Got the Princess Maker 1 and 2 pack. The combat did not age well in Princess Maker 1. I'll run through it once or maybe twice to turn my daughter into a prostitute. Any other good life manager games out there? Magical Diary 2 is in the works, I know, so I'm pretty hyped for that.

Also, if I wanted to take a whack at making my own Princess Maker clone, what would be the best engine? Part of me thinks RPG Maker could handle it perfectly, though I haven't messed around with the new one at all. Is Renpy flexible enough?

It's not really a trilogy. The game came out years ago, sold like shit, devs almost went under. Next steam sale, it blew up like mad because it got reduced in price so much and everyone got it. miniLAW is pretty good for $4. It's basically a 2D side-scrolling Judge Dredd simulator.

Couple tips if you check it out:

Don't be afraid to kill people. Repairs to your suit cost money, so don't bother trying to KO perps unless you can do so safely

Rebind the controls, the defaults kind of suck. You can only rebind controls through the main menu so far as I can tell, not during gameplay.

Still figuring out a lot of the game myself, but I've played about two hours so far and enjoyed it. It's EA, but I'd argued what's there now is worth the $4.

I personally loved Dragons Dogma, and I enjoyed the old Fallouts.
Cant say much about the other games other then Stalker, Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat are the good ones, Clear Sky is the flawed one.

Some people love the mix/match combo magic system. I thought it was a meme and I wanted old school RPG combat. I refunded it pretty quick though. I didn't like Pillars of Eternity either though because I disliked that the stat system didn't have D&D style "sweet spot" character building.

gothic 1 + 2 are 2 of the best 'open world' rpgs ever. they are real hallmarks of open world design in my opinion, and have great, believable world building (settlements have economies, they have 'cultures', they have a source of food etc). gothic 1 + 2 have the best player progression i've ever experienced in a game. you're a pussy at the start of gothic 1 getting constantly dumped on by stronger people but by the middle/end of the game you are beating the shit out of the guys who bullied you.

I've got 800 hours in LW1 but couldn't get into XCOM 2
I feel like the game mechanics clash - you have these big procedurally generated cities but you can't enjoy them because you are forced by timers. Also the gameplay (to me at least) feels less like tactical positioning simulator and more like "spam these OP abilities to kill all enemies before they can spam their OP abilities back"

But if you never played XCOM games before then you'll probably have fun. Maybe I got spoiled by Long War

Should I get Metal Gear Solid V, Stick of Truth or Dishonoured 2?

I'm not a die-hard Metal Gear Solid fan but I thoroughly enjoyed the fourth and generally appreciate stealth games.

I like the older South Park seasons and turn-based RPGs, but it feels as if a side-scrolling RPG would be very shallow and linear. Am I wrong?

The first Dishonoured ranks up there with one of my favourite games of this decade, but I've heard a lot of bad things about the sequel. How different is it from the first, and does the length of the game justify the price?

It's pretty shit. Still, any dark souls game is good, ds2 is just a garbage dark souls game. You tend to get attached to whatever ds game you play first, so please for the love of god don't become one of the DS2 vocal minority everyone fucking hates in here. They'd obnoxious fucking pricks and everyone hates them, and they hate everyone else.

I hate to say it but you might have to pirate dark souls 1. The community isn't super active anymore or anything so I don't suppose you'd be missing out on a ton of pvp invasions, but you'd still get invaded by NPCs here and there. If you can find it cheap anywhere, great get it, but if it comes down to it, pirating 1 is still less bad than playing 2 first
