in PS2 era most games were 4.5-7 GB because that was the max for DVDs

in the previous generation most games were 8GB because the better selling console used 8.5 dual layer DVDs (the xbox 360)
This generation the Blue Ray is very popular and the max it holds is 50GB so devs just fill it up.
