So, bard, for non-weaboos

It really depends on the game but I usually go warrior.

Typically a mix of warrior and mage. If the game lets me run around with a sword and board, heavy armor, healing spells, and some utility spells (slow fall, minor enchantment, etc), then I go for that. So stuff like Battlemages and Paladins are my go to.

If I had to pick from those three though, probably just warrior. I'm always one for more survivability as opposed to damage/stealth.

In most games spells are a resource. They're going to have a cooldown, cost mana, your only going to be able to know a limited amount. Games that don't do this usually have shitty utility magic.
You use magic to cover your weaknesses or as a compliment to what you're already doing.
If you're using magic for things that you can already do then that's your own fault

Bards in D&D and other stuff like that are more characterized at this point with having a jack of all trades character that dabbles in various forms of magic and intertwines them with a solid combat ability, not outshining anyone in their niche but being a good compliment, as well as being a great Charismancer type.

Generally speaking, you don't have to be a "singing faggot" as a bard. Perform doesn't even necessitate you playing an instrument or anything. You can be giving speeches that bolster everyone's valor before the battle; your bardic song may very well be just pic related, or a warsong of sorts. So it's all just about how you interpret a class and what kinda class fantasy you're looking for.

Nah, it just gets boring preparing for every encounter, when if I were playing a warrior, I could just charge in like a retard, and get the whole thing done in half the time, with far less effort. Most of the time, I'll play a Battlemage class if it's available, that way I can throw a fireball or two while charging in like a retard, then heal myself back up after I'm done taking an axe to the face.

I remember a flash game where you played a mage that had a bow and arrow instead. Mixing two classes I'm okay with but mixing all three is just trash you may as well play Fable.
Plus jack of all trades classes usually miss out on the more interesting and strategic playstyles of a single or dual class. Plus is sucks from an immersion perspective because it lacks class identity. Rogues are sly jews, wizards are intelligent but eccentric and warriors are agressive and headstrong. Jack of all trades characters are either mary sue tier (see fable) or just really uninteresting.

This isn't a tabletop game. It's a video game. I've got visuals, I've got sounds, I've got screenshake, slow motion, the earth fucking quaking as a giant fucking hammer destroys the fucking ground with the person between the head and the floor fucking pancaking. Geomancers at a basic level use divination spells for cartographic knowledge. More of an utility class. At intermediate levels they can use the raw mana inherent in the land to cast unique spells, and maybe some transmutation as well. At master levels, you are looking at kuldun sorcery, i.e. binding the spirits of the land to do your bidding.

Elementalists are innate sorcerers who cast fireballs and sheyt. They usually chose to focus on one or two elements for a more personal connection with their craft. At master levels they can absorb damage and even break immunities from their chosen source.

Warrior because its no nonsense class that gets shit done. Protects their party and rips the enemy apart. Is naturally the leader. Has the best looking armor. Actually wears real armor. Doesn't rely on cheap tricks to win has to get right in the thick of it. Its a do or die life for warriors and its by far the most fun and rewarding class to play.

Thief is the cuck class. Has to stealth to run away because they'd lose in a straight up fight. Only thing they're good for is picking locks and pockets. Which is just as good as being a nigger.

Mages are just faggots. Useless class on their own until they get overpowered throwing meteors from across the universe and making up shit to one up everyone to make up for their small dick. Boring shit class from start to finish.

Really depends on the game. In most RPGs one of the three classes is much more fun than the others. If there isn't a sngle class that's superior to the others I go either for a Warrior/Thief hybrid or a pure mage.

Mages kinda have an upside down bell curve for power level. Amazing when they get their first couple spells, a bit underwhelming midway through, and absolute gods when nearing endgame.
Honestly I think it comes down to mobility.
Their defense is ass, but early on monsters aren't terribly fast or aggressive so just having range is more than enough.
Halfway through they start getting quick and jumpy, but you don't have access to the flying, bullshit huge AoE/homing spells, or long and fast grapple hooks that come at endgame.
Once you gear an endgame mage out properly they can do hilarious damage if you're good at moving or be kitted out for bullshit amounts of lifesteal to be able to survive boss fights if you're bad like me.

Honestly just throwing this one in because I started dabbling with it recently and the pattern held once again.
It turns out a party of four beam mages breaks the game (especially if they're all player controlled) since they can easily chain time stops on enemies to hilarious effect.
Even though they're significantly out-damaged by hammers in real time, the fact they not only freeze the enemy but also the timer on the mission allows them to get platinum medals stupid easily.

If it's "mages can blow someone's head off from a few meters away" tier then that's easy enough to apply restrictions on e.g. casting time, magical preparation, cast-from-HP, etc. to create windows where non-mages can excel.
If it's "mages can sink an entire continent underwater" tier then you're pretty much required to introduce some supernatural power-level bullshittery (I live because I have will-power, it was all according to my plan, etc.) for non-mages to keep up.

i naturally play thieves but i often try to play mages because spells often seem like they're the most varied way to fight. from time to time i've picked a warrior saying to myself ' i just want to charge in and bash away' but i usually reroll a thief after i remember that warriors are boring,

Also the "fa/tg/uy" paladin, which is the original, has many defensive spells, but also smites and buff and shit. It's not "holy protector with sword", it's not "PURGE ELVES" either. The relatives whole class is usually surrounding oaths to an idea, be it religious or personal, and ideas surrounding it. They generally have burst melee design, with smites to "massive damage" in bursts, along with buffs and auras as you said.
