Oculus Rift 2 confirmed.
Slowpoke here, what happened to the first one??

nothing

OR2 is for sure just around the corner. For those of you that own an OR, what are some glaring flaws that make it not worth getting?
Keep in mind I'm only interested in using it for porn, and playing Illusion VR games.
>>383474694
For porn the biggest flaw is the price.
Also, resolution isn't enough, I strongly suggest waiting for the second gen
How much are they normally?
>>383475528
Launched at $599 + $199, later price dropped to $499 + $99.
>>383475050
The second gen will have much higher hardware requirements. Forget about using it without a Threadripper or Skylake-X CPU.
>>383476865
Fine by me, I'm still using an ancient 760ti build since I haven't had a reason to upgrade.
When VR stops being a meme I'll shell out 2000 ameribux for a godlike PC to go with it
Any good vr porn games?

They dropped the price because they realize that Microsoft is going to be very competitive with their headsets launching end of this year and early next year. The Acer headset is already $299 for the dev kit, and then you add $99 for the motion controllers. I'd be surprised if HTC still maintains their stance of "lol but we're so much better so it doesn't matter if we don't drop the price, stupid goys wills till buy us".
>>383474694
I got to use one for free because of my work.
I donno man, VR is surprisingly fucking impressive. The touch controllers are fantastic, and the headset's pretty light and comfy.
I mean really, VR is really fucking impressive. I would have been the first one to shitpost about VR being a gimmick, but the tech really works, and it works well. The first little robot-in-a-room demo they throw at you blows your mind.
Here are the problems:
1.) price,
2.) so few games
3.) driver bugs
4.) programs that have tacked-on support usually tend to crash
5.) You have to be standing, or if sitting, far enough away from your desk and the sensors to properly register. You can't just sit in front of your computer, put on the goggles and go, you have to fucking move way back, or stand up, or something. And that makes it a chore sometimes.
6.) God forbid you have to move the sensors, you have to set that stuff up again each time if they're not in the same exact position/orientation. It's very frustrating to have to recalibrate because I just don't want those god forsaken sensors sitting on my god damn desk all the time in front of my multi-monitor setup.
>>383480614
Yeah vr is impressive for the first 5 minutes but when the woooow factor wears out it becames annoying really fast
>>383480614
#1 is not a problem now at least.
#2, is also not that big of a problem now. It could really be worse. We actually have some good games like Echo Arena, Robo Recall, Onward, Mage's Tale, etc.
#3 not everyone gets so many bugs but yes, there are a lot of early adopter software pains all the time which means less technically inclined people might not be well suited for getting the stuff yet.
#6 depends entirely on your setup. If you actually set it up properly you can be tracked pretty much everywhere. But that does mean you have to mount the sensors in the corners of your room high up which is a pain. The setup in first gen is a pain, that's true.
>>383474694
>what are some glaring flaws that make it not worth getting?
As someone who owned a DK2 and now a CV1, the resolution is still nice for me. The problem is the games. There are none. You've got tech demos and horrible indie money-grabs. The only things worth playing in VR are social apps and cockpit games.
The porn isn't as impressive as you may have been led to believe. Especially the 180 degree stuff shot with 3D cameras. If the model is in the perfect spot moving just right, it can look amazing. But 70% of the time she isn't.
The animated porn is 90% trash. Absolute garbage. I'm probably picky because I'm an animator myself, but the stuff I've seen (which is most of what's popular now) is just not worth it. To put my opinion in perspective though, I also think most SFM stuff is shit. If you enjoy SFM porn, you might enjoy the amateur VR animated porn, but the VR stuff is on an even lower level than the SFM porn. I don't know why all the world's worst animators are drawn to working in VR, but they are.
The most enjoyable adult experience I've had in VR was VRGirlz. It's not animated and it's not something I'd fap to, but it was interesting and impressive for what it is. It's full, HD scans of women's bodies which you can look around and enlarge. You can see what it's like to have a nipple the size of your desk in front of you.
Don't get VR just for porn. Unless you're rich, you WILL regret it.
>>383481032
>no games
Stop this meme. We've got arguably decent games these days that aren't all indie shit and tech demos. They're not that many, but we have enough of them now that it's arguably not a problem anymore.
>>383481163
Especially for someone coming into VR new. They'd have a good log of games to get through before they ever get bored, unlike those of us who ordered early and got drip fed those games.
>>383480898
I wouldn't say 5 minutes. I bought paranormal activity, was a surprisingly good game, does VR pretty flawlessly and kept me wanting to play it.
that being said unless they make it less bulky, do something about having to stand up and move away from your computer.
Honestly, I just want to sit down, play a game, and have fun. I don't want to have to do complicated setup.
Still, you're somewhat right in that this will never hit mainstream unless they make very compact goggles and don't the need the complex sensor setups.
The sensors, user positioning, and goggle size (despite being light as it is) are all major problems for mass adoption.
I just can't see it ever breaking out unless they somehow figure out how to overcome those technological hurdles.
>>383481424
Microsoft's headsets are already overcoming a lot of these hurdles nigga. Google it. The only setup you need to do is plug in the headset and you're ready to go. Oculus and HTC are going to be BTFO when these headsets come out, though Oculus maybe less so than HTC if HTC doesn't decide to price drop.
So how is VR if I just want to use KB/M controls
>>383482157
Pretty shit because then you're missing the point of VR in letting you do stuff with natural and intuitive 1:1 actions. You wouldn't be able to, say, walk up to an enemy, grab their head with your left hand, use your right hand to point a gun directly under their chin, and then blowing their brains out, not without QTE type shit. But you can do that with VR and the motion controls.
welp. got one on the way now.
>>383482778
Hey, you should come over to /vrg/ - Virtual Reality General.
We've got guides for stuff including the most reliable way to set up your stuff for room-scale.
>>383483135
I'm not the type who needs hand holding, especially not in technical matters. Thanks though.
>>383483509
OK. But actually though, all information on the internet including Oculus' own official stuff is not very good. We have tips from users themselves about better ways to do things. If you want to go on your own, you're probably going to waste more time.

Fuck you Amazon. That should be around £310. No fucking way I'll buy it for £90 more than yanks pay.

>"wtf why is the pound weak now"
Honestly you're lucky it's not £500. Usually the £ price is a lot higher. The vive is like $800/£1000.
>>383486797
Yeah, they're partnering with manufacturers like Acer to make VR headsets. Search "Microsoft mixed reality", but be aware it's not really mixed reality, it's just VR.
>>383486989
>vote to destroy your own economy
That's like saying it wouldn't be worth leaving the soviet union because of the few years of instability immediately after leaving. Any negative effects brexit has is 95% produced by international finance directly and indirectly bullying them for resisting the globalist agenda.
>>383487585
>EU is like the soviet union
yeah and drumpf is hitler
>>383474429
I would have pulled the trigger for 400€
I would not buy one even if it was $100.
VR is dead.

This to be quite honest.

Holy shit is that price real? This makes me excited for the future of VR. The Oculus + controllers cost me like 800 when I bought them.
