A decent guy with the chance of being a litteral god in the gaming world but became evil and turned into a devil.

Also, the people at Valve became lazy fucks and cowards for not stepping up to the challenge of actualy concluding Half Life 2's story with Ep3.

A great guy who revolutionised the gaming industry, the only true guy who is owner of the best gaming company ever existed, all of his games are top selling high rated games, he brought the gaming community together via steam, helped with indie developers getting big, made esports as it is today, when no one gave a fuck about it, and saved PC gaming.

Just a fucking great guy all around.

>>
>>388646574
Steam is the reason PC gets so many games that would otherwise be console only. They managed to attract a lot of console players to PC.
>>
>>388633498
He had noble intentions when he allowed Valve employees to do what they want but the lack of structure is what really led to Valve no longer making games.

I'm also curious as to the details behind the cliques within Valve that formed and decided as a majority to fire a bunch of people just because they didn't like them. Even if they were dicks that just screams hostile workplace where you can't risk going against the grain because you don't have a real boss or a real HR department to tell people to fuck off or deal with their petty grievances in a normal manner; instead you risk being ostracized and fired without cause.
>>
>>388646815
>They managed to attract a lot of console players to PC.
And that's how you ruin something that didn't need saving.
It's like how consoles got ruined once casuals and their dudebros got their sticky fingers on videogames with the PS2 and ESPECIALLY the 360.
>>
An icon of gaming once, a grubby online merchant nowadays.

he seems to not really care, as long as whatever they do is profitable. Unless it causes people to bitch about it, which makes him go to reddit and do an AMA. Seems to happen every 6 months to 1 year.
>>
>>388633498
I remember hearing him talk long ago. I recall him saying many great things, such as player created content being the future. I agreed entirely, remembering how players would create their own games within games like starcraft custom maps, etc.

But I misunderstood. He meant making hats and Dota cosmetics so that Valve can pocket from it. Turns out he meant from a standpoint of making money, not improving the quality of games and communities within them. Still a good businessman.

It's not the sort of hurt that you feel right away, not all of it anyway. It's the kind that lingers in your mind like a thorn, the sort that holds back a smile, even if you've long ago forgotten why.
When I'm old and withered and sit on the park bench wondering why the cracks in the path seem so deep, if the leaves weren't always closer to brown than they were to green. For what reason the water on the window pane parts the way it does. It'll be the thorn that draws these thoughts from me. The thorn that saw my heart turn to ash even before my bones. An ache that weighs on the soul, until its last, most bitter days.

I really wonder what's going on in his life. It's easy to call him a cunt.

Maybe he got sucked too far into the business world and lost track of what customers really enjoy. Surrounded every day by suckups who are after his gold, encouraging him to make more money that they can leech off him. Any suggestion that fills more pockets is met with cheer from his surroundings.

Maybe he got tired of all the negative feedback he receives. Make HL3, and get disappointed response because it doesn't live up to the other titles. Don't make HL3, and get equal disappointment. The longer this lasted, the more people shat on him. Being on the receiving end of millions of assholes doesn't make you want to humour anyone. He has money, and ways to fuck people over for even more. For many people, it would be a natural course of action.

Same.
I think Valve will pass from being a company that does everything slow but good to a company just like every other, doing more games but in their case, it'll be more microtransactions based games, or maybe they will just stop making games and focus on services and become the Google of gaming; Which they already are, sort of.

>made a lot of money
>his company has become lazy and unambitious
>too much focus on hardware division that's incompetent

There's the whole situation summed up for you. People liked HL2 and TF2 so much they made a meme out of the guy, they never stopped to think of whether or not he might not live up to their expectations. It's just a rich guy who runs a company, he was never out to be some great video game developing artiste. People worked themselves up over nothing.
>>
>>388633498
?
>>
>>388655968
Not him, but I've never really liked it either. Nothing about it's interface or layout is well designed and is always needlessly cluttered or janky.
The steam store is overwhelmingly saturated with uncurated content and trashy or incomplete cash grab products and every shitty point and click VN under the sun leaving the steam store nearly impossible to search for new games. There is no effective way to segment these products for filtering without unintended takedowns because the store relies on community generated tags.
The steam store (via the publishers on the platform) regularly participate in shady business practices by raising products to full price before a "steam sale" to give people the impression of better savings.
Valve takes an unprecedented percentage cut of all revenue on Steam, 30%, which is significantly damaging to smaller releases and indie developers while Valve does little with that money to improve the service. This results in inflated prices.
Any products you own on steam are tied to the platform by design and require it for access to goods that you have purchased. At their sole discretion they can bar you from access to these products or revoke them entirely.
This isn't even getting into their shitty trading cards and marketplace, which doesn't even let you sell games, proving that you don't actually own them.

Steam is just an unfortunate problem really. It's not doing any good for the gaming community and survives soley on the fact that everyone is already dependant on it for many of their games.
