RE6 didn't ever break even. It was so fucking bloated that it had SIX HUNDRED members of staff working on the game and Capcom's biggest ever budget:

RE7 by comparison had 120 people working on the game.

Also reminder that RE6 only sold 2 million copies at full price. It sold the rest as a budget game due to poor word of mouth. Not to mention it released at a time when there were 86 million PS3's and 85 million 360's out on the market, so there were a lot more people gaming at the time. The PS4 is at a respectable 60 million, but the Xbox one is only at 30 million. AAA games are hurting because Xbox isn't pulling its weight.

There's other reasons too. People don't even remember that RE7 came out anymore because it was released in January and then left unsupported since then. Capcom were hoping that Not a Hero would release in late March/early April and carry sales forward. Sadly it got delayed indefinitely and with no DLC, no-one is bothering to go back and pick it up. I imagine they were hoping Vendetta would spark interest in the game, but that turned out to be complete shit so again Capcom were shit out of luck. There's still the final piece of DLC to come out, along with the eventual release of Not a Hero, so RE7 will be back in the headlines at some point. Couple that with a complete edition and it'll end up selling more in line with Capcom's expectations.

I also wouldn't rule out a quick Switch port for extra copies. Capcom specifically got Nintendo to up the specifications of the Switch so RE engine could run smoothly on it. So I can see them churning out a hack job port now that they know Switch owners will buy half a million copies of Street Fighter 2 at $40 in 2017.

We already know all about what is was supposed to be. You played as Chris Redfield in the mines, you had to rescue some of your team from Lucas' traps before killing him in a boss fight. It was supposed to be more action than horror.

It was outsourced though and Capcom weren't happy with the result. It was shit so Capcom had to rework the content from scratch internally. It was meant to be out in March. We don't have another release date.

Incidentally, we also have another bit of content coming. A last DLC story chapter that is not only majorly horror focused, but it being created by ex-PT staff.
