My game goes from 40 fps to 5 fps after about 20 hours of playing. I've tried clearing my save file cache but it's still awful.

I've managed to maintain a tolerable frame rate by starting a new save and just using console commands for everything i need, blueprints included, but is there a better way?

I'm following the game for some time, even had it bought earlier, but I thought that honestly , this game won't be released from EA ever.

Man I hate the cartoony artstyle. This could have been the best semi-horror game ever.
>>
>>383583482

An EA game "releasing" doesn't mean you'll have a finished product. They may just finish the story mode (which is what most of their updates have been) and never fix the optimization issues or shit like >>383576468.

Funny story: They were supposed to do that shit this month and now it's been pushed to be "maybe one of these months". Every time someone tells you to check the trello they are a shill. It is well known they were supposed to release the game fully twice now and the trello lies constantly.

Everything looks so god damn goofy and laughably.
>>
>>383580192
I restarted my game exclusively for this and it didn't happen until reaching the lava castle. I also managed to evade reapers for the whole game so that may have something to do with it
>>
>>383584417
There's a big disclaimer on the trello roadmap saying everything there is subject to change. It's just supposed to give you a general idea of what is planned.

Yes they've pushed back dates before, but this time they seem to be on schedule. The story content is like 90% done already, after that it's just optimization and polish time.

Stalkers arent that bad, take some bait or metal with you and drop it if they go after you it will distract them. If you have the seaglider you should be able to outrun them easily.
Now Crabsquids and Warpers those are scary
>>
>>383590881
the stalker (the creature you are referring too) are usually occupied playing with random shit or chasing other fishes, unless they start groaning at you, you are fine, you can easily outrun them

They gave it an Overshield in VotD. It's a basic shield that you get by default that has to be depleted before you even take any hull damage, Reaper needs to hit three times just to take it down. But just hitting SR and going past will get you through any Reaper bobbing about so I rarely ever get hit by one to begin with.

Going through the Kelp Zones is easiest. Crabsquid section is wider but full of Crabsquid, other one is narrower but the Overshield will tank any scraping hit you might take now anyway so still easy even before that, rest of the way is plenty wide so all you need to worry about is Sea Dragons and Lava Leaches. SR takes care of one, Defense Shield/removing manually takes care of the other.

The farthest I've gotten in the game's "plot" is the Sunbeam getting shot down, otherwise the most advanced thing I've built was a Moon Pool.

Only thing you can do is install the game on an ssd, and there's still some stuttering even then.

If you're running into bad stuttering/etc. after a couple dozen hours on a save file you can clear your cache files. The downside is that this also resets loot spawns, though that's usually not a huge deal by the time you're that far into the game.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/264710/discussions/0/144512875331190015/

It's caused the voxel terrain system which loads the map in chunks like Minecraft. Terrain modification was cut from the game, but the devs have kept the voxel system in for now because they use it to design the map. They have talked about baking the map into a static mesh once they've more or less finalized the map design. Hopefully that will happen in the next 3-4 months as they're doing their big optimization pass.
>>
>>383591405

>>
>>383591583
>I mean I kinda like not being at the top in Subnautica but it feels like he's suggesting being at the top is a bad thing IRL
That's the liberal mindset for you, all competition is bad, so making a game where you are at the bottom rung of society and cannot climb any higher is his dream
>>
>>383591827
Nah, there's still pretty much nothing to do in the game and absolutely no real threats.
>>
>>383591827
There should be decent amount of new stuff for you to explore/do but it's a personal call. New saves should be compatible with updates from now on though according to devs.
>>
>>383591827
Unless you're really itching to play you're better off just waiting at this point. It's supposed to leave EA in Sep/Oct. At that point you'll be able to play the story start to finish and the game should run smoother.
>>
>>383591105

That retard doesn't even work there anymore. He was talking completely out of his ass.
The game is simply not about fighting fish, if you want to fight fish, you're playing the wrong game. The aggressive fish are simply obstacles to avoid, and quite easily too.

>torpedoes

I honestly don't care that the developer posted that shit about why he hates guns but what irks me is 3 things

1. the people who deny he ever said it
2. the people who deny it was a game dev who said it
3. the people who say he doesn't work there anymore

I mean...all of these 3 things are immediately proven wrong in literally two seconds of searching
>>
>>383592351
Originally there was a terraforming mechanic in the game but it caused massive performance issues and never really did much of worth, especially for the performance cost. They since removed it but are currently still using the voxels because they still are tweaking the map a lot so baking the map right now would be a waste of effort. Once the map is finalized they're doing it however.
>>
>>383576940
I wrote a little .bat file that deletes those folders for you, just run it everytime before you start the game. You might've to change it a little, depending on your file paths and/or number of saves.

https://pastebin.com/Xh7dbsjH
>>
>>383592351
There was originally plans for terraforming by moving dirt around. but it was a huge source of lag and really didn't add anything to the game. They've been slowly removing it for a while now. Last I checked Crashfish can still blow holes in the terrain.

>>
>>383592351
Originally the game was going to be underwater Minecraft with terrain deformation and procedural generation.

Procedural generation was cut early on because they couldn't get the level of visual fidelity they wanted out of it.

Terraforming was cut much more recently for performance reasons and the fact that being able to dig tunnels and make islands kind of broke the game flow.

Honestly, it's not even the creatures in subnautica that are scary. They all look retarded and cartoonish, the only reason this game is scary is because of the fear of the unknown and the deep, dark water. If you removed all fauna from this game, it would still be spooky, because deep dark water is inherently spooky

On an unrelated note, I don't understand why the devs thought it would be a good idea to make you travel to the floating island for standard Alterra blueprints that should be in the hard drive of the builder.

I'd imagine that one is mostly a vehicle to drive you forward and explore the floating island instead of just building a big base first thing, because after that you get sent onward by diaries and shit found there. Then again I'd argue you wouldn't be playing this if you didn't want to explore in the first place, but eh.

The ones in the lost river and grand reef are certainly doable. For the ones in the void I'll have to lure above ground using the cyclops or seamoth then stun and kill with the prawn. Leviathans were made to be bullied.

I prefer a empty spook area over invisible walls really. The game pretty much takes place on a shallow plateau surrounded by deep dark depths filled with pelagic spoops like the Ghost. Go into the Void with a Cyclops once and you'll immediately be able to tell afterwards if you're close to a likely Void section.

removing hunger/thirst removes the incentive to build a lot of things though

aquariums and gardens become virtually useless, and the vehicles become less essential when you can swim infinitely with no need to eat/drink

They're still rebalancing it. What they need to do is add a shock thing like the Seamoth has, add torpedoes, and make it so that stalkers and bonesharks and the like just completely fucking ignore it, or at least make it so that they can't actually hurt it directly.

Yeah.
People say it wasn't added because they were afraid it would invalidate the seamoth and cyclops, but I think that's just the devs being lazy.
It's be really easy to make them all work.
>seamoth: tiny sub, most fragile, but cheap, fast and easily replaced.
>draconis: small and skinny, no windows or anything to make it extremely resistant to attacks and pressure. Great for deep seadiving, getting into caves and getting around in dangerous places, but limited room inside (as in enough space for a far, some storage and that's about it)
>cyclops: mobile base, able to carry PRAWN and seamoth, but too big to be able to use in tight places
>manta: bigger mobile base, can transport draconis and/or seamoth/prawn. More resistant than the cyclops, but bigger and slower as well
>the really big one: expensive as fuck to make, but you'll never need anything else. Can carry a draconis and cyclops, outfitted with all sorts of neat shit like scanners, fuck tons of torpedoes and so on. Can take on a sea dragon and come out on top, but not easy for one man to operate. Relatively impractical unless you want to go into the void, abyss or other big deep scary places they hopefully add. Looks great, esspecially if you want to do a one man version of Atlantis, which of course you so

I don't care how much time they would take to add, it'd be worth it

Storms generate sea currents when they're over the water, so it's pretty simple to think that they would also end up tossing people around above water as well as below water. I just think it'd be neat for there to be something that actually forces people to go deeper underwater, rogue waves being one of them. Something like this shit would most definitely fuck over anything even a thousand meters deep, so you'd end up having to either hide in caves or make your base even deeper.

Well if you compare the size of the sensors on top of the Draconis, it looks like it's supposed to be as big or even bigger than the Cyclops.

I picture it being made to operate in a future abyssal plain zone, where the pressure outside the vehicle is lethal to the player.
It could be similar in length to the Cyclops, but have a single deck and no PRAWN/Seamoth bay. Instead it could deploy ROVs similar to the scanner room drones.
The ROVs could have a robot arm and be able to use tools to gather/build/repair/etc. You could use the ROVs to build a base then dock the Draconis to the base without ever entering the water.

Not being able to swim freely at all would really reinforce the claustrophobia of being in a sub, and the absolute inhospitality of the environment you're in.

Having said that. I want to know what kind of mode I should play. I tend to play games only through once but I want to do as much of a 100% run as possible and I don't know what is the most balanced/best way to play the game in its current shape.

If I pick the "wrong" mode I might just finish it and then never pick up the game ever again to try out other stuff.
>>
>>383599215
Play survival mode, it's the "normal" mode. The game explains pretty clearly what each mode does.

The game is definitely the best if you go in completely blind and avoid the wiki/etc. as much as possible.
>>
>>383599215
>I tend to play games only through once but I want to do as much of a 100% run as possible
I'd argue you're better off waiting until 1.0 then. There's still some content left to be added but it's intended to be released in a couple months.
That said, survival is the best one and going blind for your first experience is the best way.
>>
>>383599215
Also, the game isn't quite finished yet, so be aware that you will eventually hit a wall where you can't progress the story and further, and future updates may or may not be compatible with your save.

Summer sale and recent updates make for temporarily recurring threads, they come and go in waves like most. It's almost complete, just a few bits of content and then mostly optimization and bug fixes to be done.

It's very close to feature complete, but not quite. Late this month is the internal feature complete goal, but I believe they're planning to hold back adding the story ending until the release in Sep/Oct. They're going to spend 2 or 3 months working on polish and optimization between August and October.

Right now you can get about 80-90% through the story, but the last couple of pieces aren't there yet.

Right now it goes by which power source you have built first. So if you built thermal first, then bio and then Nuclear, it will drain the thermal reactor's energy output first. Then when thermal's output can't keep up with the drain, bio pitches in and when bio is empty or at its limits, nuclear starts. There is currently no way to change this order other than to scrap and rebuild your reactors in the desired order and you can't tell the base to only use one power source till it is completely empty before drawing from the next one.

It was pretty fucking stupid though for a while though. Until you manage to unlock and build a Seamoth, a Moonpool, an upgrade console, and the torpedo upgrades, your only defenses against hostile creatures are to run or try to stab it with your knife. There's an in-game reason why, and the creatures have been balanced a lot since the game first came out, but it was still bullshit for a while.

the knife is all you need though, also propulsion cannon with acid mushrooms/crashfish is really strong, stasis rifle, ramming with vehicles, and sticking floaters on stuff are also all really effective ways of fighting, literally git gud
>>
>>383602319

>>

just pick up a mushroom and fire it at something, it explodes on impact. I've never actually bothered with it myself though because the knife is stupidly strong so there's probably some trick to making it work
>>
>>383602319
>the knife is all you need though

Bullshit. It's fine against stalkers, but it's difficult (beyond the git gud level) to outswim a sand or bone shark, let alone several of them and knife them without taking damage yourself. The amount of damage those creatures deal now is less than it used to be, though so I'll grant that.

> also propulsion cannon with acid mushrooms/crashfish is really strong,
>sticking floaters on stuff

I've actually never considered these

>stasis rifle,

I forgot to mention the stasis rifle in my last post. It's pretty handy, but when you consider the reason the dev said he wouldn't put so much as a spear gun (a tool that wouldn't be out of place in an ocean diving game) in, but instead put something that freezes creatures in time so you can swim up and stab them, it's kinda ridiculous.

>ramming with vehicles

Used to be a viable strategy, but requires you to unlock the vehicle, and nowadays does more damage to the vehicle than to the creature.
>>383602749
The acid mushroom bursts on impact and does damage. Not enough to actually hurt anything, but enough to scare them away I'd imagine.
>>
Is there a harpoon gun in this game yet?
>>
>>383592340
If Xing don't work, that means that you haven't Xing enough.
>>
>>383603289
>being actually bad
stalkers, sand sharks and bone sharks all attack the same, they charge you if they're out of biting range and they bite if they're in range, while charging they can't turn very well and they take some time to recover afterwards, so bait them into doing that then strafe it and stab the fuck out of them, doing this once is always enough to damage it enough to make it run away. If it gets in biting range then either tank a few hits while stabbing it until it runs away or use the seaglide to swim the fuck away and bait a charge attack

If you're fighting multiple then keep track of them all (sound is super helpful for this since they telegraph the charge attack with a roar and you can hear where it's coming from), keep them from getting too close to you and then just bait charge attacks

If you feel like baiting charge attacks repeatedly is cheesy then you can manfight stuff by swimming around the critter vertically since they're pretty slow at turning up and down
>>

RAMMING SPEED!

>This is silly because technically you can ram at any speed. It would make more sense to announce an actual speed, using units of measure, appropriate to the amount of damage you wish to inflict. Shouting "Ramming speed!" only serves to alert everyone on deck to the impending event, allowing them to assume crash positions or otherwise brace for impact. This of course renders the next mandatory shouted command redundant at best.

I was thinking of building a water filter, but it's much easier to just farm a bunch of Marble Melons. They give like +22 Food and +15 Water per melon and breaking one gives you four seeds. 1 growbed is all you need plus more for emergencies. Only problem is they decay and aren't very portable.

/v/ is always going to promote some bullshit about building in a 'comfy' spot or in the center of the koosh or grand reef, but realistically the best strategy is to make a single giant base for your needs and comfort, then very small outposts in other zones as they are needed.

Because of that, building as close to the center of the map as possible is the best strategy due to safeness and ease of access to every zone/teleporter. Handily enough, dead-center of the map or so is where Safe Shallows borders two Kelp Forests and the Grassy Plateaus zone. It is also within spitting distance of Grand Reef and right on top of Jelly Shroom caves, meaning your core base itself has swimming access to literally 5 zones if needed. Building right on the edge of safe shallows also means the 'top' of your base frequently will only be 20-30m below sealevel to abuse the shit out of solar, while the 'bottom' areas can be as deep as 120-130m, meaning you can build an entire dock area for your Cyclops and Moonpools without worrying about them scratching the sea floor. Not to mention, being attached to 5 zones right from the start of the game makes gathering a fucking breeze initially, especially since it means you have access to diamonds, gold and tons of silver, which can be huge roadblocks to early crafting.

The only thing of value in it is the potential for Modification Station fragments, but those can also be found in one of the Blood Kelp wrecks and in the Mountain wreck. The only reason to ever go to dunes is if RNG fucks you right up the ass and only gives you a single Mod fragment from both other wrecks, forcing you to go to Dunes for the last one.

PRAWN suit arm parts also spawn in there, usually the drill, so it's worth going there. Also all you have to do is skirt the bottom and head directly west from the Mushroom Forest and you'll find the wreck with no Reapers.

There's also a Precursor Cache in the meteor impact crater that's well worth finding.

I just got this game last night, and played for ~3 hours.

I didn't use any manual or guides so I'm just winging it. I repaired the escape pod, built that mobile vehicle maker thing, and I'm currently trying to get the blueprints for the seamoth(?) or whatever it's called.

I went and poked around the Aurora for a bit, is there a way inside it? I stuck around the outside scanning crates and didn't see any obvious openings.

Things are going alright so far and I'm having a lot of fun.

Anyways thanks for the advice. Red grass area, here I come.

Cyclops is shit. Devs ruined it. It's now a waste of resources. Just use the titanium and lithium to build actual bases in the Grand Reef. There are thermal vents nearby, it costs less materials, it's not going to get fucked up, and you can build more things in it and have more storage. There is literally 0 (zero) reason to build the Cyclops.

I used to make it before I ever fixed the Aurora. Just hitting up the mushroom and mountain biomes gave it to you. Now I never make it. It's fucking pointless.

Because of the nature of the thing, it had to be fucking invincible to everything to be worth it. It's too big and clunky, costs an assload of materials, and requires a lot of upkeep with power cells. Even with ion power cells it is barely worth it.

They really, REALLY need to buff it to make up for the nerfs or it'll remain useless. I'm talking about making it work exactly like a moonpool AND giving it a special fruit that can only be grown inside it that gives +10/10 at the very least. It's awful as a mobile base, it's awful to explore with, it's completely invalidated by the PRAWN + Moonpool, and it can't go a lot of places because of its immense size. No sir, I do not want current Cyclops.

You must've depleted entire planet's supply of quartz.
>>
>>383617831
You'd be surprised at how much there is. Not him, but I use quartz like a madman in my bases that go down rather than up. It feels rare at the beginning and certain things need way too much glass like a small window costing the same as a entire glass corridor but both small and large deposits are all over the map.
>>
Its good to see Subnautica threads have finally become more popular. Go figure people still whine about the weapons though. Guaranteed 90% of the COD babbies that complain have never even fired a real gun before but need it so bad in muh video gayms.
>>
>>383617754
Does building over the water not deplete the strength value?
>>

sorry i let you down anon

>>383618280
strangely enough, no. at some point, the structural integrety value just disappeared

Mountains Island has plenty. Just make sure you approach from the correct direction.

They need to finish working on the Spike Trap and Rock Puncher.
>>
>>383618776
If you don't mind the lack of performance, it's finished in July.
If you do, it's done around autumn.

I really hope they'll keep adding new things after release.
>>
>>383619603
They are, one of their to-do things is to start planning an expansion, plus there's at least two creatures that still need to be put in and three biomes in the works.
>>
>>383612592
how are you building those up? Are you flying?
>>
>>383619603
Devs have talking about adding in content after 1.0 and they're also planning to start work on an expansion after the game's come out.
>>
>>383618725
They've been using the lack of guns to shitpost since the game was released. If they haven't stopped now they aren't going to stop ever. How new r u
>>

>>ANY REPLAY VALUE?
>No.
I'd slightly disagree, It is fun to do some other runs that handicap you. I'll certainly start a new game when it is finally finished though.
>>
>>383620017
im simply stacking them; i build one multipurpose room, then two on top of it. to do that, i have to be "outside" of the one im in, so i simply build a glass corridor out to allow me to see above the multipurpose room im currently in. then rinse and repeat. takes forever
>>
>>383620341
Ahh, didn't know the glass corridor could be built through.
>>
>>383620341
Sneaky. I've tried to build out of the water but you can only reach like one or two high from standing ontop of the escape pod.

They only start to actively try to hunt and murder you once you're a fair bit later into the game.

don't read this if you don't want to know about the warpers

the warpers exist to purge anything infected by a specific disease. if you have scanned yourself already, you will notice you are infected with something. at some point, that infection will progress, and all warpers will treat you as a threat that needs to be killed. you will learn more later in the game, i don't want to spoil absolutely everything
