I can't believe how the interest for this game went downhill from the E3 to now. They are really ruining characters with these balance changes. If their plan post-release is to give them back their tools from the beta days that were already there in the first place and removed FOR NO FUCKING REASON then it makes the growth of the game totally unexciting.

I don't know who's to blame for these really bad, unnecessary design changes but I think Combofiend has more to do with them than Dimps this time around. And it's fucking pathetic.

Really pissed off with this game at the moment. Every news I hear it's something bad, how would they expect to make people interested with the game if they remove fun from characters?

This said, I don't really care for censored butt slaps or butt shots. This post is more of a rant about recent balance changes that makes characters more straightforward and less fun.

If people are going to buy Street Fighter, they'll buy Street Fighter, and the casuals, by definition of their gameplaying nature, won't bother playing it for longer than a week anyway, so there is no point to catering to them one way or the other. I feel like the people in charge of marketing the game don't understand this, and there's no way to get it through their thick skulls. However, I feel it's better to just develop it for the target demograph and the casuals can play and put it down as they usually would any other game because the casual crowd is indifferent to whether or not they can get into a niche genre because casualizing it won't change how long the game holds their interest in playing it, as it's statistically shown that they only play pick-up-and-play type games like Angry Birds that only need a few minutes of your attention per "stage" or "level" or whatever.

They've already bought it and they can play games with other casuals who don't know how to do the fun tricks to make them feel bad, or they can be interested enough to learn and step out of their casual stage.

At this point, even KOFXIV looks greater than it, and KOFXIV looks god awful. At least aesthetically speaking.

I've met ComboFiend before so I know he's a good fighting game player firsthand and knows his stuff. So how can he and his Love Hina reading ass let this kind of thing slide with no comment to the community that I thought he was supposed to communicate with?

For me, Aegis just needs to have one particular aspect retained, since I'm damn sure it won't set up unblockables: I want it to stop moving completely after a set distance, something Rashid's whirlwind does not do.

Though difficult, I'm assuming there will likely be a way to set up the magic distance for aegis, off of a hit tackle or some such, where it is thrown at a cornered opponent and stops moving just in front of them so it does not touch them, but gives them no room to move. Aside from the usual high/low aegis pressure, I hope that oppressive wall which is just barely not touching you is also a use for it.

Does anyone here actually think Super Turbo is fun? Sure it takes skill, but it just seems so archaic and binary to me.

It is already confirmed to not have unblockables. I tried everything I could with Rashid and could not get any situation that was unblockable. Unless Capcom decides to just make an exception for Urien, the dream is dead. Still, something I was thinking they could do with Urien is have his v-skill be aegis that lasts for like a second mainly used to reflect projectiles. This wouldn't fit for his playstyle though.

I really don't know what they're going to do with him. If SFV supposedly does happen pre-3S then he might not even have Aegis since story-wise he had to learn the skill after awhile being in the Illuminati.

You're wrong. Casuals drop fighting games because they don't see themselves getting to the level of the pros. Making SFV easier will have them maintain interest longer. Capcom wants the game to be played for years by casuals.

The game has to be fun at a basic level. Dumbing it down and forcing people to play a certain way is bad and caters to scrubs and intermediate players. Casuals just want to mash and see new shit happen that works. Making something too simple will turn them off.

The goal should be to make every fight entertaining win or lose. SF2, early Marvel games, and early Tekken all had a fun factor no matter how you approached the game. I could just super jump and tatsu for meter in XvsSF for hours and have fun as a kid, even if I got my ass beat. Shit felt good until I got hit with too many infinites.

This. I hate to bring up Smash, but look at Melee. It is arguably the most competitive of Smash games, but it is the most played and most watched. People can argue Fox only etc, but it's very exciting to Smashfags apparently. You don't have to buy them though. You don't even have to use your fight money either desu. The good thing about being able to choose which character to buy/earn is that nobody plans to learn or use every character unless you're infiltration.

If the first character is a character you have no interest in, then just save up your fight money for the next character. You'll still be able to play against that dlc character online, you just can't play as them.

The thing is, fighting games are a niche genre and simplifying them to any level won't hold a casual player's interest for long, no matter what. It's not the kind of game Angry Birds is, which I just referred to as a pick up and play kind of game. You just play it for a couple minutes on your phone, complete what you mean to do quickly and get some kind of quick result feedback, and you can do it all over again in the matter of a few minutes on your phone. This is the age of phone games, and the only people really interested in a fighting game certainly isn't the casual audience. God do the people in there suck. I don't care that much, but I popped in there recently a few times and I'm rusty as shit for Xrd however I kicked the regulars asses so easily. I think I only fought two decent people in there. One guy who was actually good and I kept losing to, but was close a lot of times. People want something with more activity going on with console games and presentation is usually key. People can go 3-25 in Cod and continue playing because they at least got a sick killstreak. Casuals play MKX purely to mash through single player mode and watch fatalities.

Skullgirls. Combines legit fun gameplay, competitiveness, high skill-ceiling, and interesting lore. People will complain about combos being too long, but that was way back then and they haven't tried the updated version which has improved undizzy and IPS and rebalanced characters. Hands down, the best fighting game I've ever played, and I've played a good number of fighting games in my time. There's also no one in my level to play with and the only person who plays fighting games around here is a friend who doesn't even play that well.

In fact i think i should talk a bit about him, it's really funny.

I came to japan and i met the guy, he says he really like fighting games too, i asked him what he liked to play and he only said sf4. He and i decided to buy arcades sticks because here in japan those are cheap as fuck, i got a hori rap v4 and he got a madcatz tournament 2.

After that i we finally could play some SF and i found out he is terrible at the game and doesn't know a bunch of basic stuff, he only plays shotos(especially sakura) and spams the one combo that he knows over and over, he jumps like a mad man and he didn't even knew that jump attacks count as over heads. I rarely loose against him and i was incredibly shitty at the game back then. He lost so much to me that he stopped playing the game.

If I'm facing left this isn't too bad because I can push down with the bottom of my thumb on the DPad and then forward with the top of my thumb.

Because I barely have to move my thumb I can do this really quickly and its easy for me to do something like canceling a hadoken into a super (3S)

But when facing the other direction, I can barely get this to work because I can no longer use my thumb in the same way.

How do you guys move your thumb for special inputs? I've tried shit like sliding the tip of my thumb from D to F and thats fine for a normal special input but its too slow and inconsistent for canceling.

Any advice?

That's exactly what I was thinking. That video was supposed to show us Sim is actually good, but then he goes and struggles hard vs a fucking IGN reported who was a hair's breadth away from outright mashing.

Sim is going to be COMPLETE garbage at release if they don't make some serious changes in the next 3 months.

I actually think Gief looks fine though. It seems like they buffed his SPD damage, he ca combo into SPD and even his command grab super, plus his air SPD looks awesome. He is slow yeah, but it looks like making good read with him is going to payoff big time, and that's a LOT more than you can say for Sim at the moment.

Laura and Rashid are just completely fucking interesting imo. Rashid is just a watered down Fuerte, and Laura has the tools for interesting stuff because of her slow moving fireball, but it really doesn't seem like she'll be able to get any true setups off that shit. The startup on the fb is way too long, and it comes out way too close to laura's body, AND if laura gets hit once the fb just disappears completely.
