I played super metroid for the first time this summer. Shit was easy since you have like 15 energy tanks and 5 extra automatic reserves to protect you from an unexpected death. All you do is spam missles. I didn't run out a single time. If people really think having to jump to line up your shot is depth they are retarded.

This mechanic rewards good timing with extra survivability. Tons of casuals will be awful at it and die. I don't really see a problem here. There's likely to be attacks you can't block anyways.

The real thing that will make or break this game is the size of the world and amount of bosses and content. If there are interesting and useful powerups and lots to explore this game will be fine.

I'm doubtful about that, though.

My main concern is the melee counter. I don't have an issue with new mechanics being added, but if it becomes something that you can just spam and cheese the game with, that's a dealbreaker.

Also, SR is kind of an ugly game. But not much that can be done about that. Would have preffered a sprite-based game, but Nintendo doesn't want to do sprites anymore.

This boss looks pathetic, but Metroid always had pathetic early game bosses. All they need to do is give Ridley more health to compensate for being able to constantly aim at him and he can still be just as threatening.

Like I said before, I'm going to give the game the benefit of the doubt and make my choice based on the amount of content of the game. As long as there are lots of discoveries and items to find with your unlockable abilitys, then I'm game. Metroid has always been more about exploration than the combat. Regardless of anything they change, the game is going to be easy on Normal, just like every Metroid game before it. Consider that your aiming options were partly due to control limitations at the time the previous entries came out. Now there are sticks so why not let you aim better? It will just make traversing the world shooting anything a little bit smoother when you have to get those awkward angles.

A game shouldn't be intentionally programmed to be broken with bugs and glitches. It should be made to be open legitimately. Super Metroid, for example, needed very few glitches to give a sense of non-linearity in its progression. Prime's flaw was missing some of these notes, so people had to break open doors and abuse hitboxes. I'd say Super Speedruns are far more entertaining because of it.

I appreciate that they're trying to do something at least a little different with the parry, but man it looks like it just blows the flow of the whole thing. Waiting for enemies to attack so you can react is the most boring combat mechanic, fucking Assassin's Creed 1 all over again. If they wanted more combat options, just a dodge or something would've been better I feel. Rewarding you for parrying by auto targeting/special boss attack is just encouraging you to stand there and parry everything you can.

They also should've just made it a cheaper downloadable title on Switch, seriously the 3DS limitations just make the artstyle they're going for look all weird. I'll still probably play it though.
