There's a couple of unused voicelines for Sae in the English dub that has her saying "I love you" and some other intimate stuff. I'm assuming they did this in in advance in case they couldn't get her VA back or something. To make it doubly interesting, there's no such equivalent for the Japanese dub, meaning it was a new addition in the files when it was getting localized.

Honestly as many issues as the localization script has, the fact they wouldn't let Ryuji just casually say fuck is probably the worst.

Catherine's dub had tons of casual swearing and it made the dialogue flow a lot more naturally. "Eff" is just really, really awkward, and even stupider when you consider there's other NPCs that say it in even in voiced dialogue.

Here's what they should have done with that shit:

Morgana gets removed from the party.
He and Haru show up in Okumura's Palace a few times to impede your progress, because they want to take his heart first.
Eventually push comes to shove and Morgana escalates things into a boss fight and drags Haru along with it.
Sappy apologies happen then, Haru joins and Morgana rejoins the party right before you send the calling card.

Instead we got an absolutely pointless pot of nothingness. I loved P5 overall but that entire arc was a huge slog and felt like the worst part of the game. Thankfully it picks up immediately after.

P4 had the same problem with Naoto.
I would love to play a Persona game with just a five person party you get at the start of the game, and that's it. Story focuses on their growth over the year instead of tossing in more and more characters. If you have a smaller party, everyone can get more individual growth and focus.

Hell, you could even still have the four-man party with a navigator role. Just have whoever's not in the party at the time play navi, maybe with different bonuses for each navigator. Imagine Ryuji as the navigator: the map looks like it's sketched out in crayon and is sometimes incorrect, but he'll give you damage buffs in every fight.

I don't like or care about the vast majority of the social links in P5. They didn't really tell stories and the side characters don't develop or have an epiphany, you usually just find out about someone's problems and then solve them with magic brainwashing. This is so much worse than the previous games where more social links had an arc to them.

The time management aspect is what really rankles, especially compared to P3 FES which IMO was so much better. Constantly being told to go to bed and watching straight hours of cutscenes bookending every single enormous chunk of gameplay is one of the most common complaints. Dungeon-running takes up a full day (until you get Kawakami's late ability) which encourages clearing everything in one shot, which is horrible for pacing. Compare that to P3 FES where Tartarus had its own basically dedicated timeslot so you could break the dungeon-running up into smaller digestable pieces. P5 also gives you way too much time overall. Being able to build up relation points without spending time means that scheduling is super lenient and not interesting. I had nothing to do for weeks at the end of P5.

I really miss the stunlocking from P3, but everything else in 5 felt like an upgrade. Baton Passes let you manipulate turns in a really neat way, especially during stuff like the Okumura fight, guns could have been better but function as a good risk/reward system of getting a crit, negotiations and having multiple ways to end random battles was a really good addition.

The dungeons still felt faster to me than P3 and 4's. I thought the stealth aspects made the awkward ambush mechanic of P3 and 4 feel more natural, and the scenery and way they're presented made them actually feel like proper phantom thievery. Puzzles could have been better, and I would have loved proper platforming, but it's overall still a step up from previous games.

Negotiations were a good addition, although I think it also made the game really easy. Negotiating with one enemy shouldn't end the entire battle. Also, as a minor nitpick (but still a pretty important detail), P5 is way too generous with physical attacks and crits. Since you can't critical miss like in previous games, and crit skills can be stacked to an absurd extent, you can get guaranteed knockdowns on anything not immune to phys. Which is crazy. Why is Apt Pupil so ridiculously good?

I thought P3's were the fastest, all you ever got was a line from your navigator at each new floor and that was it. P4 slowed it down because fixed floors would have puzzles. P5 felt like nothing but those P4 fixed floors. The scenery is definitely prettier, although I don't really feel the phantom thievery bit. Stealth is really only a factor in the first palace. From then on it's all enclosed spaces, ambushing everyone. I was really disappointed that hiding, even at the wrong angle, makes you completely invisible to enemies. It means the stealth gameplay is nonexistent and ambushes are practically always guaranteed. I thought 4's ambushing was absolutely terrible and finicky, but 5 overcompensates.

In Persona 2: Innocent Sin, the game's whole gimmick is that rumors that gain enough traction end up warping reality to suit that rumor. In the game, a book gets leaked to Maya's publisher that Hitler never committed suicide and was saved by a group of elite commandos, thus reviving him. Spoilers: It wasn't really Hitler, but Nyarlothep taking on the guise of rumors to win his side of the bet with another powerful god-like entity, Philemon. Philemon is the butterfly (save for P5) that you see across all the games for the record. This plays almost no effect on the future games (cause the director of the series left and they wanted to leave those games alone and do like a soft reboot), except for one thing. In P2EP a bunch of scientists are taking shadows from humans and extracting them and holding them in labs and studying them. This gets shut down, but a group splinters away from the Nanjo Corp (the original group conduct these experiments called The Kirijo Corp which secretly continues researchign shadows on an island where, you guess it, they fuck up and basically cause the events of P3. P4 is just a random goddess fucking around with a small country town and P5 is somewhat separated from 3 and 4 for now as well. Likely all future Persona games will not invole 3 4 and 5 as much because they director of those games just left as well.

maybe a hub town in the dreamlands where you get your gear from. the excuses for how the characters keep procuring usable weapons in the real world are getting a bit much.

I'm also getting a tad tired of the whole isekai/wonderland thing where the characters only use their powers in altered spaces and being basically normal humans in their day-to-day life. Play up the psychic powers aspect a bit more, maybe implement a system similar to the raidou games where different kinds of persona have different skills you can use out of battle, like reading minds, levitating objects, starting fires etc. Go into how your perspective on thing changes when you essentially have an invisible loaded gun in your brain
