Play Grand Strategy or CRPGs or some shit, maybe ArmA 3 if you enjoy that.

All pleasurable activities are prone to you becoming indifferent to them. You're building a resistance to this activity releasing various "happy-substances". This is the reason druggies need stronger hits eventually, but it works for other things too, making it so these things seem less pleasurable to you. You need to quit vidya for a while to sort of reboot. Do vidya abstinence for a couple weeks before Bannerlord comes and you'll find it much more exciting that you would've before.

Tbh, it's really only indie games that do it for me anymore. Indie is a broad spectrum but i don't mean the gone home walking simulator "really makes me think" nonsense. Publishers like devolver who focus on the fun and being aware of what a game is are people i keep my eyes on. Japanese devs put good stuff out every now and then too. Monster Hunter Stories is cool, but sometimes i get reminded playing shit like that how old i am.

I don't feel like I've outgrown video games, but it feels like I've outgrown what I used to play. 8 years ago I used to be able to with no problem spend an entire weekend grinding away in a jrpg or mmorpg. Nowadays my time is limited to the point where grinding just feels like a waste of time. I also have the same issue with games that have a steep learning curve. If I don't get enough progress it feels like I didn't get the experience I wanted during the time I have for video games.

Teenage me would be so disappointed to see that nowadays all I play are casual games.

I'm the same age as you OP. I pretty much stopped really enjoying games around 5 years ago. No game can really seem to hold my attention anymore. And most popular games seem to be mainly online with toxic communities.

At College this wasn't such a problem because I could just socialise with flat mates and go drinking every weekend but now I'm back home I've had to find other shit to do. I love running as a new hobby but my knee is currently injured so I might have to switch to something else in the meantime.

Find a new hobby OP. When you spend less time playing vidya, you're more likely to actually play it when you feel like it rather than playing it cause you feel like it's the only thing you like.

I'm always spending money on the newest gadget to use in a project.
For a while I didn't leave my house for about 2 weeks because I was spending too much time in virtual reality and making player models for VRchat.
