That's cherry-picking but you have a point. The thing with Max's narration is that it was always very detached and very literary, which contrasted with the lowlifes he interacted with (Payne in the butt!) and provided that special weirdness.

Alan Wake is purposedly built to be felt like a cheap novel cheap thriller and a cheap TV show, but the difference is that it's parodying those things with self awareness and just wants you to have fun and go along with it. Like B serie movie or a pulp fiction book like Stephen King and the likes.

It's kinda genius though, in a strange bizarre way that Alan Wake exists and was greenlighted. It's not bad at all, even if it poses to be cheesy and self aware.

Max isn't suppose to swear and be and overtly bitter self-loathing fuck in the internal monologues. They are sad and dramatic and literary in both 1 and 2. That's what makes the game stand out from your average criminal drama like GTA or Max Payne 3 (not to say that criminal drama or those games are inherently bad).

MP3 is written by GTA writer, who prefers to write more down-to-earth speech, and it shows.
