Jagex said fuck it, broke their constitution, and just shoved the event in anyway. So people are reasonably pissed off.

I don't think you get how hard it is to add content in OSRS. There is about 15-20% of the OSRS community that no votes everything, even legitimate improvements that do zero harm to the game, its economy, its UI, how they play and so on. Not for it being controversial, but just because they want NOTHING new in OSRS, and have it remain as close as possible to how it is currently forever (which is a semi reasonable stance to take with the history of other mmos).
If you can't pass a new well developed skill like sailing or artisan which is half completed at the time of the vote, and if you can only get a brand new runescape continent with level 80+ activities and items (content that runescape was severely lacking back in 07), passed by a single %, then why the fuck do you think a gay pride event, which is actually controversial, would pass?

It's mostly because not a lot of people like OSRS anymore.
I probably would have posted in the threads if I knew this was a thing. I used to like the OSRS team before this, specifically because of the OSRS constitution.
