could have maps that lead you to them
>cities are walled and require a speaking token that you can get at a friendly village
>walls are made of Tier II metal blocks which can't be broken with diamond or below
>high level guards can easily kill you if you attempt to break in or shoot you down from guard towers
>becoming a friend to the city is worth it, access to shops which sell Tier I rares and armor (saddles, elytras, other shit found only in dungeons)
>maybe the cities steam or industrial punk, indicating you're moving technologically up from the medieval age armors
>have elevators and other steam powered shit

Seriously what the fuck. Just off the top of my fucking head. I've seen mods that do similar stuff. Step up Mojang.

>>
>>122046234

If I'm going to build, which I do, I build in creative. Building is cool, I agree, but honestly unless it's in multiplayer anything outside a small house is useless. Even then, I have yet to find a free form vanilla server (similar to civcraft) that let's you build without bullshit and have the majority of people stay in your player built city for more than 48 hours. Survival and creative are two completely different aspects of the game, and while creative itself is fun, survival is still incredibly underdeveloped.

quick question about botania

If I change: I:passiveWither.time=48000

I:passiveWither.time=-1

will that stop the dayblooms, hydroangeans and nightshades from decaying? or am I looking at the wrong config section?

It's actually a form of autism spectrum detection. If you see anyone questioning the logo, their butthurt over it denotes their autism level.
>>

That's the right part of the config, but changing it won't do shit on any of the recent updates, because Vazki hard-coded the value as a fuck-you to people who only use passive gen, and disable the decay mechanic.

The botania fork >>122073625 (if you're not using it already) has more config options and undoes most of Vazki's "balance" changes to things like passive gen.

Making a system comprised of multiple mods blocks that work together to achieve a greater purpose, while those blocks look good together, in an actual building, not hiding them inside walls or in a cave underneath said building.

there should be a nordic mythology mod. One that adds the midgaard serpent, the Fenris wolf, giants and such.
Preferably with stats, gods you can kill in order to loot their equipment and different dimensions like Asgard, Muspelheim, Svartalfheim etc.

Or add ragnarok. All biomes becomes snowy/icy, eternal night, giants roaming and killing people, animals and so on

Yeah, that's definitely what modded Minecraft needs more of, even more Twilight-Forest-wannabe biomes that end up just being The End 2.0, getting looted once and then completely forgotten by the whole server, occasionally being remembered when the server owner looks at how much server resources it's pointlessly taking up.

>>
>>122092294
Probably hightech looking scale blocks.
>>
>>122092604
Make those 9 realms into different biomes at best or forget the idea.
9 dimensions for one mod is overkill and will automatically cause most people to consider it gimmicky or bloaty, like every other mod with more than two dimensions.
>>
>>122092535
>reaction image
Autism speaks.
>>
>>122092604
The problem isn't dimensions, it's how the dimensions is used
You'd have to add some reason for people to build in those dimension
This could be crops that would only grow in the new dimension, blocks that would only function in that dimension etc.
Otherwise it becomes Twilight Forest 2.0, which, once you've looted it, becomes completely pointless, and only ends up making the world bigger in file size

idk man, I had a blast with it. it wasn't necessarily the gameplay/mechanics of it that were fun, it was the resulting feeling of territorial wars. the problem was dumbass 1-man factions who would log out at the first sign of trouble so you couldn't take their land. faction servers are generally just wastelands of abandoned blown-out bases with broken walls, cannon remnants, and water flowing fucking everywhere

>so the game doesn't feel done after 4 hours of playing
I'm so tired of people thinking that they're done with MC after progressing all the way through the materials chain. I will agree that the chain is pretty short, but what's allowed me to spend hundred of hours in the game isn't the excitement of finding diamonds or anything. I have played without mods for almost this entire time just by using my imagination, role-playing with what I have in the game, and making up stories for what's going on. I keep little journals, hide them in distant shacks in the woods or whatever, and then I think of new things to make using what's given to me in the vanilla game (even though fucking nobody is ever going to see it).

Have people decided on a "best" Worldgen mod yet? RWG is kind of a pain to navigate around and find caves in, even though it looks incredible. I tried Highlands next, but I found that even though it looks neat I had a ton of trouble finding anywhere suitable to build without clearing a lot of land. My next choice could be BoP but I heard it's hugely laggy at all times, which sucks.

What else is there, then?
>>
>>122105330
The Witchery one can pick literally any biome from any of the mods you have installed - Witching Gadgets only lets you pick a few vanilla/thaumcraft biomes I believe.

Never really use Blood Magic so I'm not sure how versatile it is for biome changing.

>>
>>122105657
Blood magic's biome changing works based on the biomes humidity/temp, so you can theoretically get any biome if you know those values

>The ritual assumes first of all that you have a humidity of 0.5 and a temperature of 0.5. It will then consume the items that you have placed and modify the humidity and temperature accordingly. It also starts with assuming that a range of 0.1 is acceptable in both directions. If the ritual can not find a biome that is registered in the list, it will simply set the biome to a "plains" biome, with a biome ID of 1.

You can also change defined areas in any shape as long as the shape touches the middle of the ritual. you define it by outlining an area in bloodstone.

It's probably the least userfriendly option, but you can make a biome without having seen it, and in any connected shape you want.

The witchery one might just be best for general use though, or the randomthings one if you need a small area of biome for specific things, like bees

They only spawn in magical forests (obviously), any biome with the magical tag (if you use BoP, look for it on https://github.com/Glitchfiend/BiomesOPlenty/blob/4588b048e4807f517d2b22874b0e79f15f2bc444/src/main/java/biomesoplenty/common/core/BOPBiomes.java), and very rarely on vanilla forests.

Most problems with faction servers are the lack of density. I have yet to find a city or faction in any server that had a respectable amount of people that lasted more than a week.

>build a house
>max out
>maybe open up a shop if you're an overachiever
>everybody in the faction is a pussy so progress stagnates
>gets boring after a week

It's something inherently wrong with the game itself to be honest. Maxing out in the game is easy enough in single player, let alone having an aggregate collection of people help you out. Which is another problem, factions are almost ALWAYS communist.

>free land
>free building materials
>free food
>sometimes even free armor and weapons

It would be interesting to see a free form server where people went full jew and just capitalized nearly every aspect of the game so you had to engage and integrate yourself into the server than just have everything handed to you.

I have no idea how good authentication plugins for pirate friendly servers are, and don't want to use them. Right now all I want is a place to play as Meat is too busy playing Fallout to fix his own server. Or he no longer gives a shit, idk.
>>
>>122133858
It's hard not to be communist when everyone is capable of everything. Nothing in the game particularly requires more skill than anything else, or more than entry level knowledge of doing it, so there is no specialization, thus no marketable skills.

Can't make a living being a pork merchant when setting up a pork farm is as easy as having wheat, wood, and pigs, with no real active time constraint on any of them.

Modded servers work more for that. Long progression chains not everyone wants go down leads to people becoming 'The thaumcraft guy", "The witchery guy", "the factory guy', and thus lies the ability to trade goods.

>>122135904
Makes an easy, fast progression route even easier and faster. Communism leads to people getting to 'endgame" in a very short time and makes people bored of the game.

Best gameplay method is 1-2 to a base but everyone is friendly. Do your own progression, hang out with others and see what they are up to. having 5-10 people in a group = shit

When will someone steal and cut the bloat from mods like Biomes o Plenty and Harvestcraft? Both bloated mods with some cool content and absolute unsalvageable faggot devs. I'd love to be able to disable all of BoP's custom plants and ores for instance, leaving only the terrain blocks and trees. Then it'd be a pretty good mod. Or like, cut out 90% of Harvestcraft's stupid identical crops and just leave a few extra ones in plus all the cooking stuff.

Let's shift the focus, then. What's the -ideal- food mod for use without Hunger Overhaul? What would it add, and how would it make itself different from the scores of other similar food mods out there?

An ideal food mods would change what you need to eat to something like TFC, where your base heart value is based off of how your diet is. Add in to that extra "buffs" like eating a sugary food will give you a temporary speed boost but make you more thirsty, eating a steak will fill you up extremely fast and make you deal more damage, at the cost of being a bit slower to move. And having a balanced diet with all the food groups gradually giving you more and more hp, but at a slower rate over time. Think about it like having a balanced diet for x amount of in-game weeks giving you an extra half heart of hp, with no real limit on it.
>>
>>122138118
referring to "cooperation" as "communism" only makes you guys sound like idiots, you do realize.

and if your people are getting bored that fast, they're going to do so whether they're getting shit done or not.

And it's more about the fact that people who run commies in this kind of general tend to suck in people who haven't played the pack and do things for them, instead of letting them figure it out themselves, it tends to drive folk off by coddling them to the end.

You obviously have never played in a faction server then. Cooperation is a term that can be mutually applied to both communism and capitalism.

Cooperating in communist factions:
>move into an established faction
>usually a community chest with equipment or even building materials
>if you need something, "anyone have wood"? get it 20 seconds later
>go over to a public field and just take whatever you please
>build where ever you want for free
>sometimes if the faction is large enough they'll supply you with armor and weapons
>repeat process, walk around for 2 days, get bored, leave

Cooperating in ideal capitalist factions:
>move into an established faction
>"hey i'll give you some food if you do this errand for me"
>"hey i'll give you some currency if keep doing this errand"
>buy shit at local store with currency
>work for it, get some satisfaction
>eventually earn money easily so buying food doesn't get grindy
>buy land, set up a shop
>buy mass materials distributed by a supplier
>take into account land value and economics, retail on the first floor, second floor for living
>ask other people to do errands
>accrue more money, expand shop
>maybe sell one side of your shop wall for advertising
>set up more shops in other factions
>buy real estate, rent out to poor players
>accrue more and more assets, become a corporate overlord that has a hand in manipulating global politics

But like this guy >>122138118 said, the game's progression chain stops short when you can specialize in stuff and consequently the entire process works against itself regarding multiplayer.

I tried using /give playername 6819 1 to give myself a jetpack (because I'm stupid) and now my game has crashed and I can't fix it. I'm not sure, but it might be Decocraft. For a more modern lights, try out Fiat Lux, it's got fluorescent bar lights.

In other news, I may want to build a museum of natural history in my survival world. Anyone want to suggest things to put in it? Deserts are the best. No need to cut down trees, relatively flat landscape leading to sprawling builds, and opportunity for rivers/water to really shine.

I tried to make an underwater base once, but I never really finished it. They can be neat if done properly; most are too confined or too blocky for my tastes.

Also waaay too many fucking "Rapture" builds that either don't look like it at all or are very half-assed.

I really loved how this one was done, and am kind of surprised how I immediately remembered the name after four years:

well generally a sandbox has a finite amount of stuff in it.
minecraft is more like a sand-continuum. there's more, always more, you just have to explore a bit further out.

unless you use a world border, which is missing the point of minecraft.

I started in beta 1.5, and my friend brought me over to a factions server in beta 1.6 that changed my world. The whole world was filled with people building things and actively maintaining their bases, there were a few godlike superfactions that ruled over, but they weren't invincible and everybody kind of had the ability to participate. Nowadays you have 80billion servers running that standard glut of popular mods (factions, mcmmo, shops, what the fuck ever else) and every one of them is like a fucking wasteland :[

Plus they all give you these bullshit kits so that you don't have to mine or farm or do fucking anything at the beginning, just get your daily full iron + diamond sword + power 2 bow and sprint/jumpspam across the map looking for something to do.

What's are Bagginses and GrimoireOfGaia? I'll have to look into this.

I love Thaumcraft and Witchery so I support much of this. Last time I played Mystcraft my game lagged like a bitch, but I love it.

Would also recommend Twilight Forest and Biomes O' Plenty if you can, offers even more variety, and a bit of adventure. Plus adds to the magical feel of things.

Grimoire of Gaia is a mob mod. Adds a bunch of mobs many of which are significantly harder than vanilla, and most of which are anime waifus. It's alright.

Watching vids about how to build can be helpful tips, as well as inspiration for other things. Images of architecture and other things can also help. The rest will take either something I forgot to list, or plain old creativity and ability to take the blocks available, and make them into something that works.

Trial and error is another thing, too. I can't tell you how many variations of a wizard's tower I've gone through before I finally found something I'm happy with.

Actually, let me give you an example since you asked about living in a box.

Think creatively about the blocks available. Like those stairs you can build. Don't they slope a bit like a roof?

What I like to do is build the walls of a home out of oak planks, then make the roof out of dark oak stairs. It provides a nice contrast.

For an extra rustic and cozy look, use vertical oak logs as supports in all the corners. Possibly supports for the roof as well, if you feel up for all of that.

A lot of people have already come up with some pretty key points. I feel like a big one that hasn't been mentioned yet is adding texture to whatever your building. It's a very basic concept, but a lot of players look over it for some reason.

For example, the pic related is a house I built on civcraft. I'm not saying it's a good house by any means, but I tried to emphasis the above concept of articulating the 3D medium presented in the game. My roofs are set apart from the flat walls via an overhang, cantilevers line the front wall, vertical fences add some texture and define the corner, I tried to frame the actual corner using a different material than my main material, and using windows panes adds a 3D effect. This is a pretty basic house too, and confines to the stereotypical medieval house one might see in a lot of cities. Once in a while I'll see a well done modern house, with flat tops, cantilevers, and static materials used to define a blank wall. I've seen Japanese houses, skyscrapers, even some organic architecture that twists and curves .

That being said, since you're (mostly) confined to 1x1 meter building blocks, large buildings will have more opportunity to add texture.

As other people said, just joining a server and seeing the other buildings is a good way to see some differing concepts. It's pretty easy to tell what buildings are bad and good. Most architects you see in the real world are usually influenced by previous architects, and it's uncommon to have an architect come by and produce good designs that are unique and different on the fly. Frank Lloyd Wright was a revolutionary architect because for the first time in history he challenged the idea of symmetry and order and tried to create something that worked more with the human instead of preconceived ideals. This meant he was working from scratch with barely anything to base his designs off of. The fact that he produced really interesting works is what makes him "the" architect.

1. Build larger. Things usually look prettier and more detailed.
2. Avoid large flat walls.
3. Contrast and equilibrium of colours.
4. If a block looks too "busy", "random" or otherwise draws too much attention, use it for details, not as main material.
5. Use RL pictures to draw inspiration from.
6. Don't terraform everything into flatness; work with the terrain, not against it.

Galacticraft can be DMCA'd, but with a catch. They moved from the GPL to a custom license which says that the moment you become a Contributor (including posting issues, PRs, etc.) to the new license your code is automatically re-licensed. But you can still DMCA it if you have not.

I've had it installed, but the spawn rates seem pretty low. Themewise, there's still monster girls, but I think the ratio of monsters to girls favors the former; fewer waifus. The few mobs I've seen look good, though, and while they do have unique drops I'd say there's a lot fewer different items to clog up your inventory overall. It's basically GoG but less... everpresent, I guess. I prefer it, personally, but that's a matter of opinion.
>>
>>122235093
How tough are the monsters?
>>
>>122235093
That's not all the mobs, by the way. As I understand it there are a lot more than that - I've seen some salamanders out in the desert for instance, and a dullahan girl who carries her head in one arm. I realized that that collage might betray what I said about the ratio of monsters to girls, so if you care about that, keep in mind that in terms of marketing the mod of course the dev would want to show off all the waifus in the screenshots.
>>
>>122235220
The monsters I'd say are somewhere between vanilla and GoG strength. They tend to be pretty beefy healthwise, but I don't think there's anything (on the surface anyway) that will oneshot you on your first night, like say Firefoxes and Cockatrices from GoG tend to do.

>OP
I agree with FlowerChild in this regard - people who feel the need to abbreviate "overpowered" into "OP" are likely the ones who use the word a bit too much to have any insight about design.

Anyway. If you consider space a resource in Minecraft, it can be overpowered, since moving takes time and an out-of-the-box compact storage system overrides the necessity of thinking about placement for fast and easy access. This makes compact storage solutions clearly powerful, but if that "powerful" is "overpowered" or plainly "powerful" depends on what you're comparing with, the preferences of the player, the focus of the modpack, yadda yadda yadda.

TL;DR: it can be OP depending on a bunch of stuff.

Both me and >>122238703 assumed you quoted the wrong person here: >>122238543, since the link in the post you quoted makes ZERO references to FC, but the post I did (>>122238448) does. So no, it isn't brain damage, we have no fault if you think we have crystal balls around in /mcg/.

I downloaded Thermal Expansion today and i cannot for the life of me find this Electrrum anywhere. Anyone know how to obtain it? I know gold and silver ingots can be put into a pulverizer to make Electrum Blend --> Electrum Ingots. However, i need the electrum to make Redstone Conductance Coil --> Leadstone Energy Cell because without the energy cell i cant use the pulverizer since it needs to be powered with RF. Am i missing something here?

power the pulverizer directly with one of the power engine thingies. I forget the names since it's been a bit.

You don't need energy storage RIGHT away

>It's basically GoG but less... everpresent, I guess.
GoG's default spawn rates with completely suffocate every other mod in your pack, halving the spawn rates in its config or dividing them by 4 make the whole mod much more pleasant.
By the way new thread fuckin never.
