>we decided to address the problems of Enemy Unknown by not actually addressing them and just making ayys assault your base more often than a single scripted mission at a set in-game date

why not bring back the random stitched-together environments of oldcom

why not make the early game more diverse and actually balance perks against eachother so every round isn't so cookie-cutter

why not make a good game

Lost EU Maps
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/575/?
>Allows playing the 4 EU maps which are not avaliable in EWI:
>URB_Museum, URB_Museum_Euro, URB_Demolition, URB_GasStation

Long War- Customize the Air Game
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/608/?
>you can customize the stats for the Interceptor, the Firestorm, every single weapon, UFO, and foundry project related to the Air Game.
>You can also modify critical hits, specifically the minimum crit chance, the maximum crit chance, and the critical hit multiplier.

Relevant Information
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/623/?
>Long War is often criticized for being opaque and having a significant proportion of important information regarding game mechanics and detailed stats located outside of the game itself (i.e. DGC.ini, the wiki, and the Nexus forums).
>However, the strategic UI is filled with flavour text that, while nice to read, is extremely vague and virtually useless to the player.
>This mod aims to repurpose the space in order to add information that is precise, assists player decisions, and reduces the need to ALT-TAB out of the game to check things.

Long War Mod Manager
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/620/?
>This utility simplifies the installation and removal of Long War mods and can be used as a replacement for PatcherGUI. It also supports some new mod file extensions that allow for the automatic updating of configuration files.
>This can be used to automatically define keyboard commands, add second wave options, or anything else that involves adding lines to a config file.
>>
>>121215912

Long War Customize Unique Soldier Stats
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/606/?
>You can alter the HP, Will, Aim, and Mobility of all the unique soldiers, and if they get a bonus perk (Van Doorn/Zhang), well, you can edit that too.
>This mod is compatible with eclipse666's Patrick - The Plumber - Carlock (for Long War) modification.

Additional Species
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/619/?
>Show all UFO species in Hyperwave Relay info screen.

Virtual Reality Training (for Long War)
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/569/?
>Healthy and non-fatigued soldiers earn XP every day while at the base. Extra XP can be earned by building the Officer Training School and purchasing officer upgrades. Make those rookies useful at last!

Campaign Summary
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/626/?
>Campaign Summary adds a new menu option to the Situation Room allowing you to view a timeline of major strategic events over your entire campaign.
>It provides high level information about the events and displays an up-to-date world map showing the status of the world including panic levels, satellite coverage, withdrawn countries, and mission info.

Unhealable Red Fog
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/629/?
>With this mod SW Red Fog penalties such as aim and mobility will last until the end of the mission and cannot be healed by medkits, sodlier will penalties remain healable.

All Perks Per Rank
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/631/?
>Gives you all perks in a rank when you choose a perk. You will gain the bonus stats (will, aim, etc) of the chosen perk, but not the other perks. Works with 1, 2, or 3 perks per rank, and in every version of Long War I've tested it on.

Floater Autopsy Tweak
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/632/?
>Changes the placement of the Floater Autopsy so it comes after Xenogenetics instead of after Alien Biocybernetics, while simultaneously making it a pre-req for Alien Biocybernetics
>>
>>121216076

Arc Thrower Range
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/630/?
>Allows you to adjust Arc Thrower range through ini files.
>After installation, go the "Weapons=..." line for the Arc Thrower in DefaultGameCore.ini (by default, it's like 1947, or 1974 if you use the pistol-slot version). Change the iRange variable to something you like.

DR Chipping (for Long War)
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/628/?
>DR Chipping is a minor mechanics tweak that allows DR to be reduced through repeated hits. It is fully compatible with Long War and integrates seamlessly into existing campaigns. It does not overhaul balance, perk, or item stats in any way, it simply adds a new mechanic to the tactical game.

UFO Interception Tweak
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/634/?
>This is an attempt to lessen the impact of "bad luck" RNG during UFO interceptions by doubling the interception time and halving all damage. This prevents your interceptors from getting destroyed by one or two unlucky shots and also makes aborting at low HP a little less risky.
>The dodge, aim and tracking modules have their effects doubled as well. The chance to destroy a UFO has also been adjusted to take into account the halving of damage.

Enhanced Soldier Customization (for Long War)
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/607/?
>This mod allows you to change your soldier's head size, body size and voice pitch from the soldier customisation screen. The range of available skin colours has also been greatly increased - you're no longer limited to skin tones.
>SHIV body size, weapon size and colour can be customised too!
>>

Bugfixes for bonus will and psi
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/642/?
>Instances where psi panic would show 100% but still fail.
>Killing an alien who has mind controlled a soldier will not give that soldier the fallen comrade debuff and should fix the bug with 0 will hopefully.
>If an alien dies while being mind controlled, it will not apply the fallen comrade debuff the the rest of the squad and it will not count as a dead squad member for the xp bonus or prevent 'So others may live' from applying.
>Lots of instances where the bonus will from Neural damping, Combat drugs, Legio Patria Nostra, Esprit de corps and penalties from fallen comrade and battle fatigue didn't apply.
>Psi panic had a fixed duration of 2 turn irregardless of how many turns of panic it rolled. Fixed so duration is the same as nr of panic turns.
>If you target a unit that has neural dampning with psi panic it will show 0% chance to hit.
>Fixed so aliens get the same -35 penalty when using mind control as xcom.

>>121226297
Overwatch does not trigger on the first tile of movement. This means If someone enters the edge of you LOS they won't get shot at.

Or if an ayyy is overwatching someone, you could move them one square in any direction and they wouldn't get shot at.

This does not include moving diagonally

Hi I'm the nice /v/poster, I'm kind of stubborn so bear with me, I'm bad at strategy games, and I really hate game bugs. Xcom is a strategy game full of bugs. I love suffering. I refuse to have the bugs fixed and gameplay balanced by a mod, because I love suffering.
I also love sharing pain, so I'll just post here about things I suffer from.
Please respond only if you like suffering too. I really like this game, because it makes me suffer.
>>
>>121233365

i don't want to add fuel to the shitposting fire, but yes the dashing bonus does not work in vanilla. it's only fixed in a recent LW patch.

That doesn't mean it works, it's a Firaxis game.

Civ5 had a MP trade exploit that took 2 lines of code to fix, people posted the fix on their forums and it still took them 4 years to finally patch it.

>All Perks Per Rank
How does this mod works? Does it means i can choose Squadsight in a level and then Snapshot in another? And i can ignore ranks of two shitty perks like Dense Smoke - Combat Drugs to pick revive and suppresion for a support?
>>
>>121240901

nope, instead of choosing one perk per rank and making a specific build it would just give you all at once. Like for example the Scout choice at TSGT between Concealment/In The Zone/Hit and Run. Normally you'd have to select one but with the mod it would give you all of them.
>>
>>121241378
oh that's babby bullshit

>>
>>121241546
>babby bullshit

I know we're all such massive scrubs that we need to install LW (which everybody agrees is basically ultra-casual mode and doesn't increase difficulty in the slightest ever) to get past the first mission on classic.

And everyone knows that EW is the pinnacle of skill-based gameplay (which is why you always complain about nothing ever mattering in the tactical gameplay) surpassing even Dark Souls. But your apparent lack of reading comprehension should be no reason to give up now. It might work with vanilla! Keep trying. For us. Please.
>>
>>121241957
>getting all the perks and not having to choose between them doesn't make it babby bullshit

false-flagging as an LW Babby to disparage that mod, or genuinely bad at games and trying to cover for it despite downloading actual easy mode mods? probably the latter
>>
>overwatch just literally does nothing now
this game seems to degrade the more I play it
>>
>>121242037

so, what's the difference between getting all perks at level-up in vanilla and getting all perks at level-up in long war?

besides, nobody said it had to be downloaded, just like the other thousand easy-mode mods. It's there to be added in the pastebin if someone wants it.

holy shit are you retarded

no one was talking about LW, anon said something about "All Perks Per Rank"

i.e. get ALL PERKS

or is LW indeed a casualization mod that gives you all the perks per rank so you don't even have to choose builds and can just have everything?
>>
>>121242374
Can you read at all? I didn't wanted a mod to get all perks at the same time, i wanted a mod that let me skip perks i dont want from a rank so i could have two or three from another. Like skipping Dense Smoke and Combat Drugs in vanilla for suppression

giving you all the perks at once regardless if it's in LW or Vanilla. sorry if i hurt your babby feelings
>>
>>121242514
>no one was talking about LW

are you sure? the description of the mod states "You will gain the bonus stats (will, aim, etc) of the chosen perk". Does that happen in vanilla?

And then it goes on to say "Works with 1, 2, or 3 perks per rank, and in every version of Long War I've tested it on."

finally, "Install with PatcherGui or LW Mod Manager"

if you had read the description of the mod at all it would have been obvious. It might actually work with vanilla. Have you even tried it?
>>
>>121242607

Alright here's in clear english for you:
"All Perks per Rank" might also means "you can choose all perks in a rank", not only "you will automatically gain all the perks in a rank", which is what that anon asked for.

Also, "you are a gigantic moron".

Part of the game's design is the compromises you make. It'd be fucking broken if you could take ITZ and DT on a sniper. In LW you can even have snapshot and squadsight on the same guy, but at the cost of two other powerful perks.
>>
>>121253519
What do you mean? They get the one HP from being stabilized, but I don't think they get more health after being revived. I don't take revive on medics though.
>>
>>121253728
>Part of the game's design is the compromises you make

I'm not asking for an extra point here, you got me wrong. I'd still compromise a point in another skill to have revive and suppression in the same guy. and you wouldn't be able to have double tap and ITZ on the same guy because it's the last tier skill and you wouldn't have any more points after choosing one of them
>>
>>121253835
Oh, I see what you mean. You want to be able to go back and pick a perk you missed earlier, in lieu of the perks at whatever tier.
>>
>>121253829
I meant that Regen Biofield "heals" the critically wounded soldier every turn, giving them 1 HP in their healthbar back. They're still critically wounded tho. While under the effect of regen biofield it seems like they can't die either

I was wondering if this "healed" hp from regen biofield would stay after being revived

That's why I'm worried about those maps. The patrols, Escalation Mod or not, may get a little too close from each other and you don't have that much of a cover to begin with.
>>
>>
>>121244607
Congratulations. You've won XCOM.

No, really. This what we've been saving all along - Early game is absolutely the hardest part, and once you get beam lasers and carapace armor, the game is basically over, and the rest is just a formality. With an alien base assault soon, your panic troubles will be gone, and titan armor and plasma weapons will soon follow.

This is why we play Long War. The early game is easier, yes, but alien research means that aliens start strong and get strong, not just with more aim, HP, defense, and DR, but also gaining additional perks. It swaps out vanilla's reverse difficulty curve for a more standard one.
>>
>>121263829
Long war early game still has its pitfalls, ballistic weapons are even worse now with DR, annoying drones, and sectoids abuse their psi bullshit more.
>>
>>121264108
Oh certainly. Easier does not mean easy.
>>
>>121264108
yeah too bad you have 6 squaddies with tons of new tech and skills to fight these still laughable weak sectoids and you even have some new base abilities that makes the game even more broken like giving you tactical rigging right out of the bat if you pick stuff like Jungle Scouts as a starting bonus

Mid to End game Long War is hell. No comparison with Vanilla. But early game LW is way easier than Classic and Impossible, no dancing around it
>>
>>121264531
6 squaddies who can't hit shit, while every pod is 5-7 sectoids mind merging, fraying and panicking all of your guys while taking potshots from upgraded low cover. It's easier, but not easy.
>>
What perk should I pick for MSGT Marauder? Most of the other perks are defensive, but run n gun seems more fun than absorption fields.

The only time I move slow is during terror missions (because fuck civilians) or during missions in which time is not of the essense, and even then the mobility of your soldiers is important

Besides, Jungle Scout is shitty in the long run. It's just a fun change of pace at the start.

Javelins
They are great against 7+ alien pods in general, because they rarely cluster.
HEAT also makes them do a ton of single target damage, mainly on sectopods.
I always go for heavy psionics on them;
Mind Fray
Psi Panic
So they get all around useful.
They scale slowly and pretty useless early game, but once you get hold of a blaster launcher and psi panic, they will be the shining star of the squad.

Why bio-tanks are shit in LW:
MECs have 40% more Armor HP.
Assault: ~21
Goliath: ~49
MECs can get 5.5 innate DR
Bio can only get 4(+1 if psi screen)innate DR

The strength of bio comes from being in cover. (+2.5DR in full cover)
Cover means defense, which is bad if you want the aliens to shoot your tank.(Fortiores una gives +1 but hunkering is just flat out retarded unless aliens can't see or move to see anyone else but the tank)

Oh and I didn't even mention absorption fields(which is still good after nerfs)
If anyone has any point for using biotanks, pls tell
>>
>>121344007
Or you could just try not to get hit in the first place instead of relying on tanks like it's some kind of RPG.
>>
>>121345095
Having a tank is the way to not get hit for the other 7 soldiers.
>>
>>121343706

>>
>>121345095
You can't play completely out of sight unless you cheese with 3 engineers and 5 snipers every mission.

I do often have that kind of firepower, but sometimes you get really nasty pod placements. Yesterday I was doing a base assault and opened the last big holodoor to be greeted by a gunstar, thin men and a dreadnaught. The next turn four muton elites and an ethereal showed up. Most of my team had bad angles on the discs and they fired on activation. I only survived because my goliath, marauder and bio tank were able to flame the mutons and lure the discs into range of my gunners.

>>
>>121371104
Yeah, but how much health does the cocoon have? Probably your gonna be fighting a dug in advent troopers, send your ranger out for a flank, then blam, unborrowed chryssalid pops up and kills him.

Now you fighting ADVENT, and lid, while trying to destroy the cocoon.

In optimal situations lids are never that threatening, they are all about taking a bad situation and making it into a nightmare. While one alien might have critted your soldier and killed him when you screwed up, lids can lead to situations where you either squadwipe or bail. Don't forget they still apply acid, and now if a soldier dies from acid they still cocoon.

You're really gonna read deeply into irrelevant shit?

Saying a big top heavy suit of armor is a rip off of big daddy is the equivalent to saying bioshock ripped off warhammer or starcraft because it has those things.

Everyone knows Bioshock is massively ripped off from System Shock in gameplay, themes etc. That's not even a bad thing, considering both have shit gameplay and the basic gameplay isn't what makes System Shock good.

How is gameplay in either bioshock or system shock bad? I mean, I could see people calling it mediocre, but nothing about it is done poorly. (Besides the hacking minigames)

the fuck senpai

You should have your base like this:
2x3 block for satellites (3 uplink 3 nexus)
2x3 block for workshops (repairbay, foundry, workshops)
2x2 block for labs (gene, psi, 2 labs)
2x2 block for energy (eventually will be 4 elerium generators)

Now the only tricky part is the energy generators. You should go for the steam vents and then pick whatever location (preferably next to a steam vent) and make your 2x2 block there, eventually removing the other steam generators.

The open spaces that remain should be filled with other necesaties like Ayy Prison, Officer Training, Gollop Chamber and Hyperlink

The way you placed your workshops is kinda wasteful.

I had forgotten about the hard-coded asinine key bindings that are 2 pages long and the first phase of the game in which you and your enemies plink hopelessly (think 10% hit chance, if that) at each other with pistols.

>>
>>121427816
Way too punishing in my opinion. You already get smacked with fatigue and big wound times. Now getting shot not only gives the wounds, but has a good chance of breaking your equipment. So now you have a soldier you can't take to the next mission and gear that might not be fixed by next mission. Which means you now field an inferior squad with inferior equipment, increasing the chance someone else will get wounded ans break their stuff.

It doesn't add an interesting mechanics as far as im concerned.

>>121429056
Oh, and I know I have too few interceptors up right now. I recently placed a few in europe after I liberated france to cover the satellite, and I'm building a couple firestorms and weapons.

What's the best starting bonus in LW? France with the 40% more frequent requests?
>>
>>121539641
That seems to be the strongest strategic bonus.
>>
>>121539641
Very strong strategically but being in the same continent as Russia means you're better off getting another Continent Bonus.

Cadre is really good on both the Tactical and Strategic layers. The best bonus for taking on early game Large Landed UFOs.

Wealthy Benefactor is probably the most versatile for the Strategic Layer. You can buy more interceptors to secure the early air game, get early satellites going, buy SHIVs to hold off Fatigue Spirals, and still have a little money left over.

If you're going Impossible, the +1 Health bonus is probably the better Tactical benefit to help avoid unlucky oneshots early game. Anything lower would benefit more from +1 Mobility.

So XCOM2 will have missions that will allow you to increase the disapproval for the aliens regime in different countries and eventually start a revolution in them, right?
Because that would be satisfying as fuck after all the times the ayyliens have made council nations defect from me.

>XCOM 2 is out

>manual workers allows you to get more alien parts

Ok, I've got a HnR, DT, RF Sniper - is there a way to get 5 shots in a turn? Because I'm not sure if RF works with HnR or Double Tap
>>
>>121610064
Rapid Fire will work with Hnr obviously, but definitely not with double tap, so I don't think it will work. I can't see you getting past three shot even with those perks, because rapid fire will end your turn, and as soon as double tap activates, you can't rapid fire. At least I think so.
>>
>>121367813
This alien is kinda weird, unlike all the other species it never showed up in EU.

It isn't a human used inside there, it is an actual new alien species right?

Not a big deal, its just kind of weird the aliens bringing an entirely new race which they didn't create from scratch in.
(Also kind of weird they have this big mothertrucker AND the AdMECs, goddamit what do Xcom get thats big and stompy?)
>>
>>121610316
In my last mission, I double tapped and then it said I got a HnR (but I was out of ammo) - so mayybe you could double tap and then rapid fire if it lets you

Guess there is only way to find out
>>
>>121610064
I don't think you can get 5 shots without ITZ. If the sniper has snapshot or a strike rifle you can give them light em up instead of double tap for four shots in one turn. You'll have to install the HNR+LEU mod from the nexus first.

Infiltration missions man, they'll get ya. You can't really stop them unless you shoot down the battleship, or get some of the early scouting craft that generate the mission. At least that's what it sounds like.

Outsiders are replaced by Sectoid Commanders first, and then after the Overseer is shot down Ethereals replace those. Commanders stick around in other pod types, though.
>>
>>121624230
No, if you abort the mission, they will still leave the council. Just saying if you fell you aren't equipped to the the mission, you can always check it out first and then abort. You could end up getting map favorable to snipers and pull out a win, or you might just evaluate the situation and decide to retreat.

Just saying you can go into the mission with the attitude that you don't have to commit. The penalties are pretty bad though, the country instantly leaves and all countries on the continent get +20 panic.

It's not even really micro, it just encourages rotation throughout your roster. Once you get soldiers to the highest ranks you can keep them rested up for large landeds or terror missions. Then use your lower ranks in other easier missions to get even more ranks. That's a lot of fun in my opinion.
>>
>>121653508
Not for me. I never play for long, so I mostly play one mission at a time. And I don't feel like going through my roster to check which soldiers I levelled and which are still rookies.
>>
>>121654869
If you don't play for long then Long War might not be good for you. Some missions can take an hour to complete, in vanilla there is only one that could really take more than a half hour.

This game was way better when it was kill-or-be-killed shit where you activate a pod and then either wipe it or get wiped. Firefights in this game are Not Fun and a tactically bad option 100% of the time. how do I make this game fun now that everything has like 20 hp and there's no way to stick and move while falling back like in oldschool xcom

like, even if everyone makes their shots, there's just too much HP to take out in one turn to not have someone get crit through a wall and killed the next turn
>>
>>121664634
Only the first two months in vanilla are supposed to be difficult, I can't imagine that situation you're describing happening there. What kind of armor and weapons do you have? Are you constantly replacing soldiers and lacking max-rankers?

Like I was gonna laugh at you for needing to savescum anything in the base assault because the game is such a walk in the park after floaters but then you're genuinely struggling so its going against everything I know about vanilla, namely that it has got a sick difficulty curve that starts off high and crashes into the ground ten missions in.

Abduction after the base assault? Shouldn't you have everything covered in sats by now?

First month = first uplink built
Second month = second uplink built
Third month = entire world covered
is how it goes IIRC. If my memory is faulty, it takes four months at worst.

Also, you can only do a base assault after you do the capture and outsider research. Since you can delay that research forever and it doesn't give you any benefits beyond advancing the storyline, you should have everything you need already researched..

>>121665784
>that's not "it's hard", it's "that animation was being troublesome"
