Science and religion both exist. The issue is one is using their views to suppress and kill the other.

I can't believe they had the audacity to make the villain the Church.
Castlevania's never had a villainous priest before.
>>
Never played a Castlevania game, how powerful is Dracula? How powerful are vampires in general? Are there more vampires apart from Dracula and his son? How are they made?

It's funny to constantly see these threads made by people who seem to bee too illiterate to watch a simple cartoon.
>>

I didn't say science doesn't exist, I sad the world runs on it, which is clearly implied unless Drac's wife was making shit up about medicine and that observatory in his castle was a prop.

The Netflix series seemed pretty pro christian to me
>God does indeed exist in this world
>hates evil (denied protection from demons to bishop)
>actual priests are pretty good guys who are willing to help, the ones who tried to kill the speaker were literally hired thugs
>holy things are required for killing demons
>Trevor's whip is literally blessed by God to kill demons
Hell, the Archbishop could have been a pretty good guy, considering what the Bishop of Gresit said about having "differences
>>
>>383610280
Dracula is literally evil incarnate in the castlevania universe.

Just because that one guy from the church was bad didn't mean the whole church was bad. They even made a point to bring up all the innocents who were being dragged in for no reason, and that one guy who could still make holy water.

What's interesting is the demon's speech at the end before he kissed the priest. "God exists and he hates you", this god seems alright
>>
>>383610280
Dracula is pretty much Satan.
He commands demons, vampires, werewolves, skeletons, zombies and all other kinds of evil creatures you can imagine.
He also has access to magic and can never be killed for good.

Dracula made a pact with death to become immortal, this also made him a sort of foundation of dark magic in the setting, his very existence, rather than anything he actively does causes the dead to rise from their graves and monsters to crawl out of the shadows. In terms of power he exercises biblical level plagues a few times, while normal vampires are simply superhuman skilled in magic, they are not normally demigods like him. normal vampires are born from vampire bites, Dracula in paticuler stole another vampires soul during the ritual in which he made the pact with death.

>>

Dracula isn't evil incarnate. It's Castlevania (his Castle), that is the conduit of all evil and creates everything, including Dracula. Play AoS and get the 100% ending.

he lost his wife to disease while he was off crusading, which drove him to abandon god and the church and recluse for a long time, then he found a new girl and she was, as you see burned as a witch which turned him against humanity, the curse he enacted then has lingered ever since, and whenever he is brought back to life, the curse and all the monsters come back as well without any action from him anymore.
>>
>he's going to spend the rest of eternity stuck on earth

Well no, the point is that Dracula is going fucking bananas and will be indiscriminately wiping humanity out so he's a sympathetic villain. Before he dies in game Alucard reveals to him Lisa's final wishes and Dracula becomes remorseful about everything he's done.

>>383611000
>implied
It was directly talked about if I'm thinking of the same scene. The Arch Bishop and another Church Figure are talking during Lisas execution. The other Church guy is questioning why the Arch Bishop did what he did, in a way that he's trying to make him understand how it's not 100% right. And at one point he says he's been studying Chemistry and immediately the Arch Bishop shoots him a "the fuck nigga?" look which shuts up the other Church figure due to fear of execution. Further hinting that the Arch Bishop and Bishop are ruling the people via demagoguery.
>>
>>383611000
What did you expect, with Ennies being the head writer?
>>
>>383611021
Since Dracula had not yet died/lost his human body before meeting Trevor, he made a son which inherited some of his dark powers with a normal human woman named Lisa. Lisa was burned to the stake for wanting Dracula's dick however which turned Dracula into the mustache twirling villain that he is in the series.

Alucard however assisted to his mother's death and her last word was to not hate humans for what they have done because they're just a miserable species already.

The scientific method itself is incompatible with Christianity on a fundamental level. Christianity relies on faith to determine whether its dogma is true, whereas the scientific method is used to create theoretical models based on empirical evidence and even THEN doesn't prove that anything is true.

In Symphony of the Night, where we get the backstory about his wife Lisa. The Netflix series involves events from CV3 and Symphony of the Night (at least the flashbacks from that game).

Heck, Drac reveals himself a pretty decent dude- underneath it all- at the end of SotN, saying that he deserved death and had made a mistake. This was one of the first hints, too, that the Castle, given to him by Satan, was the real enemy of the series, constantly resurrecting Dracula and sending him once again on a genocidal killing spree. In 1999, Julius Belmont figures this out and tries to kill the Castle while Sypha Belnades' descendant, Yoko, seals the Castle within a solar eclipse. But that is a story (Aria of Sorrow) for another time.

But they never turn the scientific method towards specifically Catholic beliefs, such as God's miracles.

You're making the mistake most people do. "Science" does not mean "the facts and models about how the universe works". It means the process of using the scientific method to test a hypothesis using evidence, and determining if the evidence refutes the hypothesis or does not. This process is incompatible with any faith-based religion.
>>
>>383611000
It's implied by the fact that Arch Bishop is drawn as the most disgusting looking figure in the cartoon. He's a giant fat fuck with a double chin the size of babby's head and he seems to be low energy and barely moving.

Bishop of Gesrit talks about him with disgust which you could assume to be because he's not "pious" (crazy) enough, but since the event Arch-Bishop dies at is literally celebrating Lisa's death, i doubt their views misalign that much

It's more likely that Arch-bishop is just corrupt as fuck with the way he's portrayed.

When religion/science exist in the same world in fiction, it's really not a big deal. It's interesting and it's fun to watch because in FICTION, the religion can have actual tangible existence. There can be demons, magic powers, blessings from gods, etc. And that can clash with science and it's inventions and cleverness.

But in the real world, if anything religions claim to be true actually does exist, it ceases to be religion. Because that's how it works.

Science is the study of the empirical. There have been attempts throughout history to reconcile this but they've always been people too ahead of their time. From Thoth, and Pythagoras, up the line to Steiner and Cayce. I see where you're coming from, but science is not anathema to religion. Science is born out of numerology which is law from God. This becomes harder to reconcile when you draw the boundary between what is God and what is of the material or cosmic forces if you will, but it's like the Heisenburg Principle of Uncertainty. The more you try to measure the momentum of something, the less certain you can actually be of its position. I disagree with anthroposophy for the same reasons you disagree with what I'm saying. But it's not because "God is ineffable." As Cayce said, if it's of the cosmic force it's not inherently of God, but the cosmic force IN MOTION is God. We're only now beginning to tap into these sciences with the advent of experiments into the zeno effect and whatnot.

The last chronological event to occur in the original continuity is that Olrox tried to assume the power of Chaos, and Death is who opposed him seeing him as a traitor and pretender of Dracula, which to me would imply the two entities are separate to some extent.

The gist of the series is that Dracula was a man that made a deal with the devil to obtain the power to spite god and not die (hell, he became Death's best buddy), largely because his wife (not Lisa) died. Dracula's softened by a woman named Lisa whom gives birth to a half-vampire son, Alucard, not too long before she is killed for being a witch (debatable if she was in the games), which pretty much decides that Dracula will never let himself have a heart again, even if he could. Every century, the Castle brings Dracula back from undeath (though sometimes humans can call him forth quicker, albeit in a weaker state). Eventually one of the Belmont family's descendants figures out that the castle is the real enemy, as Dracula keeps coming back with seemingly no memory of lessons learned (rarely) over the course of their struggle.

Lament of Innocence -> Castlevania 3 (Netflix series adapts this) -> Curse of Darkness -> Castlevania Adventure \ Belmont's Revenge -> Castlevania I & II -> Harmony of Dissonance -> Rondo of Blood & Symphony of the Night -> Order of Eclessia -> Bloodlines -> Portrait of Ruin -> Aria of Sorrow & Dawn of Sorrow.

There are other games but they don't necessarilly follow continuity, save loosly (implied that some characters are related to the Belmonts, etc). Exception is Castlevania Legends where Sonia Belmont and Alucard get it on and bring Trevor Belmont into the world but for reasons beyond my understanding this has been outright declared uncanon.

It'seems likely that Chaos requires an avatar, someone who can assume the mantle of King Of The Night, and Dracula was merely the best candidate. Olrox wanted to become King of the Night, but since he wasn'the Dracula or his reincarnation, it probably wouldn't have worked.

Characters always seem to comment on fog around the castle. I think it's sort of a bubble that shows up over time (Bloodlines and Portrait of Ruin aren't Dracula's Castle for parts of the game- fairly sure it's the same deal in Belmont's Revenge). Belmonts stop it quick enough and the Castle doesn't really take hold in the real world as a threat.

Exception being Lords of Shadow reboot, where a lot of the usual rules don't apply.

How the fuck is dracula even this powerful anyway. In real lore vampires are never this strong, like, the best they can do is flying over to you and bite you in the neck.

In the series canon, he was a human during the Crusades (i.e. not the historical Dracula) whom acquired the Crimson Stone, a magical gem which grants him considerably more power and an army of monsters. The Black Stone, also acquired by him, binds Death to him (though I think they're pretty good buds now and Drac doesn't have to force Death to do anything anymore).

Quit being retarded, the show doesn't even come close to saying this. The only bad things about the Christian church in Wallachia are the shitholes running it. Shit, if anything, some of the mythos holds up - an actual priest made some holy water that burned the flesh of demons.

I'd love to see someone try, actually. It'd be cool if scientists in a setting like that could actually find the "magic" with a microscope going down to the quantum level or something. Dracula is magic wielder who also masters science, which is a pretty refreshing break from magicians who are clueless about technology. It would be dope seeing a regular scientist try to make a technological magic wand or something. Or a "magic attractor" he sticks on his chest that lets him access magic in some capacity.

If you are taking science to simply mean "how do you do X", then yeah it can be explained with science. The exact methods involved have to have some sort of structure, which is why it takes Dracula a year to raise that army.

But if you take it to mean that everything has a precise, logical explanation, then science can't explain shit. Stuff like holy water defies rational explanation.

Did he miss the part in castlevania 3 where they killed dracula? Instead of piddling about for 2 episodes before anything really happens? The entire 1st episode was entirely too long for copy paste of what SotN told you in a single boss fight. Episode 2 was literally just
>speakers are so great, the bishop is so evil, trevor has given up so expect a comeback soon
for 20~ fucking minutes.
These episodes really are just twice as long as needed. 4 spent far too much time on the descent to the coffin chamber. Even then roughly 7 minutes are spent on talking to alucard and fighting him.

Religious superstition is bad because of the power its followers surrender to religious authorities. No one should realistically care about anyone wanting to observe religious practices without involving themselves in organized entities or establishments. That's completely different. Right but saying that two things are indistinguishable to me and saying that two things are essntially the same to me are ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THING.

If I am colorblind and cannot distinguish between purple and red, then those two colors are essentially to same TO ME. That is not to say that there is not difference between these to colors as fact, but that I, personally, can perceve no differences between purple and red.

That Dracula got it on with a village woman named Lisa, had a half-vampire son named Adrian Fahrenheit Trepes whom eventually opposes his father and calls himself Alurcard somewhere after Lisa is killed by villagers?

That is what I was referring to. Dracula having a wife and her death being the catalyst for his seeking out vampirism some way or the other is a bit of cliche to say the least, but I was referring to the source material for this plot in the Netflix series: the background information given to us in flashbacks in SotN.
>>

But it's likely coming from SOTN since it's a Castlevania series, not a Dracula seriesm

Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here’s a quick test: Have you ever lied, stolen, or used God’s name in vain? Jesus said,
“Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
If you have done these things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart,
and the Bible warns that one day God will punish you in a terrible place called Hell.
But God is not willing that any should perish. Sinners broke God’s Law and Jesus paid their fine.
This means that God can legally dismiss their case:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Then Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death. Today, repent and trust Jesus, and God will give you eternal life as a free gift.
Then read the Bible daily and obey it. God will never fail you.

>New age
The concept of science being a byproduct of God's plan goes way back.
Religions and royalty chiefly suppressed things that called into question their narrative, not all science. Vice versa there's never been a case where science tells anyone God or the supernatural doesn't exist, they just ask where's the proof. It is possible to disprove the validity of a falsehood by calling into question its supposed facts, but it is scientifically impossible to prove a negative. There is no evidence that God doesn't exist, where exactly would you draw the omniscient information required to make such a conclusion? Even if you somehow gathered all the information on human history, if not life in the universe, and somehow came to the confirmation it is likely an idea imagined up, that still doesn't prove there is no such actual thing.

>>383629092
I think you've mistaken flat Earth with the Geocentric model. I can't see how any spread of religion would get done if most of the missionaries feared falling off the edge.

We know that his wife was burned at the stake with accusations of witchcraft. Dracula's boredom at just existing and being amused by someone brave enough to talk sass to him is also something that appears in the games. I think they cobbled the rest themselves, but it makes sense. Honestly its really hard to imagine a woman falling in love with a monster like him, so they had to make it out that her goals were really quite noble.

But yeah all the stuff with Dracula, Lisa and Alucard lines up smoothly with the stuff we know from the games.

Play Akumajou Densetsu, it makes it far less frustrating. Personally I like the challenge for the most part besides the falling blocks and doppelganger. The characters feel like natural extensions of the item based gameplay of 1, and the levels are really damn good. The difficulty curve is much smoother than in 1 as well, it gradually becomes more challenging instead of being easy until level 5 and then suddenly becoming tough.

The art is the only good part of the show, to be honest, and that doesn't even include the actual animation which is like 10 frames per second in that last fight scene which otherwise could have been great. The acting is somewhat decent by anime standards which means it's bad by any other standards, and the writing is bad unless you like it when characters repeat themselves constantly.

I guess I just expected more fluid animation and less filler, considering the entire season is literally less than two hours long.
