The only one I've ever played was MvC2 on the dreamcast and I simply never bothered to give these games a second chance because they all look like unispired pieces of shit with crappy 3D models, boring UI and boring music.

MvC2 was fucking amazing in all of those aspects and the THICC god-tier 2D sprites. Also 90% of Marvel is boring, the other 10% being the X-men which of course are absent. I also feel like MvC2 had more literally-who characters that made the roster more interesting.

The ONLY thing I care about this one is the Monster Hunter fighter. But the 3D models, the shaders they use, the UI, the music and the whole Marvel side remove all interest I had in the game. I did like Venom in MvC2 but he's paid DLC in this one and I'm 100% sure the model and animations will be shit by comparison.

Then again I'm not a fighting game fan in the first place. But if any MvC ever reached MvC2's heights again I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

People are (rightfully) giving MvCI shit for recycling assets but MvC2 did the same thing, for better or worse. So many of the sprites in it were pulled from or repurposed from earlier games.

Still a lot people really liked Firebrand in the end, he was one of the most versatile characters in competitive matches, probably since Marvel didn't wanted to add Wolverine this time Capcom though it would be a good move to keep him.

There was a recent TvC event hosted by capcom and tatsunoko where they took a poll asking people who they wanted to see in the next game.

In the end, the roster is pretty good and varied. Firebrand, Arthur and Nemesis are really fresh, and would benefit the most from the stone mechanic.
But it's lazy. If they planned on doing a roster this small, it should have way more new characters. Instead they decided to reuse assets, which could easily bring the roster to at least 36, but kept the number.
It shows they learned nothing from SFV. I didn't mind Sigma as dlc, but I though the roster would be on the same level as Sigma's inclusion.

Seriously. Not gonna lie, Capcom characters always felt like guest fighters in the MvC series. Largely because they don't all come from a large shared universe that regulary crossed over and nearly everyone knows of each other. Many of them come from incompatible time periods and fantasy worlds.(MvC:I "story mode" is gonna suck because of this) It really limits the whole "win quotes reference other characters/events" which is a major part of crossover games appeal.

I honestly can't think of any memorable pre battle or win quotes from capcom characters to other capcom characters in MvC3, and I'm a hell of alot more familiar with those characters than I am Marvel characters.

I really don't know but probably one of the biggest reasons is Marvel not wanting to add xmen and F4 characters so Capcom can't port then from UMvC3, also keeping in mind that they need the same number of characters so in the end Capcom needed to resort in cutting characters from their old roster as well.

Also probably since they're rushing the shit out of this game for a release in just couple of months, so they can't have that many new characters ready until then, same reason why probably they reused a lot of Capcom characters from the last game.

There are zero legal obstacles here. This is 100% Marvel fucking their own property over because they didn't want to sell what could potentially be free advertisement for movies that weren't theirs.
Only they completely failed to look at the fact that those movies would also in turn be promoting their stuff - and that that effect would likely be stronger than the other way around.
Basically it all started with spite and then as people tried to work without the X-Men and people didn't like it, Pride came into the mixture as creators and managers tried to prove to themselves and anyone that they could make this idea of substituting one of their biggest franchise work somehow. Finally when that failed, because of that pride they were just too obstinate to really stop what they had begun. And thus we had a half-baked X-Men push in comics, X-Men characters as DLC in games, but not in games, Fox being allowed television rights, but Marvel still not making a new cartoon (which is probably a good thing right now, but still)...

Bottom line is, Marvel Comics/Entertainment is a shitty company run by idiots.

It will sell because it's the sort of game Marvel wants to sell, to compete with Injustice directly as their flagship video game. It's chock-full of MCU stuff because that's all their intended audience wants/knows.

TvC had a small roster, but it was diverse. You had your Mega Man, your Street Fighter, then you got a fucking Onimusha rep, a Rival Schools rep, a rep from an obscure Quiz game, Frank West before Dead Rising got huge, a Lost Planet rep, Viewtiful Joe, and not to mention, one of the Street Fighter reps was from SFIII.
