Is there a good write up for how drops work?

I'm at 260 light and trying to do heroic strikes, but it's just not going well. The other 260-something people I get paired with keep getting slaughtered. I'm not exactly thriving either.

What's the highest armor/damage I can get from non-heroic content? Would it be better to do the non-heroic strike playlist or level 40 story/level 41 heroics? Would the (random) punctuated drops from PvP be a better bet?

Also, what does the whole "no level bonus" thing mean in PvP? As in 1-40, you're equal, but that can't account for class bonuses, right? But I'm to assume two people, one with a 200 damage auto rifle and the other with 300, will do the same damage? Minus any bonuses on the gun itself? In other words, an exotic will preform the same as a green gun in terms of damage output but differ because of their nodes?

heroics are only good for marks and the one legendary engram, do normal vanguards. 3-5 blues per run usually, can decode up to 300ish light iirc (got to 298 myself from mostly strike farming). You will have to run the raid for gear once you get around there since blues simply can't go high enough. aim to get a good legendary in every spot and then just infuse your blues. 3oCs will give you exotic engrams which you can decode after hitting 300 for a chance at them coming out as 310s, which will help.

And yes, as far as PvP guns will do the same base damage but the exotic will have an advantage just from the perks that come with it.

farm vanguards for engrams, they can steadily raise you to 280-290 easily. as far as marks go, vanguard ghost is the only armor worth getting there. consider the vendor 1kys as well. LL is the only thing you need to care about until you're ~290, then get decent rolls on your gear and start raiding.

Yea dude you need to get purple armor, then with that you start to infuse high level blue armor into it raising you light level. Armor and weapons will drop from Vanguard/Faction/Crucible packages so only really spend your marks on infusing and any vendor armor with rolls you like.

In all honesty, I'd say 5 has better maps, but 4 has better gunplay. Bloom/recoil is almost non-existent in 5 so you can spam weapons to your hearts desire without being punished. TTK feels a lot lower because of this.

Not regenerating while sprinting is a nice touch over 4, but completely negated by the dumb shit like literally having angel of light and a 1HK death from above titan slam too. Dezooming when flinching/being hit is a nice return, but fucks up the point in zooming because like I said before, the accuracy is already so high and spam fire is much more rewarding that zooming is nearly pointless.

People are going full placebo at the moment with how good they think it is after 4 basically desensitised them to a lot of the current changes. I don't see it lasting as long as 2, 3 or even Reach. It may outlast 4, but that's because they're staggering content to keep it alive.

I noticed something. Unless you get right up in their faces, it will take down only 99% of someone's health. They'll survive a lot of times when I use it.

I'm telling you, just one more shotgun range nerf, and shotguns will be tolerable.

Really though it's Bungie's fault for making conspiracy theory a thing. If they just stopped making high impact high range shotguns it would be a lot better for the meta. The impact is as much a contributing factor as the range is.
