So I just arrived at the Barrier on my first run. Asgore is there and is willing to kill me.
After a few tries, I can't find a way to end the fight.
I have no weapon equipped, and I have absolutely no EXP/LOVE. Fighting him, if possible, would take AGES, even after talking him to death.
Am I fucked?

Also, a friend of mine told me that you can't get the pacifist ending on the first run. Is it true?
Would I REALLY have to replay the entire game the exact way I just did to get to the real ending? Sure, the game was fun, but I don't feel like replaying it.

So, am I being spitroasted by the game?

Go back and get the knife. You get the option to spare him afterwards.
You'll also have to go back and reload your SAVE file after you fight him, but as long as you go pacifist through every thing else, you don't need to reset, just a bit of backtracking.

First question, no. If you go back through the castle, you can pick up the Worn Dagger and Heart Locket in one of the rooms. They're there in case you didn't make investments upgrading your equipment.

As for the second question, also no. If you haven't killed anything at all, you'll still need to fight the Neutral boss, but afterward you'll just need to head back to the hotel area. if you've befriended Papyrus and Undyne both, you'll get a phone call for another date.

I have the same problem, but I still find files named file0 and file, 9 which contain my character-name and several activated and unactivated states it seems, in the appdata folder.

I hate that people word it like that. It often gets people confused. You'll have to get through the neutral ending first, but you can just load your save when you're done with that and keep going to get the pacifist ending.

Do you still have undertale.ini? The game can't know where you are in the story without it. file0, file8 and file9 are sort of save states of your progression. file0 is looked upon in combination with undertale.ini when you load your save. file9 is written from time to time automatically, a copy of file9 is made to file0 when you save. file8 seems to be written only you finish a run.
