As an employed adult, I have absolutely NO problems shelling out $20 every 4 months or so to continue enjoying what is literally the only game I've played in the last year. Especially if the quality of new content continues to be on the level that TTK established.

Hey guys, a couple of the networking guys from Bungie came to my school recently and did a tech talk, here's the highlights

- their servers run on a Microsoft stack (C#/.NET)
- they push server updates about once a week
- they only have one datacenter and it's in vegas
- they decided to put it in vegas because during the days of Halo, any time you matchmade the console would send latency and IP info back to the servers, which they used to create nifty 3D "ball of yarn" global maps of who has a good connection to who, and vegas was both fairly disaster-proof and had a good connection to most of the world
- the most abysmal connections in terms of latency are between aus and the eu
- the director went through about 20 redesigns, ended up fairly close to the original design, and the design wasn't influenced much by the story
- I saw a hilarious pre-production titan walking animation with a massive hip swing and broken elbows
- bungie archives all internal presentations on what they call "tiger university", so employees can watch them later (so if you get hired there you could fairly easily relive all of Destiny's dev history)
- there was a really neat picture of how all their servers were connected (mostly blurred, sadly), but something really cool is that, as far as the game is concerned, your phone/browser is literally another game client, just like your console and can in theory do everything the console can. however, they disallowed "destructive" actions from the app, since phones tend to be less secure than consoles, which is why you can't dismantle things or buy things from the app/website. Similarly, the only reason weapon switching isn't possible from the app while you're playing the game is because it could pretty easily give people a competitive advantage.

Also, one of the guys was the guy that invented the Destiny announcement ARG, the one where a bunch of people had to all be looking at the website at the same time to unmask the image.

Yeah, I think that was pretty obvious when they first annouced the app.

Weapon swapping on the fly would be too good. People would have scripts to allow them to equip loadouts super fast. Imagine somebody blasting you with a MIDA one second and then using the UR the next.

Games are fun and all but I've always felt that the community, the friends you interacted with, made the experience. And God, does it hurt watching a community or a group of friends drift away. I've been through two serious raiding guilds in World of Warcraft. Multi year engagements. I joined Warbros as soon as it was possible and made friends with the core Warbros that stayed despite all the bullshit DE threw at us. At the end of the day, we all drift away and dwelling on it accomplishes nothing but we had our good times.

I can't help but dread the day that /dg/ bumps get slower and slower until threads die far from post limit. Until no one really bothers making new /dg/ threads. Or worse, /dg/ survives until the end of Destiny but no one you recognize is in the thread anymore. You know, a lot of you people are annoying shitters that care more for thread drama than the actual game but a good chunk of you guys aren't. I just want to say thanks. I can safely say that the majority of my experience on /dg/ has been positive and I hope you all lead safe, wonderful lives.

I actually really like rumble and inferno clash. Inferno rumble just sounds awful though. Most of the fun in rumble is watching the radar to play for favorable engagements when you have people on every side. Inferno is just going to lead to getting shot in the back all the fucking time because the game spawns you in stupid ass places.
