Got caught in the open as the close-range slugger Reaper? Just press your invulnerability button and float over to a healthkit. You get this and many other movement tools completely free, there's nothing you give up for them, like sacrificing health with a rocket-jump.


The tools Overwatch gives you to solve problems are contained in a single, brainless button rather than a complex and difficult set of movements and/or offensive measures. The entire game revolves around identifying the correct rock-paper-scissors situation to press your button, then pressing it. There is no serious skill of any kind involved. You're going through the motions of what you think a video game entails.

The miniscule difference between a week-old Overwatch player and a year-old Overwatch player will be lost in the cloud of instakill ultimates, teleports and AOE abilities. This game is transcendentally shit, and there is no escape from it. This is the very profitable future of FPS. Hell. Population: you.

Makes sense until you consider that Overwatch is trying to pretend it's an FPS game, not a strategy game. All of the ways in which Overwatch is different from other real time strategy games (the camera, the pace, the lack of resources to fight over) are flaws.

Let's consider Overwatch's strategy merit compared to another the-player-controls-one-unit strategy game like DOTA. Each player has ~3 skills and an ultimate, so there's parity there.

But the camera perspective isn't top-down, it's first person. This makes zero sense for a strategy game and inhibits the player's ability to get an overall picture of what's going on. The controls also make it impossible for the player to ever control more than one unit, like they sometimes do in DOTA.

There are no map resources to fight over - as a strategy game, the only strategic element is the win condition. You cannot have such a lopsided 'strategy' game ever be interesting by its strategic merit.

Overwatch is shit as either an FPS game or a strategy game.

The issue with Roadhog as a tank character (and we're talking as a tank not a character in general) is that while his pull is strong as fuck and his damage is good there is really nothing that he provides to a team being a TANK outside of that.

When you look at the giant list of assfaggot characters the ones with the hook are always thought to be the big game changes but in practice it's only if they have the hook and really good CC outside of the hook (shit like Pudge from DotAor Blizt from LoL) or team assist (prenerf Khepri) that make them great for team fights. What makes Roadhog scary is that he has the hook displacement and he's able to kill you by himself (as you've stated) but that doesn't actually make him any different than any other assassin. Widowmaker shooting you across the map is a harder punish than Roadhog and any assassin character getting behind your line is more punishing than Roadhog.

But as a tank there's nothing. The hook punish isn't as bad in Overwatch with the crazy movement in than in comparable assfaggot games and then he's no tank outside of the high HP and self heal. He doesn't provide any sort of shield or protection for his team and the idea that "he's annoying so kill him first" is also applied to every single damage dealing character in the game.

It's the same reason we've seen DVA suffer. Neither are providing tank assistance to the team and the reason to kill them are basically "maybe we kill them because maybe they land the hook/nuke and then that's sucks because we'll die" when you have Bastion or Winston or Reinhardt (who admittedly not the best) and it's "we have to kill them because if we don't then we never get to kill the rest of their team but hey they're hard to kill shit".

His hook is big (and fun to use) but it's not even as punishing on position and it's his high burst damage that's his only real saving grace.

I agree, he's not as direct in allowing squishy damage dealers to push with him like Reinhardt or Zarya, but that's the thing. He's super hard to kill first.

You can drive him off momentarily and get some breathing room from his fat ass, but it's relatively easy for him to get away and come back, 300 health stronger. So that's a ton of damage and aimtime that's redirected at Roadhog, that he can essentially continue soaking up indefinitely, as long as he paces his health.

Blizzard already made a server build because the game runs on something. Giving it to the players to help the load is not a hard thing. Look at every other game which is not bent on milking the customers, it has server executable, for example: Valve games, pre-matchmaking Call of duty, etc. Matchmaking is a hell which should not exists on PC, because it removes the need for communities and make the company invest more in the infrastructure instead of letting people with a common interest build a Community.

I don't agree with specific comparison but they're going to happen regardless. As a shooter it's very clearly more comparable to TF2 in terms of objective gameplay and just gameplay overall than it is to any other shooter. The MOBA shit makes no sense when talking about a lot of shit in the game but Overwatch is still a shooter with "a bunch of characters that individually might not have a lot of shit but hey look here's a ton you can pick every game" and has ultimates.

The fact that skillbased classes (and really, they are not that skillbased - every one has an autoaim or autopositioning skill, tracer's cone of fire is enormous, same with mei) means nothing when the non-skill-based classes overshadow them utterly. Shield classes are dominant in Overwatch.

Thanks for telling me you haven't played the game, because McCree is ridiculously OP. Headshots do 170 damage from across the map and if you can aim you're going to go on 20 killstreaks with him, and the vast vast majority of those aren't going to be with IT'S HIIIIIGH NOOOOON which makes you walk slow as shit and makes you glow to pain a big "please shoot me" sign on you.

Also if you can't use Mei's ult fire which requires you to aim you're not going to be very effective with her since any midrange character will shut you down.

While I can appreciate that side to his role I'm still not really feeling it.

If you have some hyper mobile fuck like Tracer or Genji (and he's is just going off gameplay from Blizcon) get behind your backline then you're diverting a lot of resources to go catch those fuckers because you're now going in reverse to rectify the fact that you're being shot up.

The self-heal is strong on Roadhog but due to his nonexistent mobility you're only ever going to ideally be up to the most heavily contested zone and when I was up against an entire time I got squashed by sheer damage. Sure in 1v1 I was unkillable going in and out of doorways but at the same time I'm confident I would have been better off doing something else beyond dueling someone in the middleground.

I think what it ultimately comes down to are future maps as more than anything he's going to need map advantage more than any other "tank".

There is no reason apart from management or finance decision not to give the ability for the players to host servers for their own.
It keeps the company in control (until someone breaks the code and makes a server for himself) because they can always shut you off from the game for any reason they deem necessary.

Csgo also has ranked matchmaking and official severs and there are unofficial ones you can host for yourself. This is true for Dota and tf2. Payday and borderland use the peer to peer-ish local client natpunch model where one player is crowned "host" and apart from sometimes horrendous trip times it is sufficient if there is a proper playerbase, which for bl2, is not. Clients stay connected to multiple servers.
There's a login server, lobby server, matchmaking server, and instance server (plus others that i'm not going to go into). Instance servers do direct account modifications (storing information about player bests etc). Blizzard's been historically a very closed system company. They don't like having people report data back to them; having to not have the MM/Lobby server's be IP whitelisted, exposing them to general public is a bad idea in general.

Also allowing for servers to only be spun up interally allows for a better user experience; how many times have you joined some shitty gmod server with 80000 files that could barely run? Having them dynamically allocated based on user count w/ something like amazon EC2 servers is a much better solution than spreading out server binaries to every shitskin

He absolutely destroys ANY hero at ANY range. Only Widowmaker can match him at long range. At close range Flashbang + RMB + roll for instant reload + RMB will kill absolutely anything almost instantly, in fact that is overkill 90% of the time.

The only tanks that seem to do more damage than an Offense hero are Roadhog and Zarya, and Roadhog is very reliant on his hook to set the combo up, and Zarya on her shield boosts.

Reinhardt does 70 damage a swing, 100 from his e and 350 from his charge, plus has a 3 second long stun
Zarya does 150 a grenade at full charge (which is easy to get) and has an insane ult. her shield makes her literally invulnerable, symmetra's right click doesn't go through it
Winston is literally the dumbest fucking character in the game, he literally just has to shift -> e -> m1 and you can't escape him, at 45 DPS he's able to kill most classes within 5 seconds, and if he's in trouble his ult gives him 1000 HP, 1 second CD jumps, and a super powerful m1. His shield stops almost everything in the game, including reinhardt's stun which makes no sense.
DVA is unkillable, her shield stops almost every single class in the game
Roadhog does more damage than any other class in the game, while having the highest health pool and a self heal.
