As someone who's played Guild Wars 2 for a very long time, I'll tell you my person gripes with the game. Leveling was the best part of the game, but then they made a ton of changes which made no sense. Tons of stuff like ability slots and that are locked before you reach a certain level. Considering that most classes have 13 keys to press at most, it's really glaring when you can only use three abilities before you hit level 30.

When you reach the endgame, you will find there isn't much to do. PvE is either doing boring raids, running dungeons with full damage gear or doing the same five fractals over and over again for gear that is only marginally better than the gear you had previously. WvW is a mode which had potential, but has been neglected by the devs.

PvP is the single biggest clusterfuck I've ever seen. Guild Wars 2 is a horrible competitive game because the inherent design of the game. There's little way to keep track of what is actually happening because a billion particle effects and aoe circles will pop up at once. On top of that, most classes have little to no resource management, so it mostly boils down to spamming your cooldowns as fast as possible. Players which play tanky builds can basically be impossible to kill because they never run out of steam. I remember one game where there was a guy which took three people to kill. When you only have a team of five on an objective based game, the only way to win a fight with him is just to avoid him completely. Most classes only have one viable build too, mostly due to the developers adding elite classes in the new expansion which outclass base classes in every way imaginable.

The story is one of the most retarded I have ever seen in any video game and the Sylvari are one of the cringiest fantasy races in existence.

The gameplay is still far superior than MMO's ever will be. Even if you don't like MOBAs, it's still more rewarding to play than WoW PVP.

You forgot to mention that running raids in GW2 has no rewards either. In other MMOs you run raids for loot, you kill a boss and it drops a bunch of gear or items that people usually want because it's the best gear in the game at that time. GW2 doesn't even have that, raids don't drop any actual loot, it just drops garbage you don't even need or care about, along with like 5g tops (which is literally nothing in GW2 market, pennies at best).

There is no reason to do anything in GW2 from a progression stand point, you don't progress anything once you're max level, you get exotic/ascended gear and you're done for life.

There's no really good MMOs at the moment, and I say that playing MMOs more then any other genre at the moment. I've always like time sink games, where I Can just zone out, chill, and play. FFXIV is the one I like the most right now, but it has a lot to dislike, and its not like it does anything new that changes the formula up. I've always like FF so it obviously caters to me to a degree. Started playing ESO recently with a friend too, and I'm mixed on it. I like the character customization, building a character's skills seem pretty cool, but theres just something kinda off about the game, combat feels a bit wonky at times.

TERA had the most potential by far, the combat was fun as fuck and a lot of the design was 10/10. However, a many of the other aspects were super half assed or rushed, and the game was very poorly optimized (see: the Nexus, no matter how good your computer was the game turned into a slideshow).

RO had a 2 week trial thing, I remember playing two months as different classes with the 2 week trials, and eventually found Pservers.

My first taste of the WoW formula was other Asian MMOs. ToS fills the niche I want in the market, I'm not into WoW style games, Tera got boring, Aion got boring, GW2 was a huge disappointment compared to GW and I disliked eveything about Wildstar and Rift.
If you are judging it by launch, in just a year its gotten a lot better.

Warhammer MMO was fucking horrible.

-Should have been 40k.
-They knew the engine was shit before retail release and did nothing.
-Worst class balancing in an online game ever. Certain classes where like playing god mode while others where completely useless tickling other players in pvp.
-Completely ignored the community.
-3/4 of the game was scrapped with promised to add it later that never happened.
-So much effort wasted on group quests when every single one of them was impossible to complete after the majority of players made max level.

I know ToS has gotten better in the technical sense, but its got no direction and no endgame content to speak of. It took them ages just to make grinding feel better, and they're still too reliant on fetch quests scattered through the zones in a streamlined manner. They're still punishing people extremely to the point where its not worth playing without being subbed, and still has hassles for trading while subbed. This is the only game I have ever seen that limits how much you can trade to people. Plus there being so many classes (mistake) that theres never going to be balance.

Leveling is good, PvP for beginners is good enough, world and profesions is decent. The game just feels mediocre and personally I just play it for the PvP, as I play a mesmer and is pretty fun, not like GW1 obv. but the combat for PvP is the only thing that kept me playing for a long time. This is honestly fine with me. PvE content ends when you've farmed up the strongest boss(es) and gotten the best gear possible. PvP content never actually ends and can potential expand into so much more, even if not all of it is ideal.
EVE is a prime example of that, being almost entirely PvP.
And I prefer the idea of Crowfall over say Chronicles of Elyria for 2 major reasons:
1. CoE is trying way too hard to make it as unfun to be bad as possible.

I liked the class split every class had, i.e. Warrior split into either templar or gladiator at level 10 or whatever, and the flight and combat was pretty great too

Like look at me: I wanted to raid in WoW, Play Morrowind, and raid in Stormblood. Now I don't have a choice. I have friends in XIV counting on me. So now I'll only buy to SB, will only sub to XIV, and definitely won't buy Morrowind or resub to WoW. This wouldn't have been a problem if Morrowind came out in October or Tomb of Sargeras opened earlier.

Now only one game gets my time/money instead of three.

You joke but when MMOs were new they were such a novelty that even the most unknown ones over 100k+ players and other genres had non-functioning online. Half the point of an MMO is to be in another world with a huge population.

But now there are better games. If you want sandbox and open PVP your best bets are games like Rust or Minecraft. You can even play those games without subs or microtransations. People who still believe they're going get that magical rebirth of Ultima Online/Anarchy Online/SWG are deluded. And I both of those half of them are people who are following due to meme magic and would hate and drop such a game if they ever got it.

I'm currently playing ESO, and enjoying it. Which is pretty strange, cause I hated it during beta. Morrowind while way too expensive, have some pretty neat stuff too.
