I'll admit right away that this is my first Yakuza game, but do all the bosses in the series take this many hits to beat? I have no problem reading patterns and seeking chances to counterattack, but the amount of punishing the bosses can take is honestly slightly overwhelming. The health regen thing especially is a bit excessive.

Otherwise it's a cool game. The city has fucking great atmosphere.

They kind of fucked the boss battles in this. You can upgrade and get a few different Kiwami finishers. When the boss starts regening you can match your style to his aura and do the finished as a special heat move. It's a pretty stupid gimmick because a lot of people aren't getting the upgrades before the first few bosses.

The rest of the games have no stupid gimmicks for bosses and are much better. Hopefully Kiwami 2 avoids this as well.

Order doesn't matter. 0 is the better game so doing Kiwami first might be a good idea. Kiwami is also short and has much less side content so you can finish it quicker

Get the heat style upgrades. When you knock em down a certain number a times, they start sweating a fuck ton and it's in the same color as your fighting styles.

While in Heat mode, switch to the corresponding color when you see the mist around them and you'll do some cinematic finishers. This is an upgrade, by the way. It's in the 2-tier ring in Souls upgrades.

It's not obsolete, it's still a fun game. I imported Kiwami but to be honest I enjoyed the HD version of 1 more. Kiwami looks nicer and has some more side content, but I still like the original. The Majima everywhere thing was fun but gets old quick, and I didn't really care for the Kiwami moves during boss fights. Also Kiwami is much easier than the original I find due to the style system.

The people shitposting about one being better than the other are just retards. Both games offer different things and I'd recommend anyone who's interested in the series to try out both. Don't get baited into this weird "original vs kiwami" shit that is going around. Anyone who's actually a fan of the games can appreciate both.

I'm playing Zero as my first Yakuza and loving it. How good is Kiwami compared to it? Thinking of picking up the steel box edition before they're all gone so I can play it as soon as I'm done with Zero, but I won't drop the $40 if it's not as filled with content. I mean, it is the first game, after all, which is what's making me skeptical of it.

I feel like this is how Zero's difficulty should've been, seeing how Kiryu was weaker in that game. You could pretty much mash your way through Zero safe for the boss fights but in Kiwami you actually have to think about what you're going to do next because you're so weak and I like that, the regeneratimg thing should go, though.

The problem is you've got 2 groups of shitposter derailing threads in an attempt to out-shitpost the other group. One group falls for the "if its old it sucks" meme, and the other group has this weird obsession with play orders and "canon". Both groups are made of people who mostly only got into the series with 3 or 4 anyway, yet they have bizarrely strong opinions on which version of 1 everyone else should be starting with.

Then you have the middle ground people who have actually played both versions and keep trying to point out that both 1 and Kiwami have their own flaws and strengths, and that either version is fine. It was that whole "building the list" thing Sony did with Gio Corsi asking what games Sony fans wanted localized. Yakuza 5 had a huge chunk of the ballot and Sony helped foot the bill for bringing it over. 5 sold well enough to give SEGA faith in 0 I guess, and it helped that 0 was a prequel. And yeah tons of streamers and e-celebs were hyped for 5/0 so it just helped boost sales.

Honestly for all the NEVER EVER memeing, I wouldn't be surprised if Ishin is announced sometime after 6 and the inevitable Kiwami 2 localization. Nioh sold really well in the west, better than in Japan, and samurai games fill that weeb niche perfectly. The Fist of the North Star game probably won't be out until the end of 2018 anyway, and the Shin Yakuza project isn't even close to being done. I'd put money down that an Ishin announcement will happen somewhere in the gap of Japanese releases.

I would consider 5 to be the tipping point since it showed them there's still interest in the west, they just need to tone down their expectations a bit, and then 0 sealed the deal. Personally I still think Ishin is up in the air though, they probably won't do anything until 6 is probably out, and then they could have it as an interim between 6 and Kiwami 2's release.

Without playing 0 I can tell you he's just a likable guy. In 1 he was nuts but he had a code of ethics he abides by as seen with the one chick in the love hotel thing and he both lives to fight Kiryu and wants to help him out as much as possible at the same time. In 2 he's much more helpful and he has some great scenes like him holding off the Omi from Kamurocho for Kiryu and the bomb defusing scene and he's also shown to be a responsible businessman trying to make Kamuro Hills a reality. In 3 he's much more serious, sure, but he's still a loose cannon and he both fights Kiryu and wants to help him live his quiet life if he can. He's not really in 4 from what I can remember besides the one scene where he's basically being extorted by the Ueno clan and the Daigo set us up scene. In Dead Souls he's great, he just talks down to a stuck up hostess, his substories are both hilarious and fun, he has that amazing scene with the giant prototype where he slams it across the head with his shotgun, he has that awesome Tsuchigumo Prototype scene buddying up with Akiyama, and his entire "Am I a zombie" main plotline is fun as well. Then in 5 you can see the human side of him, he's just getting tired of it all but is sticking with the Tojo for Daigo and Saejima's sake.

On another side he's also pretty neat in Kenzan, especially when you're running through the castle and he realized you're helping Yukino if I remember the story right.

Can somebody explain one simple thing to me: how is it that Kiryu and Majima never kill a single fucking person in Yakuza 0 even though Kiryu's clearly shooting people in the head with a pistol, making taxis roll over and explode, and blowing up attack helicopters? Majima's heat moves also definitely fucking kill people, yet right near the end of the game either Kiryu or Majima says killing is a line they won't cross. This series is good but it makes no fucking sense.

The argument Sera used is that Makoto would know that Majima killed someone for her and that would destroy her, hence he didn't do it.
