I didn't really get into Dragon Ball until 2015 when I was 22.
Personally I really like the older designs but everything after Fat Buu was weaker than the earlier stuff and GT was fucking trash.

That being said, Super does have some designs/characters I like, like this guy.

The only big problems super has had were the shitty/rushed animation early on and the ending to the Zamasu/Future Trunks arc. There should have been an extra episode during the ending solely dedicated to Vegito vs Merged Zamasu, which would end with Zamasu being shown to have been severely weakened by the time Vegito split up so Trunks landing the kill at least would feel less out there, or that Zamasu should have been beaten by a "father and son Final Flash."

For anyone wondering about Dragon Ball "canon" there is no clearly stated version. The common accepted current canon is

Dragon Ball manga > Tori's Super draft
if you don't like the manga, then it's
Dragon Ball > DBZ Kai > Tori's Super draft

Toriyami wrote the outline for super and handed it to the manga and anime teams. I'ts not available to the public, but a good rule of thumb is that if something is in BOTH, it's canon but if it's only in one of them it is not

They've said some characters will be balanced around team composition rather than just being outwardly strong. Krillin's whole gameplan will be that his tools will help his team a lot, but the downside is that if his teammates are both dead he's a bit dead in the water. It's the same psychology as Marvel 2 & 3, but in DBFZ it's balanced with that in mind and certain characters are chosen to be in that position based on how they fight, so they'll likely still be useful.

if he gets revealed I'd be happy with the 10 characters in the game at that point. Krillin was the only guaranteed character I really wanted and I got him. If Gotenks gets in I'll be fucking set for life. The only other characters that could push it even further beyond would be Roshi, Jaco, Arale, Yajirobe, Chichi, Videl or Satan. All of those guys don't feel likely but I have hope that at least one of them can tag along with Gotenks, who's got potential.
