The first part of MXYL has a shitty intro expositing garbage that doesn't establish that the story is a "what if" future very well. Because of this, Penders had a full page he whipped up real quick with Merlin talking about visions from the future precede it. That Knuckles is from that page.

That SINGLE page and the "Father's Day" story are the only ones he drew himself, so he's blowing his load a bit early.

Just something that feels like they understand the original appeal of Sonic. Boost was nice but felt lacking in a few places, especially after 3 [3D] games of it. Have some split paths with some requiring dexterity and skill to get to and others that require the player to explore a little bit to find on top of the normal main path. Have Sonic control well but have weight, cap the speed he can gain from momentum if you have to or just give an exponential decay to the speed gain so it doesn't reach uncontrollable levels from just moving around the stages.

I wouldn't mind something another story that was radical for the sake of being radical again. I feel like that fit the whole 90s thing Sonic was going for as a character and design. I think it would work too since there seems to be a lot of nostalgia for the 90s lately.

I'd mostly like Sonic Team to stop focusing on all the stigmas that the fanbase has been spewing for over a decade and stay focused on making an cohesive enjoyable experience for the player. Friends aren't problem but they shouldn't get in the way of the gameplay. Being "edgy" isn't a problem but it shouldn't be the whole gimmick/selling point of a game. Etc.
They also need to give themselves enough time to complete what they want to do on top of having a scope for what they want to do.

One idea I had for a small fanfic was that FFs and SSs get stranded onto another Mobius and have to be broken up by their version of Team Sonic. That version of Sonic was more lazy then Boom, Knuckles was trying to be a rapper but kept making shitty mixtapes and Tails was basically Scourge in fox form and with more brains.
It's easy to see why I never wrote this though and I'm pretty sure some of you remember what the original idea was.

This is embarassing. Penders is too detailed on shit that doesn't matter, and too vague on shit that should matter. Simplicity is often key in creating good characters at first. Start simple, and get more complex as the story progresses. That's why people like the FFs, or Batman, or really a lot of characters. At their core, they're very simple, clearly defined characters, and their complexity arises from the story, their actions, and their characterization. None of that is present with Penders' version of Lara-Su, or any of his characters

I'm basically a Sonic virgin. A while ago I bought Generations on Steam, loved it, and am about to finish all achievements and S-Ranks.

So I guess I'm asking what other good Sonic games are on Steam. Should I start 1/2/3 or go straight to SA1/2? Are there any hidden gems I should get? Any shitty ports I need to avoid?

Start with 1/2/3&K (If Steam only has 3, emulate 3&K as one game. This is important). Then play SA1/2. Someone uploaded a Heroes ISO in the general a while back, but I can't find it. Play that only if you're curious. As for other things to play that you can on PC. Advance 1-3 should be emulated, and finally emulate Colors. You should be good there

The CD port is amazing.
1, 2, and 3&K should be emulated but if you don't want to the collection that has them on Steam is fine.
Every port of SA1 is a varying degree of awful and the Steam version is one of the worse ones. I think someone somewhere had a MEGA of the 2005 PC release but I forgot to save the link for times like this. The Steam SA2 is ok as far as I could tell.
I will warn you. The Adventure games aren't as consistently good as Gens and their age shows and aren't nearly as good as 2 or 3&K.

Emulate 1 & 2 (or buy/emulate the mobile remasters), emulate 3&K, and buy CD which is the remastered version.

I've heard that the steam port of SA1 isn't very good, but I haven't had much issue with it. SA2's port is fine for me.

Pirate Heroes for PC (it's not on steam) or emulate the Gamecube version.

Emulate Colors.

Lost World's port is an odd case, but you could give it a shot or pirate it.

The only proper Sonic games on Steam are CD, Generations, both Sonic 4 episodes, and the two All-Stars Racing games. Everything else is either literally an emulation (all the classic games), or a bad port (the Adventure games, Lost World).

Which consoles do you already have? Usually the best bet is to get whichever Sonic games are for those consoles, if any, along with emulating the classic games.

I think this is more accurate: you accept a job to write about someone else's property, one in which you hold no inherent interest. You do so understanding that it's considered work for hire. Only instead of writing about the material you're supposed to be promoting, you use it as a platform for your own sci-fi universe because you know you can't get it published any other way, all while ignoring or replacing the focal cast with your own uninspired and underdeveloped concepts. When someone finally tightens the leash, you decide to simply cut your losses and leave, only to find that said licensed material is the only reason anyone knows your name, and after several unprofitable years, you look for loopholes so as to grasp at whatever money you can while creating a grand total of three comic pages over the course of several years and a handful of merchandise no one will buy, all while spitefully debasing the work of anyone who dared to have success after you left.
