How much is too much for a gaming PC? Is a budget of $1300 or so overboard or just right? Not counting peripherals.
>>
>>384633683
probably overboard but you will like what you get.

http://www.logicalincrements.com/

1,300 nets the "outstanding" level
>>
A budget of $800 is the max for modern 1440p60 gaming. $500 for 1080p60 gaming. Anything extra is a luxury.
>>
>>384633683
about $1600 to $1800
anything above that is overkill
>>
Whatever is more then what you need for what you play and how you want to play it.

Play nothing but competitive shooters and MOBAs? You don't need to break $500-700 theres no point as you wont use the power going above that anytime soon.

G4560/1050ti can play a surprising amount of games really well.

Its all personal preference.
>>
>>384633972
don't listen to this nigga, i built myself a 1,900 dollar PC for pure gaming. it's the minimum you'll spend. 800 dollars gets you a gpu and maybe some RAM
>>
>>384633869
>>384634138
>>384634326
Are there any new cards on the horizon that would make waiting worth it or can I just go in now
>>
>>384634407
Terrible bait
>>
>>384634436
Every gpu is overpriced because of the cypto coin mining thing
Also supposedly there will be new cards in 4 months or so announced
>>
~$800 for an ok 1080p 60fps platform, more if you add SSDs

$1300 should be solid for 1080p 120fps or 1440p 60fps
>>
>>384633683
Pretty good i paid 1600 for mine with keyboard mouse and tv for it. Headset etc
>>
I ended up paying about 1500 for mine over 5 years ago and it still serves me well.
>>
>>384634992
>Every gpu is overpriced because of the cypto coin mining thing
Over soon.
>>
>>384634869
good retort faggot. objectively incorrect.
>>
>>384636006
Are you just retarded or seriously misinformed?
>>
>>384636935
I'm thinking high graphics settings rather than everything set to low

my 7600k / 1080 runs TW3 at 100 odd fps at 1080p with motion blur and shit disabled
>>
>>384633683
1300 sounds right if you're including monitor, mouse, and keyboard. If not then yeah that's more than I'd spend.
>>
>>384634436
>New cards on the horizon
Not yet. But you need to jump in eventually. Otherwise you'll fall for the
>I'll just wait for Vega, I'll just wait for Nvidia's new thing! I'll just wait for 10 years surely there will be something worth buying at that point!
>>
You can build a great PC and get a great monitor with 1300.
I spent exactly that 3 years ago and it is still going strong.
>>
>>384637187
That's not what I'm talking about. That pricing is way off. You can build an "ok" 1080p60 build for around $400-500 and a 1440p60 build for between 800 and 1000. Even less if you don't mind less then high settings.

(Not counting current mining affected pricing)
>>
>>384637531
I don't really see how you're going to accomplish that if you play graphically intensive games

for cs/overwatch/wow and whatnot you could easily do that
>>
>>384633683
i3 and a 1060 for 1080p 60fps medium to high on some games, medium to low on more demanding games
i5 and 1070 is the sweet spot and including everything, itll be about 1000
>>
Anything less than a grand is a piece of shit for PC standards.

You should prioritize your budget according to this:

GPU>CPU>MOBO>RAM>everything-else.
>>
I'm moving states in a few months, how the fuck do I take my desktop and monitor with me?

Maybe I should just take a bus or train instead of flight
>>
>>384638486
Hide it in your ass
>>
>>384633683
That's a good amount. You wont need an upgrade for a while if you get a 1060 or 1070.
>>
if you do an amd build you can spend like 800 and get one that can run pretty much everything that's popular right now nicely
>>
>>384638289
I'd put psu after mobo, them storage, ram is ram, just dont buy a skanky one and even those have warranty.

A budget tier gtx 1050 ti paired with a ryzen 1400 can play 9/10 modern games at 1080p60 near locked. You're speaking like every game is as graphically intensive as the witcher 3 when in reality they're not. A $500 1080p60 targeted build will actually be a 1080p60 build in practice at ~high settings as the vast majority of games aren't super taxing.
>>
>>384637187
I have a 6700k/1080 and I don't disable shit for tw3. Even with hairworks at max I'm getting 70 fps at 1440p.
>>
>>384636006
Wat
I spent less than 300 and play AAA titles at 1080p above 60fps.
I also bought some parts used

Cant you drive?
That's what I'll do next year when I graduate. My dad will tag along, we will switch along the way as to not get fucking tired, and I'll just buy him a plane ticket back.
I'm planning on moving from Miami to Austin.

The PSU should be put first. Don't want to sacrifice the lifespan of the PC with a shitty PSU.
>>
>>384638289

There's not much difference between a bronze or gold level PSU besides efficiency. Just get one from a reliable brand and you're good to go.

I agree, RAM is RAM. But the days of 8GB are over, most AAA titles are taking advantage of more RAM. Having 16 is the bare minimum. When it comes to budgeting, more RAM at a higher frequency is a better value than a slightly more efficient PSU.
>>
>>384633683

There's always something new on the horizon when it comes to pc parts. Unless something is already announced and has a set release date soon, the general rule is to buy the best parts you can afford that are available at that moment.

A reasonably priced Corsair PSU is all you need. There is no reason to spend more for branding. Most of the top brands don't even make their PSUs in house anymore. A lot of PSUs are made by one company and stamped with different name brands before leaving a factory.

99% of PSU problems are from bottom mounted units with poor ventilation. Buy a bronze level Corsair and spend ge extra money elsewhere.

the 7600k is only worth it if you already have an 1151 board. The 1600 offers cheaper overclockable b350 boards and decent wraith cooler. The only edge the 7600k has is in high refresh rate, at which point you should buy a 7700k.

>>
>>384642838
Even with a $430 gtx 1070 you can get a build within the $860 range. In a month or so when mining becomes worthless there should be 1070s back to around $380 level like before which should bring the price down to $800 or so

t. Built that exact build for around $800 including 8gb ram 3000 mhz, 1tb hdd, evga gtx 1070 acx 3.0, ryzen 1600 4 or so months ago
>>
>>384643353
All the best psu are made by seasonic and sold under a different brand
>>
I went with an i3 6100 and an RX 470 4gb for my first build 8 months ago. Did I fuck up with the CPU? I was going more for a budget build and that processor was recommended, but I've heard people saying that getting a dual core is a meme nowadays.
>>
>>384645565
should be fine for a while depending on what you play, if anything you could always pickup a second hand 7600/7700 once prices drop.

>>384645152

Thanks for the suggestions. Honestly all I've been playing as of late has been age of empires 2 which certainly doesn't need that hardware. I don't mind having graphics low. The only new games I'm thinking about playing are doing a Witcher 3 playthrough, and then I would like to play Far Cry 5 once it's cracked
>>
>>384638289
>gpu before cpu
Fuck no. It should go like this cpu > mobo > gpu/monitor res >psu > ram >everything else
You choose cpu first depending on your needs: multitasking, heavy workload like rendering, etc... then mobo (overclocking, extra pci slots for ssd). You pick gpu with the monitor resolution in mind (1080p, 1440p or meme 4k). After that, go for Psu with suitable power rating

>>384633683
Given video card and RAM prices right now, 1300 USD is about right. Maybe slightly high.

As to buying now or not, prices aren't going to go down unless Etherium takes a nose dive and there are mass graphics card selloffs or supply chain gets off their ass before Q1 next year (which is when it is forecast RAM and Video Cards should have access to low supply parts). Now is as good a time as any in the next 6 months.
