Yes, society is to blame. Before organized society. Or among animals, rape is just a regular occurrence. Because all that mattered was perpetuating the species. Not courtship and feelings and such.
The same is true for children, actually. A psychological study of children who had sexual encounters with an adult and the conclusion was it wasn't the sex itself that traumatized them but the stigma attached to it by society and all the authority figures who flip shit about it that causes the actual fear and long lasting trauma.
