High school gives you a stupid-easy set-up for having upper and lower classmen with the three grades, first part-time jobs, first romantic experiences, good contrast between conformity of the class and going your own way, scheduled class trips that most of the players can relate to, the stress of tests and grade expectations, getting to make new friends and the risks of losing them to school drama or college entry tests/distance, first time you really have to make choices that set you on a certain path in life, club activities, and free time with friends.

You can get some of these in college settings, but the dynamic is completely different, and is much less broadly shared by Japanese audiences than high school is/will have been.

I think it's worse when you max a link, the character has their big moment of self-discovery and actialization, and then the rest of the game they still act in a way that makes it seem like it never happened (to account for people that didn't max the link and resolve their inner demons).

People generally love the characters, story and setting, but the combat leaves a lot to be desired. They'll probably not make another one, as I understand it, it only got made because it was Kaneko's pet project and even then it had a shoestring budget and seeing as Kaneko hasn't had any major involvement in the games in a while, I'm doubtful another Raidou will come out.
