Anyone know a good lighting mod that can create larger radius lights, either powered or unpowered? I have had a hell of a time finding them. There was a spotlight mod I used but it isn't supported anymore AFI.

I am also wondering that too. I last played 1.4 mod packs and then I recently tried new mod packs and I am fucking lost. There is so much mod with so many new ores, machines, etc.. I want to play them but the recipes are disgustingly hard and unnecessarily complicated.

I am open to the tips. Like there used to be recipe papers I don't remember their names you set recipes to the paper and you automatically make stuff when you put that paper into the crafting station. I've heard AE2 have something like that but that mod is too complicated and hard.

Forestry and Thermal expansion both have "project tables" with a small internal inventory, and can save several recipes.
I prefer the forestry one over TE, because it's cheap (book, chest, crafting table) and save 8 recipes compared to 3 in the TE one, though the TE one saves them to blueprint items which can be swapped out.

Very much so, digger/builder's ones are very useful when set to resupply mode (yellow arrow). Hunter's is good for keeping inventory clear of most mob drops, likewise for miner's and ores/gems/etc - but it is worth adding extra items and blocks to config for them to improve their usefulness.
However, if you want to upgrade them, you'll have to dip into bees just a little. You only need tropical bees though, which are a base species (hives spawn up in jungle trees), to get silk wisps.

From a quick look at the modlist, you have a few options.
-Big reactors, depending on the config, can produce stupid amounts of power. Variable size/config multiblock structure that's basically fire and forget.
-Buildcraft has the stone/stirling engine, which is cheap as fuck, and runs on anything that burns. Or use the iron/combustion engine which uses lava/oil/fuel and needs a liquid coolant.
-Forestry has some engines, but I can't remember how to create the fuel for them. Clockwork is just a right-click-to-wind-up.
-Railcraft has a few options. Hobbyist engine is basically just coal and water, but the next 2 tiers only accept steam directly, which means building a boiler (multiblock, variable size. firebox+boiler tank)
-Solar flux. Exponential expensive tiers for mawpc set-and-forget power gen.
Also, BC/Forestry/RC engines need a redstone signal to run, so just drop a lever down next to them.

Inventorium is kinda like AE, but much harder to set up autocrafting - it's still do-able, but not for any arcane crafting.
The system runs on ordo vis, so might be worth exploring and trying to find a pure ordo node (70+) for it.
There is still a "channel" aspect - number of inventory slots accessible is limited by the bookshelves/type around the core, and number of unseen scribes is limited by order crystal clusters around the core.
Unseen scribes are much akin to read-only storage buses from AE, they will read the inventory of anything in a 7x7x7 around itself, but only of one type of inventory (without the upgrade).

FPS improvement? On this poor a graphics card, you really can't do much - from my experience, the GMA has an insurmountable, resolution-dependent FPS cap (fillrate-related?). You can lower the resolution, I guess.

Locus is essentially a multiblock "wireless" container for any amount of all essentia it is set to read in jars\reservoirs. You mark jars\reservoirs with eyes, set them on the locus and locus now "has" all this essentia and can redistribute it through any mirrors requesting essentia.

Inventarium is pretty convoluted in it's description but unless you are dense you won't have much trouble actually setting it up, just carefully read all the relevant researches and build it step by step, don't rush to grasp whole concept from the text alone.

It's mostly due to how mods are nowadays. Back in Tekkit days, mods were like you said, everything could stand on its own. Buildcraft had pipes and quarries, IC2 had processing and power. Redpower had logic programming and other stuff. That's why they played so well together.
But after that people started making more and more mods with copied features from other mods, so if you want to use whatever original things that one mod has, you have to have those copied features as well. This is why you get 10 different powered furnaces and grinders, 5 different quarries and millions of different pipes that do the exact same thing in packs.

I always make kitchen sinks because there's no reason not to:
1. For instance, say i want a bunch of RC jet fuel turbines in a scary noisy factory turning dozens of shafts, i can use automagy + railcraft\stevegrind + any mobspawning mod to achieve that, hiding non-fitting parts elsewhere or not

In regards to autocrafting with it - you can't do on demand crafting, but you can set up a system to keep X stock of basic items, so if you drop below that amount, the golems will craft more. It just uses some other things from automagy: tally box, golemic inhibitor and a golem linked to the golem workbench or something like a furnace/etc.

I might try one for the essentia locus later, but it's tedious and a bit draining.

However, the engine becomes a lot more flexible (but there's a higher learning curve due to the fact you cannot directly control the tesselation context - this is because of the multithreaded chunk loading and rendering added in 1.8. Mechanical power: there are plenty other power systems out there. Worth mentioning Reika's, since it's mechanical and better-modelled than FC's on/off.

Block dispenser: even Thermal Expansion has something that works like that.

Anvil: larger crafting benches are fairly common.

Steel pressure plates: Obsidian Pressure Plates mod is pretty much this feature straightly from BtW.

Maybe the thing is that you want those features in a single package...? If it is THIS, then I'm beginning to get the appeal.

Whenever BTW gets discussed i usually point out that i like the mod as a whole, it's a very solid, entertaining package, but i absolutely LOATHE some of the Hardcore features, and those features are a complete deal-breaker for me. I hate how everyone goes "WE NEED TO OVERTHROW LEX" and almost nobody (especially on 4chan) has any thoughtful ideas of what to do AFTER Lex is overthrown. The only way to win the hearts of modders is by being superior, by actually offering something. Think about it: What happens if Lex is gone and Forge no longer has stable maintenance, at the same time a few competing APIs springing to life, often by the kind of people who notice that there's money to be made off being the top one, as well as modders fighting over who's right and who's wrong all over again. You will make life worse for modders AND for players for months to come, where the outcome has the chance of being far worse than what it is now. You have to make it worth it, and "Lex is literally Hitler" is not worth it because (a) we know that, (b) we don't care and (c) it does not impact our modding in any major way.

No, it wouldn't. The main problem with NOVA not having a future is the lack of documentation. It's done and ready to be used (ThoughtSTEM uses it internally and has to keep all improvements open source as per the license), it just lacks documentation.

Besides, don't forget that NOVA ran ON TOP of Forge. One of the goals was wrapper independence, but I doubt we'd ever reach critical mass enough to back a different wrapper with any kind of significance.

Wrong, it has good durability and 7 or 8 mining speed, which are the best stats out of anything that comes before steel.

You need to multiply that mining speed by some number to get something closer to the actual speed for your hammers, that's a small detail mDiyo left that nobody really understands. You can easily compare mining with a hammer to mining with a pickaxe and you'll see.
By the way, hammers get a larger speed boost with redstone than pickaxes, and they get better scaling with more than one full redstone upgrade as well.

It was even better in 1.6 because GregTech would scan the entire ore dictionary every time you opened the game back then, and MFR would add that greggy line to every single item if it detected GT, resulting in load times of 10+ minutes on any average machine.
