I play FF14 and I don't feel compelled to log in every day. Dailies may feel restrictive, but why do I care? Weekly caps get removed the following patch and then I can grind out the tomes on the weekends. He is right for the casual base (which is where they make a chunk of their money) because they can do all their content just fine.

Nioh isn't shit. It's the only non-fighting game I've played on the PS4 with actual decent combat, but it's sure no Ninja Garden. (I'm not including HD ports of DMC4 SE and the like.)

I've never seen Hayashit's name in any of the Nioh credits, but I'll take your word for it since some of the enemy encounters and levels were just as shitty as Ninja Garden 3. It's just that I'm willing to give Nioh some lee way since it's an Action Rpg and the rpg elements help Nioh to be less shitty than it could've been. Nioh is a passable game. Ninja Gaiden 3 & Razor's Edge are both complete wrecks.

The only thing I'll ever give Hayashit credit for is Dead or Alive V. Itagaki can't make fighting games worth shit because he intentionally makes the damn ninjas broken as fuck whereas Hayashi found a way to make DoA work. The ninjas are still fucking broken, but the tier gap isn't as high as it once was back when Cookie was in charge. But there's a case of a certain game: Suda51's Flower, Sun and Rain. It was a game specifically made to be as unfun as humanly possible. The game constantly mocks you just for playing it. It has a pedometer to show you how much you aimlessly ran throughout the whole island. Each time you think you start enjoying something, it comes and takes everything away. But there was something engaging and unique in it, so I persevered till the end. It was one hell of a ride, really, and I'm glad I "bothered".

The empty open world is legitimately annoying. Once you are in a larger base, the gameplay gets pretty damn fun, I agree. It's just a shame they went with the open world idea.

the problem with this is that mg1, mg2, and mgs1 (mgs1 to a lesser extent) were explicitly designed for the player to be able to self-insert as snake, just like link from TLoZ. kojima knows that better than anyone. and you can still self-insert as snake in mgs2, maybe even better than in mgs1 because his character isn't explored as much. it's actually harder for most fans of the franchise to perceive themselves as raiden, given the fact that he is a completely new character, with a more developed backstory, and has pre-existing relationships with characters who are also new

if anything, raiden represents the player who is just getting into the franchise and/or has no idea what metal gear is really about

Fuck man, I know that feel.
I wrote a review for it, stating that it is indeed the worst thing I ever played, and yet I think it is a masterpiece.
It is really terrible, the gameplay is awful, fun is something that does NOT exist on Lospass, and yet I couldn't stop playing.
I hated and loved that game so much that I even asked my gf to paint a shirt for me with the game's logo.
To this day, it is one of the most memorable videogame experiences I ever had.
