People freak the fuck out because Crit and Det are now worth like 0.15 of a main stat instead of 0.3 (even though you're getting twice as many of each on every piece of gear so there's no practical difference). Piety still only gives like 6.5 MP per point of Piety, when your MP pool has more than doubled and the MP cost of spells have more than tripled. It's entirely comparable to what happened to Crit and Det.

Piety deflated less because Mana per fight went up, as long as mana per spell in stone 3/Broil. Required healer DPS also went up. Having a lower ilvl compared to base level also means that random piety gear isnt enough to cover the spell costs like it was in FCoB.

Mana is more important than ever in alex. The stat itself has gone down minimally but the importance has gone up, which balances it out.

There is no fight in this game where you can intentionally not go oom if you try. Limiting your piety is just limiting your DPS/Healing/Raising capabilities for minor increases in crit/det. You only lose 2% crit rate for going main stat piety compared to main stat crit.

Piety so that you can cast more DPS spells is great - IF the limiting factor on how much DPS you can push is how much MP you have, and not how many GCDs you have where it's actually safe for you to drop into Cleric Stance and DPS instead of healing.

The problem is, it is frequently not the case that you are limited by MP. If you're solo-healing a fight, especially when you're undergeared, then playing an effective WHM essentially means mapping out the entire fight script, GCD by GCD, and figuring out exactly what's going to happen to who, and when, and devising a routine that lets you cover all of the damage - you can only DPS when there's a window of 5 or more seconds where you don't need to be healing, which often means that your DPS needs to be dealt in a specific X GCDs where you're actually free.

(Obviously you get more freedom and your routine gets less strict as you and the rest of your party get stronger gear, so as you begin to overgear a fight you will naturally tend toward being Piety-limited, but it's not the case during progression where it matters most.)


Generally speaking, the bottleneck to healer DPS in A1S and A3S (other than Digititis) tends to be the number of GCDs where you're free to DPS, which means that Crit/Det/SpS will help you out more, and the bottleneck to healer DPS in A2S and A4S tends to be MP, in which case Piety stomps all over the others.

The thing about getting locked into GCDs is that not only does mana increase the amount of DPS you can do, but also the amount of healing you can do. You are able to throw out extra med2/cure2/adlos just due to the amount of extra mana you have, which in turn increases your healing. 2 cure 2s is equal to 3 cure 1s, which effectively saves you a gcd every time.

That's true; Piety can be used as a makeshift boost to potency by spending extra MP on more powerful spells. But the frequency with which you can do that based on Piety is not necessarily much different from the increase in effectiveness you get from the other stats.

Just to pull some semi-reasonable napkin math numbers out of the air:

100 Piety will give you roughly 650 more max MP, which means that you'll gain an extra 260 MP every minute through natural regeneration, and an extra 65 MP every 90s through Assize. So over a three-minute period, you get 910 extra MP (you also get the initial 650, but that's a one-time bonus so its usefulness depends on the length of the fight).
To turn Piety into potency, let's say that you free up an extra GCD by casting a Cure II instead of a Cure, and then you throw in an extra Stone III. 442 MP going from Cure to Cure II, 530 MP casting Stone = 972 MP. So you're at a slight overall loss by doing it that way.

Now compare that to an extra 100 Determination. That's going to be the equivalent of somewhere in the area of 14-16 Mind, which is in the ballpark of 1.5 points of Weapon Damage. Not only is that a (small but) noticeable boost to your overall healing/damage, but it's conceivable that over the course of three minutes, that increase in power could result in adding up to a GCD where you no longer have to cast Cure (+442 MP) which gives you time to lob a Stone 3 (-530 MP), for fairly similar results to what you gained via Piety.

Don't get me wrong, Piety is a really nice secondary stat to go for. The liquidity of the MP is really nice, and it leaves you with a lot of on-demand versatility relative to the other stats. But it's not necessarily not the ONLY good choice, and the overall effectiveness of the other stats is likely to amount to something pretty similar to what you'd get through Piety. Which you prefer is largely that - a preference.

The problem with comparing det to piety is that piety has more options than det does, raising being a key factor. Raid content does not go 100% as planned, if it did people wouldnt be stuck on fights. Peity opens up the ability to be more gracious with your mana than det would, especially because that extra det does not normally do much since overhealing is a factor that is included. Anytime you would overheal by a minimal amount pretty much everything that went into det gets wasted. Piety, as long as you can spend it all, which you can, is a greater factor to a fight because it can contribute more when things go wrong. The minimal amount of det you gain, or crit, or spell speed, will never amount to fixing situations that shouldnt have happened in the first place. Like seriously 150 crit is somewhere in the range of 2% crit, its very minimal.

Why is it every time I enter the vault as a tank the healer can't heal? Is it because I'm only defense 1100 defense?

The game has no punishment for dying and there's nothing ingame that really forces people to learn their classes. I'm saying this because out of 7 fucking runs I've done today only 3 of which have been beaten due to the healer just letting everyone die no matter the boss.

Yes they do I've encountered enough people playing dark souls1 and 2 to get a pretty good idea that there are a ton of people that just skate through games with cheats on to feel good about themselves.

At first I figured it was because I'm invading so I was the cause they just didn't want to deal with my bullshit but after awhile it's rather obvious they just suck at the game and without infinite health on they just die all of the time. What really sealed it for me was when I started encountering people using infinite health and still summoning people for boss fights.

I've also encountered it in games like Borderlands 2 during coop just using impossible guns while declaring loudly that all of the loot sucks and that their totally not hacked gear is legit.

Oh god, I've invaded a ton in that game and fought a lot of people cheating but never had THAT one happen.

The best was when you would be fighting someone legitimately, and then when they were almost dead they'd just throw on their infinite health cheat right before you killed them. It was like watching somebody's spirit break and them admitting that there was only one way they were going to win.

When I was levelling my healers, I felt no changes to how they played on a fundamental level. The only thing that changed was the enemies being scaled appropriately as you progress, and the only variables that add to it were the individual performances of every other party member being brought together for a cooperative adventure. If the tank pulled small or rotated cooldowns effectively, I had more time to DPS. If DPS was good, I hardly had to throw out healing spells aside from a Regen and a spell to top off the tank when the last enemy in a pull dies.

It's not that healers got hit with a ninja nerf. It's just people not being ready and attentive to what's going on. As long as I paid attention, I could keep everyone alive and find moments to squeeze in DPS, even in dungeons like The Vault or the Great Gubal Library. I think SE is nerfing the content because they want to make it easier for those who are lacking awareness and adaptability, which I consider to be rudimentary skills anyone DFing content with randoms should have.

Speaking of the Souls games, I only used exploits like Stockpile Thomas duping and the Dragon Head Stone glitch to help make builds. Being a console- and questionable moralfag, the only reasons I used those exploits was so I could make PvP builds and throw myself into the duelling scene head-first. That's pretty much it. Hell, in Dark Souls all you need to make a decent PvP build is what kind of character you want to make and know how to get what you need to make it a reality. The Dragon Head Stone glitch, if you delete the patches just so you can pull it off, is only good for getting as many souls as you need to get to SL120 and costs to cover upgrading the gear you want to get.
