maymay.
Like with LITERALLY every hobby, higher grades of interest in a hobby will require better equipment, which is obviously bound to be more expensive.
Surfing with a 2000$ board is simply more enjoyable than surfing wtih a 20$ board.
Playing with a real rig is obiously going to be more enjoyable than playing on a 30fps 720p paperweight.

A 1080ti is still at minimum $600 even if you buy a cheap chink knockoff.

Console gaming is cheaper, even if you buy into the online crap. You can get games on kijiji, or ebay for deals. Resales.

The problem with your analogy is it doesn't consider the secondary costs.

>entire PC with monitor and peripherals

You can build a pretty good setup for around 1200 dollars.

So what then? Well, you can find a bunch of cheap ass games on GoG/Steam.

Meanwhile, on consoles, if you intend to play online, you are definitely going to be paying 10 dollars a month for the privilege.

>owning a console 5 years = 700 dollars of online fees
>initial cost of 4-500 dollars
>and games seemingly never get as cheap as the shit you see on Steam, Humble Bundle, GoG

but yes, if you want to be an enthusiast who is always playing in the highest settings on the latest AAA multiplats, sure, PC can be more expensive.

Everyone has to have a computer, it's non-negotiable. A 150$ GTX9604GB will run just about any game at high 60fps with reshade. Consoles are +400$ For worse performance and paid multiplayer. Also as a captive market you have higher prices on games.

Penny wise, but pound foolish.

This build will be completely obsolete shit a year after building it. A nice entry level set of tower components should end up around 700-800 dollars.

The 400 dollar " I can beat a console! " builds are always pure shit.
>>
>>387144278
PS4 Pro killer.
Literally can 1080p/60fps almost everything on High settings, including but not limited to Witcher 3, RE7, GTAV... etc.
>>
>>387143425
Spent 300 bucks on a pc like 7 years ago, only just felt like I should replace it last month. Also consider that you kind of need to own a pc as a human being alive in this era so spending an extra hundred bucks so you can add a few years of gaming to its capabilities isn't much of a risky investment.

Unrelated to costs but having all your games on a single platform that lasts forever is convenient as hell. I always feel so sorry for console and handheld users who get excited when an old game is ported to the current generation of their platform of choice, even though they're expected to buy it again.
>>
>>387144087

You're forgetting a cpu, psu, mobo, hdd/ssd, fans, speakers, monitor, headphones.
>>
>>387144408
>This build will be completely obsolete shit a year after building it.
No it won't. It already BTFO of my 1000€ build I did 5 years ago.

Not to mention upgrading that thing will be easy and cheap in the near future. Thanks to consoles holding progress back so much nowadays, even a decade old machines may still work "OK" with modern games.
>>
>>387144087
Smartphones are starting to become mandatory too. People keep making shit that ties functionality to apps. Even some homeless people have smartphones
>>

>>
>>387144519

Sure, you can upgrade it, but then the cost is going up.

I'm an avid PC gamer, I just think shortchanging yourself with such a cheap build isn't worth it. Should always have dual channel RAM, and I would say 16 gigabytes worth is becoming more important now.

Also, that processor just isn't going to cut the mustard.

So if you're going to be upgrading it soon after building it, you might as well spend more building a better rig from the get go.

I grant you that they often shit out. One of my case fans has a shitty bearing and makes a grinding noise for 5 minutes or so when I boot the PC up.

Still. You can own a nice enough PC and end up spending more or less what a console will cost you over it's lifetime.

And I actually enjoy tweaking and maintaining my builds. I don't mind if it costs more, it's fun.

Also, pic related is another strange obsession over there, I've learned.
>>
>>387145408

Yeah, but at that point, I'd rather just own the console because devs will be optimizing games for that specific hardware for 5+ years ( admittedly, this trend seems to be changing )

Meanwhile, that shitty dual core processor is already going to be shitting bricks day one with certain games, and there is no way you'll enjoy playing anything new in 5 years on that hunk of sin.

>>
>>387145685
You also have to factor in other stuff as well. Emulation, multimedia production, software development, cheaper games (usually), the ability to pirate, adjustable graphics settings, mods, support for older games without rebuying them are all major advantages PC has over a console.
>>
>>387143235
desu that PC will last you 20 years
>>
>>387144763
>Sure, you can upgrade it, but then the cost is going up.
Meanwhile, on consoles, you do not upgrade.
You slowly go from kinda-1080p (or 900p, if you're on normie PS4 / Xbone), to sub-1080p, then 720p...always at (jumpy) 30fps... until the system's ultimately forgotten altogether by devs.

>I'm an avid PC gamer,
But many other people are not. If you're a literal newbie to the whole PC shit, this kind of low-price builds will let you have a nice kickstart with the mustard-race's fancy capabilities in a cheap, comfortable fashion, without having to gimp your experience and drop settings much at all even with the biggest AAA blockbusters out now.

>Also, that processor just isn't going to cut the mustard.
You clearly haven't followed the budget-build circles much. Tons of amateur benchmarks have proven G4560 to be a vastly superior choice than even the current i3 chips, which is why Intel's kinda trying to get rid of the G4560 now.

>So if you're going to be upgrading it soon after building it, you might as well spend more building a better rig from the get go.
You will not NEED to upgrade it for at very least of 2 years. I can ensure you.
People greatly exaggerate the system requirements and service life of modern components. It's not like in the 00s anymore, when even cutting edge gaming PCs were borderline obsolete mere couple years later.

I have literally, personally found out that a 2009-era Core2duo + GTX 750 + 6GB DDR2 can still run ANY game out now at 1080p. Up the GPU, and it'd do fine.

I mean, yeah, the quality of life on a passable PC is miles ahead of console.

I guess I'm just trying to say that paying a bit more for a good PC just further reinforces how fucking good PC is. You can do so much more with it than you can a console, and while I do own and play many consoles, PC is definitely where I spend most of my time.

Intel i5 (any model 2bh) + cheapest matching Motherboard + 8GB RAM + GTX 1060 + 500W 80+Bronze PSU.

Would serve you well at 1080p for many years, and if you play your cards right, can be built for mere 600 bucks.
If your budget doesn't hold up now, go with mere i3 CPU, or even that Pentium G4560.
The GTX 1050ti 4GB is also still enough for enjoyable 1080p/60fps gaming, but not all-Ultra.

If you want to play the very latest, hottest titles, you pretty much are.

Meanwhile, I can just look up the best CD-key deals online, and buy a brand new 60€ game for mere 25€. Or a few months old 30€ game for less than 15. And later on, you'll have legit Steam and GOG sales that can drop prices by 80%.

On top of that, most online gaming retailers now provide refund services, and you can even trade and "borrow" games with friends. I must have saved hundeds of buckaroos by buying only one copy of a game, and then using the Family Share function with people I know.

Not who you're replying to but this is much easier than you think. I don't know about XBox exclusives but the only exclusive I've felt any real interest in the PS4 was Nioh. I admit there's a bunch of shit on the switch that I wanna try, like the new Mario games (both Oddyssey and Rabbids XCom), but I assume the emulator won't take that long to work anyway.

I don't really like hack and slash, racing or souls-type stuff, so consoles are becoming less and less interesting for me.
>>
>>387149665
Even so, Amazon Prime and Best Buy offer discounts on retail games, and if you sell your new copy once you're done playing it, you can end up making almost all your money back.

For instance, I bought Cave Story + for the Switch for $25 and could sell it for that much. $2.50 seller fees and about the same for shipping, I just played a new release (well, new re-release) for $5

Constant usage is typically better than on/off, as temperatures remain constant and fans don't go through on/off cycles.

And given that they'll be undervolted, they'll also be under less stress than gaming usage.

That's actually Microsoft trying to goad everyone into using Win10. Intel and AMD would be more than happy to keep serving the enterprise market that likes to stick with older versions, but MS simply doesn't want that to happen.

PCs can be *almost* as cheap as consoles if you put in the effort to make them from scratch. But if you don't want to make a PC on your own, fear that you might bought the wrong hardware that is incompatible with your games, or other reason, consoles are far cheaper (especially if you wait for holidays).
But price shouldn't matter as much when deciding which to get. Both PCs and Consoles are huge investments you simply can't just get instinctively.
>>
>>387167215
By the way 700 includes 120 for my monitor which I would've needed for a console as well, so I think it's more fair to so 580 for my initial setup, 780 over its lifetime.

it pulls 30-60 FPS on all the 2016 and 2017 games in this video at 720

over 100 FPS on Overwatch

add another £30 to get to the price of a 1050 and it will be hitting 60-90 FPS at 1080 on all those games, matching or beating console performance on all multi-platforms.

thats the point though, you can start with a barebones budget build PC and incrementally improve components as you need

1030 will match most console performance of games

Oops, I did have a cooler picked out but forgot to post the updated pic. Went with the Cooler Master Masterliquid 240 for $88. It fits with the overall aesthetic of my build and sounds like it'd get the job done.

What's the benefit of an X370 board instead?

I was going with the soundcard as an in-build amp for my Sennheisers, which I've read helps out a ton in FPS since the card comes with software that allows positional sound. Versus a DAC/Amp.

X370s have better cooling and simply more VRMs around the chipset, which is much safer for overclocking. That Coolermaster is a great choice too.

Luckily they're not horrendously more pricey than the B350 boards.

And that's fine, then. I was curious because I see lots of people buying dedicated sound cards because they're not aware that the onboard audio is usually more than enough.
