I played with the joycons in the grip for about a week and then decided to try the "turn motion control sensitivity all the way up. Trust me." meme. I'm the guy you're responding to, didn't think I'd get any responses. Anyway, I never once used Kraken in the first Splatoon, I was more of an Inkstrike kind of guy.

As someone else said, the idol sisters are not as good, shop owners are not as good, music is not as good, dialogue is not as good, maps aren't as good, animations aren't as good, the plaza isn't as good and I'm not crazy about the weapon balance. It's still a good game, it's just not as good as the first one in my opinion. Though of course it has a lot of room to grow with future updates, and Salmon Run is a very fun new addition.

Pick up your rainmake and do fuck all with it. See how long it takes your team to realize shit ain't go anywhere. That's how often your team looks at the damn map.

it's pretty bad, but the game just came out and the 1st game's balance was awful on launch too

At their current states, Splatoon 1 is a better game than Splatoon 2

However, I fully believe they have the potential to fix Splatoon 2's flaws and make it better than the 1st game, they've done a fair bit already (Murch > Spyke, Salmon run, LAN play, spectator mode, etc.)

The animations in the shops is what I mean primarily. In the first game your inkling would show you the bottoms of the shoes you're trying on, grip the brim of hats, twist to show off the back of the shirt, etc. It's admittedly a really minor nitpick but when combined with the worse shop keepers and worse dialogue from said shop keepers, it makes a difference. A very small difference but a difference nonetheless.

I think the after-battle animations are just a tad worse as well, but not nearly as much. Otherwise, I haven't noticed any differences in the animations during a match. As far as I've been able to tell they're mostly the same.

As for the plaza, I miss the alleyways and ramps, and seeing things in the distance and hearing weird music near the entrance. I'm pretty sure the shops are in the wrong order, too. Go into the hat shop and press L, you'll scroll to the shirt shop. But the shoe shop is to the left of the hat shop. It's absolutely a nitpick, I'll admit, but it makes an impact on the presentation of the game overall.
