People don't still care about Pokemon because it's an amazing series, they care because a large portion of them got hooked at a young age. It's similar to Kingdom Hearts, in that way. Most KH fans got into it when they're younger, and things like that tend to stick. They may not be uninterrupted fans, but it's a good bet it's the kind of series that will draw attention from people again when it pops up because of the Nostalgia factor. Xemnas is the best bossfight from a thematic and grandiose perspective. Lingering Will is the best boss fight of the series gameplay and balance wise. I mean compare the two. In the Xemnas fight your're throwing buildings at each other, flying around a black void, killing a huge dragon thing, moving extremely fast with those reaction commands, and xemnas is teleporting all over the place shooting you with lasers. It's flashy as fuck, but also pretty simple and easy. In the lingering will fight, you're just fighting a guy who can turn his keyblade into different weapons and teleport. The flashiest thing LW does is the ultima cannon, which is just a big energy ball and his desperation attack. However he requires mastery of all the gameplay mechanics, dodging abilities, and abilities to beat consistently, at least on critical.

The VA is Kyusaku Shimada, who is the movie/television actor they got to do the Hades roll in the Disney Hercules movie dub over there. It's highly likely the attempt to match James Wood's mannerisms is intentional and he either practiced it or was chosen for his ability to do it for the movie role. Then they called him up again for the games.

It's interesting, because it ends up going counter to a lot of how typical VA work goes in Japan, where range doesn't really matter so much as a single recognizable voice that can be marketed. He is a live action actor, not a seiyuu, after all as well.
