I eventually came around to loving my PS2 as well as any other system, but that first year was rough. It wasn't until CVS2 that my PS2 got a good workout.

Not a lot of masterpieces, but I appreciate that the gameplay of AAA titles was infinitely more diverse than in latter gens with its Ubisoft clones.

Hardly. The GC didn't possess a lot of exclusives in contrast to the other consoles in that generation. The only games worthwhile on the GC are Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime and Melee.

If you're wondering why I didn't include Mario Sunshine in that small list is because SM64 is superior in comparison as the definitive 3D Mario game.

XBox had best multiplats and underrated exclusives.
GCN had best exclusives.
PS2 had sheer bulk, so there were more good games and good exclusives even if the rest had a better quality ratio.
All three were great and this was literally the best console generation of all time.

I consider it to be a 5.5th gen console, not only for its launch time but also and moreover because while it may have had 6th-gen hardware, its library still had the sensibilities of a 5th gen system; bright, colorful, cartoonish, and just plain fun games like Power Stone, Jet Set Radio, MvC1 and 2, Space Channel 5, etc. were the norm for it rather than the typically gritty, dim, realistic, and "tough" 2000s aesthetic games of the PS2, Xbox, and even GameCube.

Not to mention that the DC was the last arcade-minded system, while after the PS2 launched and became huge we were in an essentially post-arcade world.

I brought the Dreamcast and PS2 on their launch dates and love them both, listening to soundtracks from most the games even the ones I never liked are very nostalgic. I didn't get the Gamecube until it's very late stage so I miss the party and I didn't get experience it's magic to it's full extent but the games are still amazing and memorable. I never owned a Xbox but played a little of it in either a friend's or relative's house, I wasn't too big on it.
