Alright, I've picked up and had to drop nipponese several times throughout life but for once I'm going to stick with it. I haven't played a decent otome strategy game ever since Kogado dropped the ball, so looking forward to this (although it's confirmed to be another series and that turned out awkward for Clover Library)

What's interesting to me is that they're working on this alongside the Koutarichou series, which would imply they have enough manpower to establish two production lines. I'd written MIO off after the looong period of silence after Souten no Kanata, but I guess the Asaki revival and Koutarichou were received well enough to net them some $$$. This makes me happy, since I love this series, but it tends to get buried under whatever the major publishers are pushing at the moment.

It hurts to see how many in this general don't like Norn9, even if it's probably true that C:R is better.

I'm probably not a good judge since I still haven't played 4 routes but whatever.
The length seems is about the same in every route. Seems pretty normal length to me. Not overly long, but also not super short.
The amount of how often a character appears in routes of other boys differs though. Like, Kakeru who is sort of the leader and Heishi, the genki and pure type, show up pretty often. But you almost never see the hikki (obviously) and the tsundere.

The endings are rather disappointing if you care for the story, and some give more closure than others. Though they're all really good in a romantic way.

I think the great parts about this game are the romance, the characters and the interactions between them. There is also almost no cut-and-paste, and they give you the option to skip the small part that is. But the story is a bit weak, and there's some stupid drama in the routes(though it's aways short).
I personally especially like the character interactions. The best part is probably that you'll see the other heroines in all routes, like them being worried about you, helping you, stuff like that. There's no stupid drama between the girls, and it's cute to see how they're also worried about their boy. Also, the boy the other MCs are going for is changing each route so there is no kanon boy for anyone.

I hope I convinced at least one person to buy Norn9. It's a nice game.

What the fuck was that mess.

I can understand his reasons and everything when it's explained but the only thing that struck me as "bad writing" was how easily Cardia succumbed to her fate of being killed by him, even before she got the facts of why he was trying to kill her. And so early in the route too, when they've barely even spoken before in the damn common route.

It just left a bad vibe with me, it was as if she had Stockholm syndrome which even that wouldn't make any sense since it takes a far longer amount of time for Stockholm syndrome to develop. In my opinion I feel as if the true route ending should've been Cardia stabs herself to death on the bridge. It would've made far more sense than for Omnibus to all of a sudden not give a single shit about her previous beliefs of "fate cannot be changed" (which is retarded all in all, but whatever), and just decide to let the two of them live. What an entire let down this route was. Here's to hoping Frankenstein's route is a whole lot better.

I did Sakuya's route first so that scary glimpse of his true personality near Sakuya's route made me wary of doing Shigure's route. It really comes tumbling down after doing Akito's route with the reveal that Rin's parents were dead and you're left with the realization that Shigure's been hiding that shit all along with the classy care packages/letters if you think back on the first chapter. I'm a sucker for happiness and long hair so I did Shigure's best end first which was a dumb mistake since I was operating on the assumption that childhood friend route was true end, FUCK and I thought, huh, this wasn't too bad. Then I started going through the other routes and, well. I went from 3P to sweet Iseya's best end to Shigure's true end and whiplashed the shit out of my feelings. I can't even tell if I enjoy the game or if I'm impressed by what they just made me do to myself.

Rewatching the happy ends sting after going through all those the bad ones. ;_;

I can only forgive them because it's well done as a perversion of the route guy's character along with the MC and not some random death/24 hour caged fucking because you failed in securing the MC's target. The closest to matching this would be Chou no Doku which didn't have a true end, but got a pretty good common end instead.

So I got Norn 9 and my god, I love it even more than Realize so far.
Sure the story is more convoluted and weird, sure the background aren't that great, sure the translation isn't as good, but I think the romantic parts are better. Plus it has cute baby ducks and a better BGM.

Plus I really like the concept of having different heroines with different personnalities.

The true end messed up my expectations for it. It's like Hatoful's BBL ending without the hopeful note at the end.

Chou no Doku's omake ending where they make fun of everything was hilarious. What a good way to end a game. Agreed on the Majima's ends. The FD highlights their tragedy even further which I thought was impossible, but then again there's Hideo's FD bad end. Fujita's route alternatively bored and frustrated at how it went. If only the writers hinted at his other fetish well before shocking people with it in his bad end.

I've seen it recommended in the archives, but I haven't played Koezaru wa Akai Hana yet. I've overloaded myself with Zettai Kaikyuu Gakuen (temporarily abandoned because of that fucking end reveal) and Sumire no Tsubomi.

I know I'm late to the party, but it kept bugging me how the similarities between Yoshiwara Higanbana and Choudoku were so damn eerie in some places.
Iseya was called Mashima all over the Japanese net (though I'd say he's milder and more relatable) and yeah, there are some common points.
And then Akito is so very much Shiba it hurts. The point of "I'm throwing money at you, why won't you love meee", involved in financial machinations connected to the demise of the heroine's parents, and then the zashikirou bad end. I think at one point Akito also muses that he wouldn't mind if Rin killed him after they got married.
I guess Shinobu also sorta qualifies, being in the "dick bigger than heroine's arm" club together with Fujita.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both games (in fact Higanbana is my GOTYE) and I'm not accusing one game of ripping off the other, but I just couldn't help but notice. Maybe the writer was a fan of Choudoku.

Anyway, being Iseya is suffering. I don't think I'd have liked him half as much if he so much of the plot didn't consist of fucking him over.
