fuck that dumpster fire, literally refunded my kraken after 6 days thanks to that piece of shit.
>>
>>378695160
what happened? D:
>>
>>378695512
cam literally forgets you have a kraken installed on boot up and the damn thing needs cam to actually function. i had to reinstall it like 5 times a week. went to the support site and it turns out this has been an issue for six months. also the program literally datamines your machine for hardware info 24/7 even in "guest mode" and sends it to nzxt. i noped the fuck out of it and sent it back to amazon and just got a cryorig h7 instead.
>>
>>378696347
aw sorry to hear </3, what other program can I use to track temps and fps during games tho? Cam was the only one I found that could do that :c
>>
>>378696970
MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision tool, and I think ASUS has some kind of tool of their own too.

Steam has an integrated FPS counter too.
>>
>>378697131
Yes, FPS counters are not hard to find, most of the time I use the Steam one since is small and doesnt bother too much but I started using Cam because it could give me temperatures in the overlay during games like The Witcher 2 and 3, where the GPU gets pretty hot like 55C and I wanted to know when to stop playing before it gets higher :c I can't risk this computer because I can't get another one
>>
>>378697435
>the GPU gets pretty hot like 55C
u wot m8

those are perfectly fine temps on load

you should start worrying if you go over 85c on load.

for idle it can be okay too at those temps depending on your power settings in nvidia control panel

Ive been thinking about overclocking but Im scared of fucking something up, specially because Im extremely stupid and clumsy and I can't get a new GPU if I lose this one ;-; what do you guys think? To play Nier: Automata I had to put everything on lowest to get stable 60fps most of the time, but I understand it's a bad port, most newer games don't run that bad but still ;c
>>
>>378698579
run nier in windowed mode and use borderless gaming. a gpu idling in the 20s and loading in the 50s or even 60s is perfectly fine, no need to worry unless your gpu approaches high 80s.

I honestly don't know. When I first built my comuter two years ago I was under the heavy impression that different power boxes put out different volts, and you needed to buy the "right" one for the collection of parts you had. If you got better parts you'd need to upgrade your power for more volts and a stronger current to power it all.

I think I'm just retarded and should just go out, buy a new motherboard, and a new CPU and then just slap it in.

500w is the upper bound for your system where i would start to feel like i needed more for potential upgrades. not to say that 500w isn't enough, but it's good to have a buffer.

usually i go for 750 just to have the headroom
>>
>>378702881
For your current build where the maximum load is 380w? yes.
And what you call "power" its called "PSU", Power supply unit.

If you upgrade your GPU you might need a better one, otherwise its good enough.
But for most mid end GPUs this days you wont since they are 125w or less.
>>
>>378703212
>>378703208
Wow, that's very helpful. How did you get the 380w of my current loadout? It would be nice to know.

I don't plan on really upgrading my GPU, only my CPU. So I assume getting a new motherboard and CPU would still keep me under 500w but I'll look into getting a 750w at least as well.

Look at this anon for example:

Unless the game you are playing is maxed by it upgrading your CPU wont give you better performance.
Your current GPU is a low end card from the last generation and the games you wanna play are intensive for it, that is why you barely met those requirements.

CPUs barely change between generations(Specially intel CPUs), GPUs do a lot.

CPU is really important for gaming, but you have already a high end one.

If you wanted to upgrade your CPU you have to:
Buy a new motherboard, a new CPU, and new RAM.
Which would be around $600 in total ($250 for last gen I5, $100 for 8GB DDR4 RAM, $150 for Z270 motherboard).

Against a new Mid-high end CPU which is $200-250 which will make a huge difference when it comes to games.

I7s are mostly useless for gaming since barely games use hypertreading which is the main difference between i5's and i7's.
This thread for example, you dont see anyone with a I7 do you?

There is no GTX 1060 8GB, only 6GB and 3GB, avoid the 3GB version since its a weaker version.
RX 580 is a option too but i doubt you will find it for cheap in canada, both cards are just as powerful, they are the same.

Never listen to what the recommended specs are. They're generally way over what you would need to run the game well because instead of testing multiple configurations to find what runs the game nicely it's easier for devs to just put down whatever the latest and greatest hardware is.
>>

Those temperatures arent normal at all then.
There is something wrong with your heatsink and at this rate it is going to get damaged without overclocking.

Got a non-k i7 7700, my build is currently in a silverstone ML08 case, waiting on my zaber sentry case to ship and will be moving it into that case once I receive it. I probably would have gotten the 7700k if I knew about the coming cryorig c7 cooler made of all copper, that could probably cool an OC'ed CPU while still keeping low profile (zaber sentry has 48mm height restriction for CPU cooler), but the non k is fine for now, using a regular C7 with a noctua slim 92mm fan mounted to it now.

Any recs on how to proceed? I want to maximize power efficiency and silence.

The XFX card that I'm running at the moment sounds like a jet engine when I'm playing anything more demanding than Minecraft, so I'm planning to change that out, though my current finances will require me to wait until it wears out. In the future, I will probably attempt to streamline my storage as well, swapping out the SSD for an M2 and recycling it in my laptop.
>>
>>378709250
It's pretty great. For $60 there's really no beating it.

The only game I haven't been able to run at 60 is Forza Horizon 3 but that game is optimized like shit. I can run it locked at 30 at 1440p Medium which is fine by me since I play on a 4k tv.

Combined with a SSD it's really great. I forgot to add that I have a 120 m.2 in the computer for my OS and a few games like PUBG and LOL

The dual 680s is actually an odd story too.
The outputs on one broke during a robbery and evga ended up just sending me another one with a pretty minimal RMA process, but without the return.
It functions in SLI, but both of its DVIs are fucked.
I should probably sell one and put it towards the new card.
