The main thing people don't like about it is that "it has a 20 hour tutorial", meaning that you're not allowed to utilize all the battle mechanics right off the bat.
Personally, I don't see it as a 20 hour tutorial so much as the game staying fresh with new mechanics and abilities being made available every couple hours. It's one of my favorite games.

Also it's "considered the worst in the series" by /v/ first and foremost, it's got decent reviews and a pretty large fanbase.

it's a walking simulator with long cutscenes interspersted with very light rpg mechanics and mostly automatic combat.

there isn't much to explore since it's locked corridors most of the way.

the Lightning (main character girl), Hope (token teen) and Fang (strong feminist cunt) characters are awful, Lightning being the worst protagonist of a game i've ever seen written. Sazh, Snow and others are ok. Vanille will keep you erect throughout.

I love this meme. The combat is a massive improvement over the standard braindead turn based ATB system of most previous FF games. It actually requires smart paradigm setups and well timed switches, especially for latter bosses.
