I love the characters conceptually and visually, and the fight scenes are legitimately great, and even the story seems pretty interesting, but the dialogue...holy hell, the dialogue. It's so. goddamn. bad. I literally can't watch past the first couple episodes because of how awful this writing is, and I've tried to a handful of times. Does it get better later or is this entire show unwatchable during anything but the fight scenes?

Not him, but Season 4 was great for fans who wanted worldbuilding and to explore the world of Remnant. Plus Weiss got a pretty good character arc and development, Yang had to deal with what happened instead of just shrugging it off like most anime-esque shows would do, and generally the plot thickens.
The scene with Jaune training was actually a really good job of giving fans a real punch to the gut.

The other side that complains about the lack of action, and the drastic drop in the quality of animation for said action, has fair point too. For me, this next season is going to make or break the show for me; if the animation team continues to pull the stock-standard cut-cut-cut method of keeping you so disoriented you interpret it as action without actually being able to follow what's happening, or the horribly-directed mo-cap seen in the latest season of RvB, then I'm pretty much done.

Season 1 sucks, season 2 has it's moments but also sucks, season 3 may be a little rushed but it's better and bad, but doesnt suck, and season 4 is decent and sometimes even good.
The best episode is the first of season 2 still. That foodfight is the best in the whole show.

I will agree Season 4 had a lot of great non-action moments. Lets hope in Season 5 they can get their act together for the fight scenes. The trailer for S5 looks somewhat promising fighting wise.
