GTA IV is the best in series. The RAGE engine is so much fun to play with and the game is filled with so many small details that makes the open world fun. The driving is bizarre but can be mastered and the damage models on the cars make up for it. If you think the game is too serious/edgy you either didn't play the game or are retarded.

I really dislike Alans Wake and Max Payne 3 and generally think that both Rockstar and Remedy are two insanely overrated studios, both of which share pretty much the same fundamental flaws.
I do think that while they might be scum and an awful, awful as a developer, as a publisher Bethesda is still one of the better companies out there.

Also, I think anyone who claims that gameplay is all that matters in videogames is an idiot who literally does not even understand the words he is using. Not that he is wrong: I claim that people who say this don't actually use the words correctly in any way.
But that is not really all that contrarian these days.

I will say that alan wake has an interesting story and good atmosphere. The gameplay is bad.

Max payne 3 had cool gameplay and art direction, but boring story and lost a lot of its style (plus fucking broken cutscenes load).

Gameplay isnt the only thing that matters but i think is the most important. Also good gameplay =/= deep and complex gameplay. To define what is good gameplay is impossible, as it depends on what the game want to accomplish.

Well, since this is a "look at my controversial opinions", I kinda did not assume anyone would really care.

But OK. My list of issues with MP3 would be pretty extensive, but in brief summary:
The game is insanely poorly balanced. The amount of exposition vs. action is just completely off and insanely obnoxious. The action in the first half of the game is interrupted almost constantly.
The story is horrible. Outside of being a cheap, literal knock-off of Man on Fire, its just worse in every way. I was never particularly fan of Max games, but I at least appreciated the character. Here, they turned him into an insufferable asshole with poor motivations. The whole OBSESSION with the game looking like a movie is annoying me to no end. This is one of the most desperately "cinematic" games I've ever seen and it really clashes with the actual gameplay.
It's dull and a lot of the visual tricks also just harm the gameplay. Poor visual indication of enemy dying being my particular issue. Also: last stand... WHAT THE FUCK?! Did NO ONE PLAY TEST THIS SHIT?!

The first final fantasy is the only one worth playing. Everything else is shit.

I fall asleep playing Breath of the Wild. It induces a kind of narcolepsy that previously only Fable 3 could provide.

I loved Horizon: Zero Dawn. The combat was fun and exhilarating with lots of options. Control felt really good. I love the characters and the story.

Any Xbox exclusive has been shitty (Gears, Halo, Crackdown, Dead Rising) and have only helped to the casualization of video games, fuck the Xbox brand in general, actually.

All the Witcher (Yes, including 3) games and most of the Elder Scrolls games fucking suck, janky, bug filled, shit combat, boring stories with shitty characters and content wise they aren't that much better than your average Ubishit fetch quest galore we see in every Assassin's Creed, for example.

Hack n' Slash games are overrated and are mostly easier version of fighting games with no competition what so ever, their main appeal should be the over the top animations and nothing else.

The way Nintendo makes consoles today should be the standards, although hardware wise they are shit at least they offer something new, the PS4 and Xbone are basically overpriced PCs, at least I can take my Switch anywhere I want.

Overwatch, Paladins and Battleborn are pretty much the same fucking game but with a different coat of paint, the fact that ANYONE that plays either laughs at any of the other games' playerbase proofs that anyone playing them are absolute morons with no taste in videogames.

Daggerfall may have more content, but very much in the same sense No Man's Land has a lot of content: it is there, but it's largely meaningless. What it lacks is a good world, strong art direction, writing outside of books, interesting characters: anything that would make it more substantial, memorable and really worth the trouble. Two thirds of the game are spend crawling through awful proceduraly generated dull nonsensical dungeons where the generation can screw you over and that drag on for EVER, killing incredibly generic enemies and clearing out generic environments.
It's also insanely littered with bugs, balance issues, the generated content is just pure garbage, and in the end it actually does not live up to many other similar dungeon-crawling RPG's of it's time. It was too ambitious, suffered from feature creep and quantity over quality syndrome. It's an interesting piece of history and the books helped to establish the lore which would eventually be the only valuable part of the franchise: but the actual gameplay did not allow you to experience it. It was a dull game in which you occasionally read about something interesting in a book. In this sense, it was not unlike Oblivion.

Except every single one of them makes sense and has some story behind it and actual logic to the layout. You explore actual PLACES in Morrowind. Even if they share asset sets, they are actual places. Elder scrolls online is a good game

Dark Souls 1 is not a good game, and certainly isn't as good as Dark Souls 2 or 3.

The MGS trilogy suffers from the Childhood Anime Effect or CAE. CAE refers to an anime you watched in the late 90s/early 2000s like Yugioh, Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho to where it is part of someone's childhood and meant a lot to them growing up. Unironically I disliked OoT as a kid after coming in from LoZ/ALttP. I replayed it recently and dislike it even more. SS isn't nearly as bad as people claim: the dungeon design is on par with WW (TP dungeons a best), I never had an issue with the motion controls, and I liked the swordplay better than mindlessly pushing B or Y. It's got flaws but it's far from the worst Zelda game I've played. I wasn't even annoyed by the Tadtones after I figured that spindashing attracted them.
