I'm still not sure this is actually the case because even in Japan with their unrelentingly godawful taste in just about everything it still rallied considerably. I mean it sold through 89% of it's initial stock and then went on to essentially double that over the rest of 2016. Of course by that point people had stopped giving a shit about it's sales.

We also don't really know it's digital sales on PSN which it got the biggest push on for a Tales game to date and you saw the transition between PS4 and PS3 this time with this game by far selling more of the PS4 version versus the PS3 one whereas it was the opposite for Zestiria. Considering the butthurt fallout from Zestiria and how that game had way less of a tale than Berseria did because of it I was honestly expecting a lot worse and it's not nearly as bad as some people think.

It's not really all of Zestiria that's popular, but very specific things, those specific things being Sorey Mikleo and Edna, and the idea of armatus. Even when all of the high profile manufactured bullshit hit Zestiria those three characters remained relatively free of any of the drama.

IT also probably helped that 2 out of 3 of Zestiria's adaptations were all high profile and also better than the game they came from. But because they were also faithful adaptations you couldn't just apply its decency to those specific retellings. it helped to cull a lot of the initial negative reaction to Zestiria.

However, because Westerns really don't have access to these things, the fact that the hate was dying down or maybe even wasn't as big as the screeching otaku on the internet lead people to believe.

Will Milla and Velvet get along? I have a hard time choosing who is better.

I've played through pretty much the whole franchise, excluding 1 or 2 of the Japanese only PS2 ones and some of the spin offs. Yet I still loved Berseria a lot, its just a good game. But it is certainly possible that Zestiria and Berseria that got more attention because of their availability, and being the newest main titles. But Berseria is legitimately a decent RPG, could also be because a lot of already fans spread the love to non fans.

I played Symphonia twice (original GC + emulated), Berseria (PC) and Vesperia (360). Berseria's my current favourite.
Symphonia is pure nostalgia, I don't think it's that good but I love it.
Vesperia had the best fight system but I can't remember a single thing from the story. Aside that Karol was a little shit.
Berseria has a flawed combat system and boring overworld/dungeons but man, the characters were just so good I can't get it out of my head.
