Even the 1060's price is fucked

Wonder if I can sell it for a 1070 price and buy a 1070 when the craze dies out while using my 770
>>

Can you even mine enough to justify power costs these days? Higher end GPUs aren't even that efficient right?

doesn't seem to have affected my third world prices. albeit most high end stuff is sold out

weren't bitcoins basically impossible to mine with normal GPUs due to the amount of people doing it, requiring specialized hardware instead?

or is this some new coin?

>>
>>381798030
1080 and 1080Ti have GDDR5X which isn't as efficient as GDDR5. I've noticed prices have bumped slightly, but not nearly as bad as the 1060 and 1070.

Basically any currency has to be generated somehow, you cant just have infinite cash.

With Bitcoins PCs solve math shit algorhythms and they get buttcoins from that.
The more gets solved overall the less payout you get. At some point solving them isnt worth it anymore at all.

Thats how buttcoins get generated and put into the market.

Nobody cares about low end stuff like the 1050 or 560 since the performance per watt is too poor. Basically everything from the 470 to the 1070 is unobtainable, and 1080 and 1080Ti prices have been raised slightly in response as well. .

If it were a memory shortage it would effect both amd/nvidia equally.

Instead AMD cards(which are better for mining) sold out overnight and now that they're nowhere to be found, nvidia prices have been gradually going up over the last three weeks.

Miners are actually less likely to ruin their GPUs compared to gamers because they undervolt/underclock theirs while gamers overclock. It's not the temperate so much as the constant voltage.

Bitcoin had a huge surge where they went up in value something like 200% which inspired interest in the cryptocurrency market again(probably helps that most real currency is looking pretty shaky these days).

Etherium is a hot new cryptocurrency that happened to get caught in that wave and is becoming it's own thing now.

Nothing has intrinsic value.

What is the value in a dollar? Nothing inherently, it's just a piece of cotton-paper blend. It's value lies in the fact that the grocery store is willing to accept in exchange for giving your food.

Cryptocurrency is no different aside from the fact that it's value lies in speculation against other currencies and that it can be used for deepweb purchases that can't be done with normal money.

The way a currency has value is if people say it has value. It's the logic of the modern dollar. So a lot of people who wanted money decided something they made up was worth money. And they convinced other people it was worth money and that they could easily acquire it. And people, being greedy, jumped on the idea, verifying the idea of worth.

Basically, it's a pyramid scheme. Complexly, it's a bunch of monkeys on typewriters fundamentally undermining the integrity of the global economy, with the people in power doing nothing because they're technologically illiterate.

all bitcoin transactions are public

over 90% of all existing bitcoin is sitting somewhere outside of circulation, and if cashed out will crash the entire market

china has almost 50% of all hashing power and can spend coins twice by saying their transactions never happened

no exchange will actually let you cash out, or at least at the value of the coin at the time

all exchanges are timed scams - no exceptions. as soon as they have a certain amount of btc in their company wallet they will cease to exist and run away

mining altcoins is a waste of time since altcoins are mostly backed up by btc, which is worthless

btc is backed up by people willing to exchange btc for money - nothing else

nobody in this thread actually knows how bitcoin works what will happen to it in the future

ethereum is also a scam like btc

the whole thing will be banned by the gov soon so it doesnt matter

just buy a gtx 1080 ti, why wouldnt you get the best for something you will use every day for many hours

First you have to read up on the underlying technology behind crypto. It is here to stay and it will revolutionize many sectors in the coming decades.

Right now we are really in the infancy stage, it's kinda like the Internet in 1990. Everyone thought it was a cool gimmick, almost no one realized how far reaching the tech would be. Anyone who realized the potential of the Internet back then is living his life on yachts snorting cocaine off hookers assholes now.

The big big money in any major paradigm shift is made by the early adopters. As long as you get in the game now you will be up huge 10 years down the road.

>yearly mining cap gets hit 4 months early, because the spike in miners
>last quarter people just end up burning their cards without knowing this
There's only so much bitcoin and the max is 21 million and there's a yearly cap going towards that maximum. If the price cap is hit sooner in the year though the coin can drop substantially in price from the cap sellers dipping out. The other factor here is with all the new miners coming on the scene means transactions hitting more nodes and lowering the chance you are the pinged node which means less profits overall for just about everyone, which in turn makes it where you actually make less bitcoin to the point if enough miners exist it wouldn't pay for itself and in fact burn cards and shit tons of money thinking you'll end up a miner.
Also the home miner will quickly be outdated here in another year or two with this knowledge, because people build fucking server farms to mine bitcoin.

And fucking fantastic it's all over youtube, get ready for that free money hype.

Bitcoin mining is basically another word for transaction, since it's a decentralized system instead of hitting a centralized system (banking computer) it hits a miner's node (regular person) this person changes randomly to ensure encryption the miner's PC get's a payment for handling the transaction in the form of a fraction of a bitcoin, but it's a millionth of a bitcoin, the more transactions there are the more bitcoin. There's a yearly cap on bitcoin and the absolute max will be hit in about a hundred years at 21 million total. After that transaction fees will be in the form of using bitcoin itself to transfer more IE You have 10 bitcoin and you send your friend 5 you have to spend 1 to make the transaction your remainder is 4.
It's based on the proof of work concept and every bitcoin can be traced back to their point of origin the algorithm hits a cap also so no bitcoin can be created from nothing. The real threat to bitcoin is super computers and quantum computing shit that can calculate past these encryption, since the blockchain is a unit that has to be accepted by all computers with it for a bitcoin to be made in proof of work, it would take a powerful machine to brute force this entire network world wide. That's what gives it security and value.

Several government agencies have started talks about bitcoin and some manufacturers do accept bitcoin from cars to computers and even real estate in some places of the world including the some parts of the US depending on the realtor.
>>
>>381817378
what the fuck...
>>
>>381817126
The more people mining bitcoin the better value it has, because it's sought out more. The value drop is in terms of people actually making bitcoin, the more nodes the less transactions per node meaning lowered profit for the overall user. On top of this rigs built for mining will be prioritized, because of speeds. There's a fucking OS built for mining people build server farms around this shit, do you honestly think for a fucking second you're going to make money down the road as momentum picks up as a single card user without just burning a hole in your wallet from your card burning up, by keeping your shit on idle making no coins, because you're system isn't prioritized, because you're using windows and a single card with no speed that's nvidia and still think you can stop to play video games.

Fucking people in this thread are retarded as fuck overall if you haven't been reading. They don't understand the scope of how bitcoin traction is going and now that it's ending up on daily thread /v/ and youtube because gaming tags from amd sponsors might as well get your profit margins in before your card burns.

You have to get an OS made specifically for mining and multiple cards on a farm set to make thousandths of a fraction of a bitcoin.
There's fuckers out there with warehouses of super computers which are prioritized, because their speed can process more transactions.

Having a gpu going full blast with the fan on high 24/7 to mine ain't worth the noise.

This is how the economy has been run for a while now. It's a big deck of cards with false valuations.

Economics is a type of pseudoscience like tea reading or tarot cards. Economists are horribly arrogant people who believe that any new way of looking at how money and debt works is a sort of hate crime against their profession.

The only relatively "stable" coin is Bitcoin, everything else is literal garbage that relies on person who made it. Bitcoin does not.
Ethereum is dropping like a stone, because the creator of it just got hit by a truck.
And yet no one knows who the fuck actually created bitcoin, because it's an alias of Satoshi Nakamoto and no one is even sure if it's one person or a group of people or if it's even a Japanese guy to begin with.

AMD and Nvidia both have workstation cards and compute cards that come with better warranties and support designed around hardware that will be run full bore 24/7 for stuff like this.

Miners ignore them because to them the warranties aren't worth it and they see consumer grade hardware as cheap and disposable even at 3-4x the price it should be.

All currency is fiat currency. Precious metals and land can actually be rendered worthless by a far wider range of things like the discovery of a new source, natural disasters, and intentional manipulation all of which fiat currency is more robust against. Major economic collapses have been more rare since we abandoned gold.

Imagine for a second that we switched back to gold, and then Elon Musk announced a find of a new source of it in an asteroid amounting to ten or even a hundred times the total world's current supply. May be science fiction, but similar things happened all the time in the 19th century.

>>
>1050s, 560s in stock for their MSRPs
>580s, 1060s, 570s, and 1070s all out of stock or way too much

You know I've been expecting this kind of split in the market with the middle collapsing and there only being really high-priced stuff and really low-end stuff for a while now but actually seeing it happen is depressing. Especially when I'm still running a first-gen GCN card and had been planning to upgrade to Polaris or Vega this summer.

Hopefully miners don't decide to snatch up all the Ryzen+Vega SOCs, that might be what I wind up doing if AMD follows through on their promise of a SOC with HBM and performance similar to the 570.

All the other cards are climbing up little by little. With the major cards sold out, the lesser cards are increasing in demand because of people unable to buy other things. And up the price goes.

This whole meme is fucking the GPU market from top to bottom and back to the top again.

I was reading an issue of PC Gamer on the shitter earlier, and they were doing benchmarks with AMD and Nvidia cards. AMD is just ... so bad. Ugh. Like, all their Crossfire setups actually *decrease* the performance of a system when compared to using just a single card of the exact same kind. Like, what the fuck? There's no way I'd touch anything from AMD. I still have memories of using their PCUs 2 decades ago and the idle temps being 60c, just staring at the windows desktop. It was madness. And their design hasn't gotten any better.

AMD's official drivers on Windows are terrible. The drivers on GNU/Linux which is what people use to mine are partially open and a lot better.
Plus there's the independently produced open source drivers which are just mopping the floor with AMD's internal driver team.

This is the kind of improvement that AMD's Linux drivers have seen over the last few years and its been happening practically every six months.

Vega is HBM and apparently HBM is much less effective/efficient than GDDR5 at mining. It comes out in a few weeks, so hopefully it helps fix things sooner.
>>
>>381827991
Yeah, there will be Vega cards with HBM that replace the Fury cards at the top of AMD's range.

They're also supposed to release SoC chips that have 4 Ryzen CPU cores (single CCX) and a Vega GPU with HBM which could possibly be a very interesting upgrade for my current system, especially if the market for discrete graphics cards is still fucked.
