I didn't say its a dark souls rip because of dudes wearing armor, it's because the combat seemed somewhat slow and the mimics are incredibly similar to the ones in DS
Also at these particular times it's very highly likely that any game is going to look like DS, it was an extremely successful series and any successful project/bomb is bound to be followed by a wave of copycats.

Dragon's Dogma's mimic gave me a boner, so I'd so those work.

The abundance of mimics in Dark Souls 3 is easilty tied to the lore. Patches says to us, that greed is the only universal human trait. Mimics are products of greed. The world is dying, and greed was greatly increased.
Also it's the reason why Profaned Capital is full of mimics - by the lots of golden items in this area you can see that this is the city of greed.
