They probably had to compensate for the levels not kicking you out of the level. If there were only 6-7 Moons per level, the worlds would probably be very short and there would be less incentive to explore.

The problem with that was that having to kick those fucking spiked fruits across all of Delfino Plaza, over the water, to the very end of the street three times was harder and more tedious than a lot of the actual shines, yet only gave you a blue coin. That's maybe twice the time and effort, for one tenth of the reward. In Odyssey you know what you're going to get and that is a moon. I know it may be a bit formulaic if the reward is always the same, but at least you avoid these tedious tasks for 100%.

I was just using that as an example, the fruit basket with the durian is sure as hell worse than anything we've seen in Odyssey or a lot of other things in Sunshine even and the Moons are definitely a better reward but my focus is you're doing minimal tasks for some of these Moons so I could see the similarity the Anon might see with the blue coins, also like the others said you aren't kicked out of the level. Regardless I'm hyped as fuck and have no issue with the Moons myself, you're still doing platforming tasks and controlling Mario looks so fun unlike the past few 3D games we were getting.

Yeah, I agree. Fall damage in SM64 meant that being high above ground came with some tension. Even if you could negate fall damage simply by ground pounding before hitting the ground, that wasn't helpful if you were in a sliding state, or diving so it was never completely negligible.
I understand that since Mario has less health in Odyssey, similar to the Galaxy games, enemies will all do 1/3 of his health in damage and having fall damage take away as much could make exploration frustrating since there'd be instances where enemies would hurt Mario and knock him down from a height, effectively taking away 2/3 of his health. Then again, you could argue this incentivizes caution and skill and just having Mario have 6 units of health from the get go could levitate this issue. It would be nice with the option to turn this on or off like a hard mode or something.

I think there is a slight homing property to Mario's dive after throwing the cap, but I've seen people steer away from it with ease. Not really sure how this works. It would be a shame if you just had to dive mid-air and Mario would automatically snap to the angle towards the cap.

The city parts look so fucking bad. The art direction is so strange, like I know Mario is supposed to "pop" and everything else is supposed to be really dull and grey but, it ends up looking like that Simpsons episode where Homer gets transported to real life NYC.

It just looks awkward and bad. Seeing Mario next to taxis and normal sized people is just.....really off putting.
